O'Neal: Talk Of Firing Mark Jackson 'Unfair'

Mar 30, 2014 12:43 PM

Jermaine O'Neal says that the biggest factor in whether he returns next season will be the presence of Mark Jackson.

"It's a couple reasons why I will come back," O'Neal said Saturday. "This fan base, this organization is first class, and obviously my teammates are great, as well.

"But the No. 1 reason that I will come back and play another year is because of Coach Jackson. I'm absolutely, 100 percent positive about that. He makes it easy to come in this gym every day, and there's not a lot of coaches that do that."

O'Neal is bothered by the possibility of Jackson not being retained in the offseason.

"To me, it's one of the most unfair things that I've seen in a long time," O'Neal said. "And it truly is a team that's 18 games over .500. Eighteen. And we're talking about firing a coach with 10, 11 games left?

"Here's the facts. To everybody that's negative out there, you may not ever see this again. I know that firsthand because I've been in the position. It may take 10 years to be back in that position, so do you want to accept us with open arms and continue to show the support?"

Sources: Scalabrine Had Verbal Altercation With Pete Myers

Mar 27, 2014 12:11 AM

Brian Scalabrine and Pete Myers had a head verbal exchange following last Saturday's loss by the Golden State Warriors to the San Antonio Spurs. Sources say the altercation is what likely led to Scalabrine's reassignment.

Myers has been on Jackson's staff since 2011.

Mark Jackson cited a ”difference in philosophies” with Scalabrine when asked about the situation on Wednesday, but reiterated that there is no dysfunction with his team.

“We are excited about what’s taken place up until this point — the culture, the environment with no dysfunction at all,” Jackson said after practice on Tuesday. “That’s comical.

“I know dysfunction, and that could not be further from the truth, and if it was true, there’d be more people in the choir singing it. That’s entertainment.”

Jackson took nearly twice as long as usual to meet with reporters following that loss.

“Just talking, that’s all,” said Jackson when asked about the delay.

“I was talking with my staff, not the players. We were just talking basketball, that’s all.”

Curry Publicly Supports Jackson, Wants To Be Heard Before Management Acts

Mar 26, 2014 7:55 PM

While management of the Golden State Warriors has not come out in support of Mark Jackson since news broke of Brian Scalabrine's reassignment, his players are remaining loyal.

“I love coach and everything he’s about,” Curry told reporters after practice on Wednesday.

Several players have expressed dismay about the lack of favor Jackson seems to have with the Warriors' management.

Players also took note when Joe Lacob told Tim Kawakami he was disappointed and had some concerns about Jackson.

Multiple players told Thompson that they get the sense Jackson could leave in the offseason, whether it is by Jackson's choice or management.

Curry also said that he would like his voice herd before management makes a decision on Jackson's future.

Mark Jackson Forces Reassignment Of Scalabrine As Dysfunction Grows

Mar 25, 2014 2:52 PM

Mark Jackson has forced a reassignment of Brian Scalabrine, league sources told Yahoo!

Scalabrine joined the Golden State Warriors in the offseason as an assistant coach.

Ownership and management have been strong advocates of Scalabrine and his performance on the job, but Jackson will have control of his staff for as long as he's head coach.

Scalabrine's role is unclear, but the Warriors want to retain him.

Jackson has one season remaining on his contract and the situation has become dysfunctional.

Jackson and Michael Malone would go weeks without speaking to each other last season.

Jackson has tried and failed to get involved with several head coaching openings over the past several months, including the Los Angeles Clippers and Brooklyn Nets, league sources said.

Bogut Credits Scott Skiles For Developing His Play On Defense

Mar 22, 2014 1:55 PM

Andrew Bogut signed a three-year, $36 million contact extension with the Golden State Warriors in October and he credits the coaching of Scott Skiles during his tenure with the Milwaukee Bucks.

"Thankfully playing under Scott one thing I learned was to really play defense as a big," Bogut said. "That's helped me get the contract I did here."

Bogut was the first overall pick by the Bucks in the 2005 NBA Draft.

Jermaine O'Neal Confronts Blake Griffin In Postgame Hallway

Mar 13, 2014 6:40 PM

Jermaine O'Neal confronted Blake Griffin after the Los Angeles Clippers' win over the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday night.

Griffin was talking to friends and taking pictures when O'Neal approached him in the postgame hallway.

“Why you going to walk up on me like that?” Griffin asked O’Neal. “Leave that ... on the court. Leave that ... on the court.”

O’Neal snarled, shook Griffin’s hand and walked away.

“Man, I’m a monster off the court,” O’Neal said, turning away.

Before Griffin walked into the postgame interview room, he responded.

“Man, get out of here with that,” Griffin said.

The two had gotten into an altercation in the fourth quarter on Wednesday.
