Warriors Could Still Owe $70M To Oakland For Arena

May 30, 2012 12:22 PM

Despite their impending move to San Francisco, the Warriors could still be forced to pay $70 million to Oracle Arena in Oakland.

Oakland and Alameda County spent $140 million to modernize and expand the arena in the mid-1990s under the Warriors' previous ownership.

The Warriors have been paying as much as $7.4 million annually to help pay the debt.

Under the Warriors' lease, if the team pulls out "for any reason" before the construction bonds are retired in 2026, the Warriors still owe the money.

The owners reportedly are taking the position that they only are liable for bond payments until their lease runs out in 2017.

Warriors Host Tyshawn Taylor For Workout

May 27, 2012 11:56 AM

Tyshawn Taylor worked out for the Warriors, who own the No. 30 overall pick in next month's NBA draft.

Taylor, a 6-foot-3 point guard, averaged 4.7 assists and 3.5 turnovers as a senior at Kansas.

"I like to play fast, and I think coach (Mark) Jackson likes his guards to play the same way," Taylor said. "Defense is probably my best attribute. ... I've been on winning teams since I was in high school, and most of that was because we defended."

Warriors Working On Trade With Jazz To Guarantee Retention Of Lottery Pick

May 26, 2012 4:22 PM

The Warriors are working on a trade with the Jazz to keep their first round pick regardless of what happens in the lottery, according to sources.

Golden State has a 72 percent change of keeping their pick as it is top-seven protected.

But the Warriors are interested in insuring that they keep the pick in case a team behind them jumps into the top-three.

The Warriors are prepared to give up a trade asset or two.

One source with knowledge of the discussions described the chances of a trade by Wednesday as "likely."

The Warriors can offer Utah a combination of future draft considerations, cash and/or a relaxation of the current restrictions on Utah's rights to the pick in question in either 2013 or 2014. At present, Golden State's 2013 pick is top-seven protected and its 2014 pick is top-six protected.

Mike Malone Could Be Paul's Preference If Del Negro Exits

May 26, 2012 10:58 AM

The Clippers have until June 1st to decide the fate of Vinny Del Negro.

If the Clippers decide to change directions, a source contends Chris Paul has Mike Malone on his short-list of preferred replacements.

Malone worked with Paul during one season as lead assistant of the Hornets.

Malone is widely considered to be the most respected assistant in the NBA without head coaching experience.

Malone is currently assistant coach with the Warriors, but has been linked to several other head coaching vacancies this offseason.
