Curry Switches Shoes For Greater Ankle Support After Consultation With Nike

Dec 31, 2011 12:03 PM

Stephen Curry went to Nike headquarters on Thursday to find a shoe to best support his oft-injured right ankle.

“I dropped an anonymous letter at Nike saying if they do make new Steph Curry shoes, I’m sure they’d be a big hit,” Curry said.

Curry, who previously wore the Nike Hyperdunks, settled on the Nike Zoom Brave V.

Curry said they are lower and wider than what he’s been wearing.

“They’re still analyzing all the data that we collected, and I changed to a different style of Nikes for (Saturday)," Curry said. "Hopefully, that will help and I think we’ve found a fit to avoid those injuries.”

Fesenko Leaning Toward Signing With Mavs

Dec 31, 2011 11:05 AM

The Dallas Mavericks are back in the mix to land free-agent center Kyrylo Fesenko after the Golden State Warriors passed on the Ukranian big man, according to sources close to the situation.

Fesenko had committed to signing with the Warriors earlier this week, but sources told ESPN.com that Golden State and Fesenko "mutually" canceled their plans to finalize a one-year deal worth just under $1.1 million, in part because Fesenko needs an additional week or two to get into game shape after September knee surgery.

Sources said Fesenko is now leaning toward accepting the Mavs' one-year minimum offer and is likely to make a decision by early next week.

Warriors Sign Fesenko

Dec 28, 2011 10:13 AM

Kyrylo Fesenko has agreed to a one-year, $1.07 million deal with Golden State.

The Warriors signed veteran big man Kwame Brown to a one-year, $7 million deal recently but are clearly concerned about their frontcourt in the oversized Western Conference.

Fesenko -- a 7-foot, 280-pound center who spent his first four seasons in Utah -- was reportedly being pursued by Dallas, Miami and Toronto.

Curry X-Ray Negative, Will Miss Game Against Knicks

Dec 27, 2011 4:16 PM

X-rays late Monday were negative on the surgically repaired right ankle of Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry, who scored 21 points in the 99-91 win against the Chicago Bulls.

But Curry will sit out Wednesday's home game against the New York Knicks, according to his agent, Lance Young, who was at Monday's game.

"They did X-Rays last night. Everything's fine. It's ok," Young said. "It's just a sprain. Nothing serious.

"With this shortened season and back-to backs, for him to be able to get four days of rest and get ready for Saturday (against the Philadelphia 76ers), he thought that (sitting out Wednesday) probably would be the right thing."

Lin was waived by the Rockets to make room to sign Samuel Dalembert.

Golden State waived Lin earlier in the offseason in order to sign DeAndre Jordan to an offer sheet.

Knicks, Warriors Interested In Jeremy Lin

Dec 27, 2011 10:04 AM

The Knicks and Warriors are interested in Jeremy Lin, according to sources.

Golden State had to release Lin in order to clear a roster spot to sign DeAndre Jordan to an offer sheet.

Houston claimed Lin, but had to release him to sign Samuel Dalembert.

The Knicks are searching for an extra point guard due to injuries to Baron Davis and Iman Shumpert.

Curry Injures Ankle Again

Dec 27, 2011 9:54 AM

Stephen Curry rolled his surgically repaired ankle in Monday's 99-91 win over the Bulls.

Curry finished with 21 points, 10 assists, seven rebounds and six steals in 42 minutes.

"I thought he was great," Jackson said. "I thought he did an outstanding job of responding to the critics, who were 100 percent right to critique him (after Sunday's game). Great players bounce back, and he certainly did that."

"I think I landed — I haven’t seen the footage — but I think I landed on Kyle Korver’s ankle or his foot and it rolled over," said Curry. "That’s more comforting to me that it wasn’t one of those planting and moving kind of injuries … but it’s still frustrating that this keeps coming up. I had this all last year so for me it’s just trying to figure out why it keeps doing that and try to get it stronger."

While Curry didn't return to the game, Mark Jackson said he was available.

"I was walking up and down the hall, keeping it loose, and the pain numbed out a little bit. I tied my shoelaces in case I needed to shoot free throws or something down the stretch, but my teammates pulled it out. A total-team-effort win tonight so I wanted to go out there and see it."

Mavericks Tender Offer To Fesenko; Raptors Trying To Clear Roster Spot

Dec 24, 2011 6:47 PM

The Mavericks still have one roster spot open and are exploring the feasibility of filling it with Kyrylo Fesenko.

Sources close to the situation told ESPN.com on Saturday that the Mavericks, even after signing local high school product Sean Williams as a third center earlier this week, have extended a one-year offer to Fesenko.

Toronto, Golden State and Miami are also pursuing Fesenko.

Sources say that the Raptors, with a full 15 players on their roster, are exploring avenues to create an open spot for Fesenko, who turned 25 on Saturday.

Jackson, Warriors Want Curry To Take On Leadership Role

Dec 24, 2011 12:45 PM

If the Warriors are to fulfill Mark Jackson's lofty promises, he says Stephen Curry has to be the most vocal player in the locker room and the most important player on the court.

"I challenged him in our first meeting to stop deferring, and he's made incredible strides," Jackson said. "I'm proud of him. He very easily could have said, 'I'm going to be who I am, I'm going to be very successful, and I'm going to make a lot of money doing it.'

"But he's listened, made the adjustments and become a better player because of it."

Curry has all of the personality traits of a leader, but, on a team full of strong personalities, he has spent his first two seasons often choosing to go along in order to get along.

"I'm still growing and learning as a player, but I understand that I'm in a leadership position," Curry said. "Hopefully, I can become the vocal leader, because I think that's important as a point guard, to be willing to shoulder that load.

"I want to be here for a while and help this organization get to another level."
