Dwight Howard Wants To Make 'Basketball-Based Decision', Could Come Quickly

Jun 30, 2013 12:07 PM

Dwight Howard will meet with the Houston Rockets, Atlanta Hawks, Dallas Mavericks, Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Lakers between Sunday night and Tuesday. Howard wants a quick resolution to his free agency and a source said his decision could come before the end of the week.

"He wants to make a decision based on basketball more than anything else," one source said.

Howard has had the Rockets as his frontrunner for several weeks since they would instantly become title contenders.

The Lakers remain a possibility, but are currently considered second in order of preference. The thinking is that the Lakers won't be a title contender in 2014 and may struggle to rebuild around him. Also, Howard did not enjoy playing in Mike D'Antoni's system.

The Rockets are planning on pitching to Howard their team's strength in China and the lack of state income tax in Texas as financial benefits to offset the difference he can make from the Lakers.

The Mavericks will attempt to sell Howard on a two-year plan to reshape its roster around the core of Mark Cuban, Rick Carlisle and Dirk Nowitzki.

Howard has never expressed any interest in playing in his hometown of Atlanta, giving them perhaps the longest odds.

The Warriors would need a sign-and-trade agreement to acquire Howard and it is believed their meeting is largely about establishing the franchise as a marquee destination for 2014.

Warriors Won't Meet With Dwight Howard In Free Agency

Jun 29, 2013 2:58 PM

The Golden State Warriors will not meet with Dwight Howard in free agency, according to a source.

It had been previously reported that Howard would meet with the Warriors.

The only way the Warriors could acquire Howard is via sign-and-trade, which the Los Angeles Lakers have repeatedly said they will have no interest in.

The Lakers, Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks are the only three teams considered to be serious suitors for Howard. The Atlanta Hawks will receive a meeting with Howard, but it appears it will only be as a courtesy.

Curry Anxious To Work On Game In Offseason Instead Of Rehab Ankle

Jun 25, 2013 9:12 PM

Stephen Curry is excited to be able to work on his game this offseason instead of rehabbing his ankle off another surgery.

Curry began workouts this week and has no limit on what he can do.

"It's huge," Curry said Monday. "Mentally, that's the biggest part. You don't have to worry about the rehab. It wears on you every day knowing you have to wake up and do these mundane exercises to get your range of motion back."

Curry averaged 23.4 points and 8.1 assists in the playoffs.

Curry wants to work on ways to increase his draw foul rate.

"That's the biggest thing," said Curry. "In the playoffs I've found your shot can take you a long way, but to be able to not let defenders play so tight on you and be able to get those easy points at the free-throw line definitely opens the game up for you more, especially in those games where you aren't shooting the ball so well. You still have a way to get easy points if you can get to the line."

Marcus Fizer Hopes Christian Faith, Physicality Appeals To Warriors

Jun 24, 2013 1:01 PM

Marcus Fizer had a two-day workout with the Golden State Warriors last week as he attempts an NBA comeback at 34.

Fizer is hoping that his physicality and Christian faith will give him a place with the Warriors as a veteran forward.

"I ran from it and fought it for so long, but each and every time I chose to do things my way, God always showed up and let me know that it wasn't about me - over and over and over again," Fizer said. "I finally got myself to realize that my purpose in life is bigger than what I want to do. It's to help the people who are coming up behind me.

"I didn't approach the game the right way. I didn't approach my job the right way. If I can be here to help those guys not go the way I did, I'll take that 100 times out of 100."

The Warriors have one of the ubiquitously religious locker rooms in the NBA, led by Mark Jackson.

Fizer was the No. 4 overall pick in the 2000 NBA Draft by the Chicago Bulls.

Carl Landry Expected To Opt Out, Test Free Agency

Jun 21, 2013 11:19 PM

Carl Landry is expected to opt out of his contract for next season and become a free agent.

"He's worth a lot more than the contract he has and the direction (we're moving) toward is him opting out," said his agent, Mark Bartelstein. "Things can change, but that's where it's leaning."

Landry signed a reported two-year, $8 million contract last summer with the second year as a player option.

"(The Warriors) knew it was essentially a one-year deal when he signed," Bartelstein said. "They got him at below market value."
