Stan Van Gundy: Andre Drummond Needs 'Sense Of Urgency To Elevate His Game'

Apr 15, 2017 7:10 PM

Stan Van Gundy spoke candidly about the career trajectory of Andre Drummond.

Drummond just completed Year 1 of a five-year, $130 million contract with the Detroit Pistons.

"I think that he needs to have a sense of urgency to elevate his game," said Van Gundy. "He's been in the league five years now. He's still young. He hasn't turned 24. So he's got time. He's a very talented guy. He's been one of the elite rebounders in the league. He's got some great things to work with, but there's more there. The sky is the limit for him."

The Pistons finished 37-45 with Drummond and Reggie Jackson having down seasons.

Nets To Again Pursue RFAs With Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Otto Porter Targeted

Apr 7, 2017 12:33 PM

The Brooklyn Nets are expected to pursue both Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Otto Porter in restricted free agency.

Both Caldwell-Pope and Porter will be restricted free agents this offseason.

During last year's offseason, the Nets signed both Allen Crabbe and Tyler Johnson as restricted free agents to offer sheets. The Portland Trail Blazers and Miami Heat matched the Nets' aggressive offers for both Crabbe and Johnson respectively.

Reggie Jackson Shut Down For Remainder Of Season

Apr 7, 2017 11:19 AM

The Detroit Pistons will shut Reggie Jackson down for the rest of the season. Jackson never was able to get fully back following his plasma injection to treat tendinitis in his left knee.

"He won't play these last four games," Stan Van Gundy said. "The plan was to sort of let him step away and clear his mind and go into the offseason without a bad taste in his mouth."

Jackson has been inactive the last five games.

"Reggie was struggling, and for good reason," Van Gundy said. "(There was) a lot of stuff out of his control, and it was weighing on him. We thought at that time sort of being fresh-minded would not only be good for him, but being fresh-minded would help us."

Pistons Regret Not Sitting Reggie Jackson Earlier

Apr 4, 2017 10:28 PM

The Detroit Pistons regret how they handled Reggie Jackson this season as he underwent surgery before the season and never fully regained his health.

"What we were asking him to do was step up in a pressure situation that he wasn't fully equipped to do at this point," Stan Van Gundy said.

"And that was wearing on him. He was a guy who takes it very seriously and everything else, and he wasn't able to get the attention to himself in getting himself right."

Van Gundy maintains Jackson is fully cleared and able to play after a preseason injection to treat tendinitis in his left knee.

"I think (sitting him) probably should have happened earlier, and I don't think we were real fair with him in that," Van Gundy said. "I'm happy with where we are now. If I had any regret, and I really don't, it would have been that we didn't do this earlier."
