Magic, Warriors In Trade Talks Centered On Ellis

Feb 29, 2012 9:01 PM

The Magic and Warriors are in trade talks involving Monta Ellis, sources confirmed to RealGM.

No trade is imminent, but talks are ongoing say sources.

The willingness of the Warriors to deal Ellis has increased over the past few weeks. While Ellis does not have as much trade value as teammate Stephen Curry, he does represent the franchise’s best opportunity to change the status quo.

Orlando has been active in their pursuit of a scoring guard to pair with Dwight Howard in an effort to retain him.

The Warriors and Celtics had trade talks involving Rajon Rondo for Stephen Curry in December, but it was Golden State that decided not to do the deal.

Warriors Would Want More For Ellis Than Lopez

Feb 29, 2012 9:46 AM

According to sources with the Warriors, there is little to the trade rumors involving Monta Ellis going to the Nets for Brook Lopez.

Sources that spoke with Marcus Thompson said the Warriors would want more than Lopez in exchange for Ellis.

Golden State still believes they have a shot to acquire Dwight Howard.

Howard has made it clear that he is not interested in playing for the Warriors long-term.

Warriors Hope To Make Trade Before Deadline

Feb 21, 2012 5:07 PM

The Warriors are pursuing a trade prior to the March 15th deadline, according to general manager Larry Riley.

"We're working day and night and we're hopeful," Riley told NBA.com on Monday night. "But what will not happen is, we won't do something that sets us back just to do a deal. We want to find the right deal, and if we get one of those we'll do it. I don't know what the odds of it are right now."

Golden State is 12-17 and in 13th place in the Western Conference.

"I think it would have remained intense regardless of what's going on," Riley said of trade efforts, dismissing the idea that the bad start has pushed the Warriors into trade mode.

"We recognize we need to get better whatever our record is. Let's say we'd won half of those close games. We could be a .500 team. I think we'd be pushing real hard. I guess I would have to be honest with you and say that if we're 20-8, then things change. There's reason to stay the course at 20-8. But if we were a .500 team or one or two games above, I don't think it would change at all. We're wanting to get better."

Any major trade would almost certainly include Monta Ellis.

Mark Jackson Sticking With Win-Now Approach

Feb 21, 2012 10:18 AM

Mark Jackson has a win-now mentality and would rather his team continue its aim toward the postseason than play young players to get them experience.

"I have no time for that," Jackson said. "Really, the front office's job is to look toward the future. Whether it's Larry (Riley), Bob (Myers), Joe (Lacob) or anybody else, their job is to look toward the future and prepare us to be effective down the road. My job is to handle the business today.

"I let my guys know that I have no time to think about a lottery pick or anything that doesn't pertain to right now. Our goal is to be a playoff basketball team, continue to get better and put ourselves in a position to be the team that we hope to be."

The Warriors have four rookies, all of whom have played sparingly this season.

"I've never bailed out in my life, and I'm not going to start now," Jackson said. "I believe that, as a team, if you begin to preach that message, then you will never get to where you want to. Go through the process. Take some bumps and some bruises. Ultimately, you'll get to the place you want to get to, and the bumps and the bruises will have prepared you for the moment."

Warriors Owner Didn't Want To Part With Lin

Feb 16, 2012 10:36 AM

Warriors owner Joe Lacob was reluctant to cut Jeremy Lin, but relented because the team needed to clear cap space to make a play for restricted free agent center DeAndre Jordan.

"(Co-owner) Joe (Lacob) was the most reluctant," Warriors general manager Larry Riley said. "He really didn't want to do it, more than any of us. But we knew we had to. We needed a center, and we felt we had a good chance to get one."

The Warriors signed Jordan to a four-year, $43 million offer sheet, which was eventually matched by the Clippers.
