Pistons Would Have $12.8M In Extra Space By Waiting On New Drummond Deal

Sep 29, 2015 1:23 PM

Andre Drummond's cap hold of $8.2 million for the 2016 offseason may mean he doesn't get an extension with the Detroit Pistons before the Oct. 31st deadline.

The Pistons would like to keep Drummond long-term, but signing him to an extension now would compromise their cap space for next summer.

"Everybody comes to a point in time in their career when they are going to deal with contract situations, and it's better that I keep it as a personal thing and just focus on what I can control right now, which is making my team better," Drummond said.

Drummond will make about $21 million in 16-17 regardless whether he signs now or in July 2016, except if he signs the extension now, that entire amount applies to the Pistons' cap when free agency opens next summer.

The San Antonio Spurs waited to extend Kawhi Leonard and they were able to sign LaMarcus Aldridge and re-sign Danny Green with that flexibility.

Reggie Jackson Ready To Prove He's Worth $80M Contract

Sep 29, 2015 11:10 AM

Reggie Jackson re-signed with the Detroit Pistons this offseason on a five-year, $80 million contract.

Jackson is embracing the pressure that comes with those type of expectations.

"Always," Jackson said Monday during Pistons media day at The Palace of Auburn Hills. "I've got to live up to trying to win a championship. Money is money. I worked just as hard when people said I didn't have as much, and I'm going to work just as hard after."

Jackson wants to get better now that he has the chance to be a full time starter.

"I want to be the best," he said. "And that's my approach, each and every day. That's what wakes me up and that's what drives me. If I'm not the best or my peers aren't telling me I'm the best, I've got to continue to go and earn that kind of respect.

"Somebody's the best, so I have to go try and prove it."

Sep 28, 2015 12:55 PM

Brandon Jennings has been cleared by doctors to continue a steady progression of basketball related rehabilitation activities geared towards a return to the basketball court. That progression will consist of strength work, conditioning and cardiovascular exercises, basketball related activities and finally a return to team practices and full-contact related drills.

No timetable has been established for his return and we will continue to provide updates as appropriate.

Jennings suffered a ruptured left Achilles tendon during the January 24 contest at Milwaukee and missed the remainder of last season.

Brandon Jennings 'Not Close' To Being Cleared For Return

Sep 21, 2015 1:43 PM

Brandon Jennings is working back from his Achilles injury, but he is "not close" to being cleared.

Jennings is currently shooting and running on a treadmill at 60 percent of his body weight, but the Detroit Pistons need to be able to see him run, cut and shoot off of one leg before he's cleared to even begin non-contact drills on court.

The Detroit Pistons also re-signed Reggie Jackson this offseason.
