Warriors Encouraging Kevin Durant To Be Aggressive In Seeking Shots

Sep 29, 2016 7:48 PM

The Golden State Warriors are stressing that they want Kevin Durant to be aggressive.

"I'm not gonna get into that. I may shoot 25 shots one game, I may shoot 7," said Durant.

Durant on Thursday said Green has encouraged him to be more aggressive than he was during Thursday's training camp session.

"Yeah, I shot a lot today, and Draymond told me I wasn't aggressive enough," said Durant.

With a smile, he then said, "So that's great for me."

Green was "just basically telling me to shoot more," Durant said.

"So everybody's trying to make me feel comfortable. Coming from me, I'm just trying to help everybody else out. But when you have teammates that are unselfish and want you to do well, it shows, man. It shows out on the floor as well."

Durant said the Warriors signed him because they want him to take shots.

"That's why they wanted me here! They want me to come out here and be myself. I'm not going to play timid or not step on anyone's toes, but I'm still going to be myself," he said. "Nobody's telling me I'm shooting too much. They want me to be myself out there."

Stephen Curry Likely Set For 200 Percent Increase On Next Contract

Sep 28, 2016 12:42 PM

If Stephen Curry decides to re-sign with the Golden State Warriors, he could sign a five-year, $165 million max deal based off the current cap estimates.

Curry could only sign a four-year deal with smaller raises should he ultimately decide to leave the Warriors.

Curry said this week that he plans to re-sign with the Warriors.

Curry is currently one of the NBA's best values as he signed a four-year, $44 million extension in 2012. Curry will have an increase of approximately 200 percent on his annual average.

Steve Kerr: Warriors 'Pretty' In First Practice Of Camp

Sep 28, 2016 10:36 AM

The Golden State Warriors worked through drills with relative speed and precision in practice on Tuesday.

“It was kind of pretty,” said Steve Kerr. “We had some good flow. Our guys were locked in.”

The Warriors are beginning to work Kevin Durant into their system.

“I was anxious,” Durant said. “The first day of camp is exciting. Everyone thinks they have a chance to do something special.”

“It was pretty relaxed and comfortable,” Stephen Curry said. “There were a lot of personalities, a lot of senses of humors, a lot of guys joking around. … But it obviously takes a minute to kind of look around and think of who’s not there, who is there.”

The Warriors open up preseason play in Vancouver on Saturday against the Raptors.

Stephen Curry Wants To Re-Sign With Warriors

Sep 27, 2016 6:22 PM

Stephen Curry will be a free agent in 2017 and he's not at all worried about it becoming a distraction.

“Yes,” Curry said when asked if he's optimistic about his chances of re-signing.

Curry could get questions about his free agency when visiting other cities such as Charlotte.

“I hope not,” Curry said. “Because we’ll worry about that in the summer. My answer’s not going to be different all year.”

Curry also was asked if he'll talk to Kevin Durant about how he handled questions about his free agency.

“Maybe,” Curry said. “But I’m not gonna let it distract me at all. I want to be back here. I like playing here. And that’s it. The rest of it is about what we’re gonna do this year.”

Kevin Durant: Nothing's Changed Except For My Jersey

Sep 27, 2016 10:36 AM

Kevin Durant is anticipating a quick adjustment period with the Golden State Warriors.

“I’m going to be who I am, and approach the game like I’ve always done it. Nothing’s changed on my end, except for my jersey,” said Durant.

Durant wants to win as part of a brotherhood with his new teammates.

“I don’t want to go out there and play upset with everybody else,” Durant said. “I want to play my game, and enjoy the game of basketball like I’ve always been enjoying it, and everything else will work itself out.”

Zaza Pachulia Sacrificed 'Significant' Money To Be 'All In On This Year'

Sep 23, 2016 11:28 AM

Zaza Pachulia agreed to a one-year, $2.9 million contract with the Golden State Warriors to become the starting center for a title contender.

“Of course money is important,” Zaza says. “Very important. Important to everybody. If I said it wasn’t, I’d be lying. Especially because it’s not like I’ve made hundreds of millions of dollars in my career.”

Pachulia has never made more than $5.2 million in a single season.

“A pretty significant amount,” Pachulia said when asked the exact dollar amount he left on the table. “Don’t want to get into the details. But a pretty significant amount. I’ll be a free agent next year, so we’ll see again. But first of all, I’m not thinking about next year. I’m all in on this year. That’s the reason why I sacrificed financially. It’s not because of next summer. It’s because of this season.”

Bob Myers almost reluctantly reached out to Pachulia figuring he'd be out of their price range.

“I didn’t really want to call his agent,” Myers joked. “Because I didn’t think it was going to happen.”

Steve Kerr helped close the deal with Pachulia.

“We closed the deal basically after I talked to coach,” Pachulia said. “He’s a good salesman. Good guy. You can tell from interviews what kind of person he is. Trustable. Honest. You can tell from his tone, from his manners. After our phone conversation, I knew I wanted to be part of it.”

Warriors Expecting To More Frequently Rest Players

Sep 23, 2016 11:24 AM

The Golden State Warriors will more actively rest players this season after winning 73 regular season games in 15-16.

“The last two years I think have taught all of us within the organization that, everybody says it’s a marathon, but it really is,” Bob Myers said on Thursday. “We realized last year that mile 24 — I haven’t run a marathon, maybe some of you have — but they say that once you hit mile 20 or 21, the last five miles are the worst. And I think we learned last year that you gotta have something at mile 24, gotta have something at mile 25. I think we all have to take, us and the organization, have to take the approach that it’s a long road. We gotta have some juice.”

Developing comfort and on-court chemistry will be important early in the season.

“Last year, I know I said there was no way we’d win 73 games and we did,” Myers chuckled. “But I don’t see us being 24-0. I don’t see it. And it’s completely fine. I hope we see growth. I hope we see development. But getting to know each other is going to be the challenge.”

Kevin Durant Disagreed With Criticism Of His Character Following Decision

Sep 22, 2016 3:56 PM

Kevin Durant was asked about a narrative that emerged when he signed with the Golden State Warriors that he's impressionable and that he had people pushing him to leave the Oklahoma City Thunder.

"It did," said Durant when asked if it bothered him. "I can't go in a studio and express myself through words and it be a normal day. If I were to come out and Tweet something or Instagram or whatever, a video of me disagreeing with what a write said would be career suicide."

Durant announced his decision on July 4th in the Players Tribune.

"Once I made the decision, I knew I had to take a lot of stuff on the chin. I knew I had to keep rolling iwht the punches. It upset me. It upset me coming from people I spent time with. Obviously they were upset.

"When they called me weak, I think I'm the total opposite. There was plenty of times I could have quit in this whole life. There's plenty of times when I lost, I could have just said 'well, that's it for me, let me move on.'

"How am I weak if I'm at the elite level of my profession and I chose to play for a different team."

Stephen Curry Still Hasn't Gotten Over Game 7 Loss

Sep 20, 2016 8:05 PM

Stephen Curry had 17 points, two assists and four turnovers in Game 7 of the NBA Finals, a loss he still hasn't recovered from.

“I still haven’t gotten over Game 7,” Curry said. “That’s something that will stay with me pretty much forever, for good and bad reasons. Obviously you hated the feeling, but it’s also a motivator to come back even stronger and try not to have that feeling again.

“I’m at that point now where I can try to fuel any kind of terrible nightmares or thoughts about Game 7 into motivation for how I’m going to prepare myself for this year.”

Curry and the Warriors below a 3-1 series lead.

“Starting with that night (of Game 7), it kind of was like a surreal feeling at home, kind of like, ‘What just happened?’ because we were so confident we could get it done,” Curry said. “Human nature kind of took in, where I was a little down — kind of naturally. But I was able to kind of just get away, go on vacation with the family (in Hawaii), get in front of the next generation at a couple (basketball) camps, still be around the game but not be depressed at all and understand we’re playing for the Finals and hopefully get another chance at it next year.”
