Steve Kerr Could Return This Weekend

Dec 31, 2015 12:12 PM

Steve Kerr could resume his duties as head coach of the Golden State Warriors this weekend, though no firm timetable has been set.

Kerr joined the Warriors for their two-game trip to Texas.

"It's obviously a possibility," interim coach Luke Walton said of Kerr's potential return to the bench this weekend. "He hasn't said he's going to. To be honest, I don't think he knows yet. I think that's part of why he's on this road trip, to see how his body handles the travel and getting into Houston at 1 a.m. tonight to turn around and play again then get on another plane and fly home and get in late again. So that's part of why he's here on this trip, whether or not this weekend is a realistic return or not."

Kerr is declining interview requests until he resumes coaching duties, according to a Warriors spokesman.

The Warriors host the Nuggets on Saturday for their first game of 2016.

Stephen Curry Could Sit Multiple Games With Injured Leg

Dec 29, 2015 11:10 PM

Stephen Curry might not play on the Golden State Warriors' road trip at the Dallas Mavericks and Houston Rockets because of his ailing left lower leg.

Curry didn't participate in Tuesday's light practice after limping through the Warriors' win on Monday.

Luke Walton said he believed Curry was suffering from something similar to the calf strain that he sustained in his right leg last week but did not know the specifics.

"There's a chance that he won't play in one or both," Walton said. "That's probably going to be a game-time decision or at least determined on how he's feeling tomorrow.

"He hasn't said anything except for he wants to play. Even last night in the game when I saw him in the game limping, and I tried to take him out, he gave the wave-off and said that it was fine."

Curry Amused, Confused By Mark Jackson's Comments About 'Hurting' Game

Dec 26, 2015 1:42 AM

Mark Jackson said the three-point oriented game of Stephen Curry is "hurting" basketball.

"Understand what I'm saying when I say this. He's hurting the game," Jackson said. "And what I mean by that is that I go into these high school gyms, I watch these kids, and the first thing they do is they run to the 3-point line. You are not Steph Curry. Work on the other aspects of the game."

Curry laughed at Jackson's comments but also seemed confused by them.

"I have to talk to him," Curry told Yahoo Sports. "I don't know what he means by that. If you can shoot, shoot. If you can't, stop."

Andrew Bogut, who also played under Jackson, didn't appreciate his former coach's remarks.

"Anything he says, you can take that with a grain of salt," Bogut said. "And you can quote me on that."

Luke Walton: Great Experience Playing Grind It Out Game

Dec 26, 2015 1:29 AM

The Golden State Warriors scored under 100 points for the first time at home this season in their 89-83 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

During the playoffs last season, they were held to under 100 points five times.

There were 96 possessions in the game and the Warriors score 92.8 points per 100 possessions.

"It's good to practice and get experience in that type of game as well where it's low scoring, getting stops, knocking down free throws and executing in the half court," Luke Walton said. "It's great experience for us."

Stephen Curry Not Expected To Miss Time With Calf Injury

Dec 25, 2015 11:47 AM

Stephen Curry is expected to play on Christmas Day despite taking a knee to the right calf on Wednesday.

Curry said he was "just fine."

"Little bruise, I'll be all right," he said. "That's about it."

Luke Walton said he initially was concerns about Curry's condition.

"So I was going to sit him the rest of the fourth, but [Steph] told me, he swore to me, that he was fine and that he just got kneed in the calf and that he was good to go back in, so we put him back in there," Walton said.

Curry was not present for media availability after the game and received extra treatment after Thursday's practice.

Stephen Curry: In My Mind, I'm The NBA's Best Player

Dec 24, 2015 11:51 AM

Stephen Curry believes he has become the NBA's best player.

Curry is the reigning MVP and the early frontrunner this season.

"In my mind, yes," Curry said when asked by Time magazine, in an interview published Wednesday, whether he was the best player in the world. "That's how I have confidence out there that I can play at a high level every night."

Curry said it's simply a mindset he needs to be in to play at his peak.

"I don't get into debates, arguing with people about why I am versus somebody else," Curry said. "I feel like anybody who's at the level I'm trying to be at, if you don't think that when you're on the floor, then you're doing yourself a disservice."

Kerr: Luke Walton Destined To Become A Head Coach

Dec 23, 2015 11:38 AM

Luke Walton has done an outstanding job leading the Golden State Warriors on an interim basis after just one season as an NBA assistant.

Steve Kerr believes Walton will be a full fledged head coach someday.

“Well, he’s destined to be a head coach,” Kerr said of Walton. “Hopefully, he takes his time and stays here for a while. We like him. We want him to stay, but that’s a long way off. We’ve got this season to worry about and plenty to do, plenty of work ahead.”

Warriors Given Just 30.3 Percent Chance Of Winning 72 Games

Dec 21, 2015 1:19 PM

The Basketball Power Index from ESPN gives the Golden State Warriors only a 30.3 percent chance to win 72 games this season.

The Warriors, however, are two games ahead of the Chicago Bulls' 95-96 pace after their 26-1 start to the season.

If the Warriors beat the Utah Jazz on Wednesday, they will clinch the best record at Christmas the NBA has ever seen.
