Warriors Win Court Battle On New Arena, Expected To Break Ground Soon

Nov 29, 2016 8:40 PM

The Golden State Warriors won a court battle on Tuesday that could lead to the franchise breaking ground on a new arena in San Francisco within the next few months.

An appeals court rejected a last bid to keep the Warriors from relocating to the Mission Bay area of San Francisco.

"We’re very pleased by the Appellate Court’s ruling," said Rick Welts in a statement. "We engaged in an extensive public planning process and we were approved by every board, agency and regulatory body we went before.

"Now our project has been upheld by the trial court and the court of appeals. This decision clears the path for us to build a new state-of-the-art sports and entertainment venue and bring the Warriors back home to San Francisco.

"We look forward to breaking ground soon.”

Stephen Curry: It's Hard To See Myself Anywhere Else

Nov 29, 2016 6:04 PM

Stephen Curry said the Bay Area feels like home to him just a few months before he's set to become a free agent for the first time in his career.

“It’s hard to see myself anywhere else,” said Curry.

Curry will come off a four-year, $44 million extension signed in 2012.

While Curry is confident he'll re-sign with the Golden State Warriors, he did also say "curveballs happen all the time."

Kevin Durant will also likely join Curry in free agency.

Draymond Green: The Better You Get, The More Enjoyable It Is

Nov 27, 2016 2:51 PM

Draymond Green is attempting 1.2 fewer field goals and 1.2 fewer free throws per game, and his shooting percentage is down overall and on 3-pointers. But he's become even more committed on defense to continue being an invaluable part of the Golden State Warriors' core even with Kevin Durant.

“It’s been fun from Day 1,” he said. “The one thing we knew coming into this is we’d get a lot of criticism, where it’s one guy, two guys, the entire team, there’s going to be criticism. The way we look at, if it’s one guy then it’s all of us. It’s something that we expected and it’s happened, but we enjoy each other. It continues to get better and better as we jell more. The better you get, the more enjoyable it is.”

Green also understood he would likely be the one singled out for criticism as potentially divisive.

“It didn’t really [tick] me off because one thing I know is people don’t know me anyway and I don’t expect them to know me,” he said. “I wouldn’t necessarily say it [ticked] me off because everything they judge on me is wrong anyway. And I don’t expect them to judge that one right.”

Draymond Green Injures Ankle, X-Rays Negative

Nov 26, 2016 11:03 AM

Draymond Green suffered a left ankle contusion in the Golden State Warriors' 109-85 win over the Los Angeles Lakers.

Green left the game and did not return, but X-rays came back negative.

The incident occurred when Green went up to contest a shot by the Lakers' Louis Williams and landed on teammate Ian Clark, who was under the basket.

Both players stayed on the floor for several minutes.

Green did not finish the last game against the Lakers on Wednesday after suffering a left corneal abrasion.

Warriors Learning How To Protect Rim In Different Ways

Nov 22, 2016 1:04 PM

The Golden State Warriors have lost their traditional rim protection with the trade of Andrew Bogut and the free agency departure of Festus Ezeli, but they are now getting production in the area from multiple players.

“Our block shots sort of come in different ways now,” Steve Kerr said. “They used to come from (Andrew) Bogut and (Festus) Ezeli. Now they come from KD, Draymond (Green), Andre (Iguodala). It’s a long, active perimeter that ends up with a lot of the shot blocks. So it is different.”

The Warriors are averaging 6.1 blocks per game, tied for fourth in the NBA and equal to their average last season.

Durant has 25 blocks this season compared to 10 in all of last season by Harrison Barnes.

“It hasn’t really surprised me,” Kerr said. “We watched it up close for seven games last year in the playoffs. He did that to us a lot. When Kevin is engaged defensively, he’s an excellent defender and causes a lot of problems.”

“It’s not quite the same as it was,” Draymond Green said. “But I still think we have a great defense, a lot of good defenders. We fly around and do what we can, try to cover for each other.”

Steve Kerr Fined $25,000 For Blooper Reel Comments About Refs

Nov 20, 2016 2:14 PM

Steve Kerr has been fined $25,000 by the NBA for publicly criticizing referees.

“How is it that everybody on Earth can see these traveling violations except for the three people that we pay to do the job?” Kerr told KNBR. “I don’t get it. It’s bizarre. (Traveling is) a point of emphasis on one particular play and that’s when you catch and go…It’s just the one that the officials are taught to see.”

“But I can literally put together a blooper reel of plays that are embarrassing travels that are just not called. I believe it’s a case of they have so many things to look at — they are looking at defensive three seconds, the contact in the lane when people are cutting through the lane, they’re looking at the charge and block circle — they’re looking at everything except what they should be looking at which is the basic rule of the game, which is traveling. And it’s a shame because guys are getting away with murder out there and the fans see it.”

Under Armour Stock Falls As Sales Slow On Stephen Curry's New Shoe

Nov 20, 2016 11:15 AM

Under Armour's stocked fell by more than four percent on Friday as the latest Stephen Curry shoe hasn't sold as well as expected.

Foot Locker CEO Dick Johnson said the Curry 3 "started off a bit slower than the previous models," causing a sell-off in the stock market.

Curry's products make up about five percent of Under Armour's total business.

Johnson said the basketball shoe market was softer than in the past overall.

Johnson also said it's still "early days" to completely judge the Curry 3. As of Tuesday, the Curry 3 has will have been on sale for a month.

"We're optimistic that they [Under Armour] are going to be able to continue to keep that [footwear business] with some momentum behind it and certainly expand their footwear offerings," Johnson said.

Draymond Green: Booing Durant 'May Scare Free Agents Away' From Boston

Nov 19, 2016 3:32 PM

Kevin Durant was greeted with loud boos from Boston Celtics' fans in Friday's 104-88 win by the Golden State Warriors at the TD Garden.

Draymond Green defended his teammate and warned Celtics' fans that the tactic may deter future free agents.

"Fans must be desperate," Green said after the game. "Like, who boos a guy for taking an interview. That's crazy. Y'all booing somebody for interviewing with y'all?

"Man, they may scare free agents away. You don't want to take an interview and then make enemies for taking an interview. I don't know. They may want to be careful with that."

Durant met with the Celtics in the Hamptons.

"If you're that mad at what somebody else did with [their] life, you need to evaluate your own life," Green said. "[Durant] made a personal decision for his life, for his happiness, for his career. And if people [are] that mad, they need to re-evaluate where their head is at in life.

"I don't know if I can stay that mad at somebody for deciding to do something with their life. That's a slippery slope."
