Don Nelson will be among this year's class inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame.
Nelson, a three-time coach of the year and the NBA's all-time winningest coach, said he got the call Wednesday morning after being snubbed for several years. The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame will officially announce the 2012 class on Monday at the NCAA Final Four in New Orleans.
"It's a great honor to cap my career," said Nelson, who is involved in several business ventures and splits his time between Dallas and Maui. "I've had a great time and a great life coaching basketball. I don't actually need to be rewarded for anything, but I am very proud and my family is very proud of this award."
The Warriors have announced that Stephen Curry will continue his rehabilitation from his right ankle injury and won't see game action for at least two more weeks.
Curry has missed the last 10 games due to the injury.
Sources tell Yahoo!'s Adrian Wojnarowski that Curry is pushing to return this season.
The Warriors are protecting the long-term health of Curry, while also trying to retain their own first round draft pick that will be sent to the Jazz if it falls out of the top-7.
The Golden State Warriors have signed free agent center Keith Benson to a 10-day contract.
Benson, 23, is being called-up from the Sioux Falls Skyforce of the NBA Development League, where he has appeared in 20 games this season, averaging 15.2 points, 7.8 rebounds and 1.50 blocks in 30.6 minutes per contest.
Stephen Curry will see an ankle specialist on Thursday in Los Angeles.
Curry will then meet with Warriors' management to discuss his status for the rest of the season.
“He would love to play. In fact, that's been one of the problems," general manager Larry Riley said. "He's wanted to be out there probably before he should have at times. He wants to play, but he also has gained an awful lot of wisdom."
Riley said there is something to gain from Curry playing in the season's final month.
"To prove to himself and to put his own mind at ease," Riley said. "It's a season that's been very frustrating for him."
The Golden State Warriors have assigned forward Chris Wright to the Dakota Wizards of the NBA Development League.
Wright, 23, has appeared in 17 games with the Warriors this season, averaging 2.1 points and 1.1 rebounds in 4.7 minutes. This marks the second assignment of the season for Wright, as he previously was assigned to the Wizards on January 26 and averaged 20.7 points, 10.0 rebounds, 1.0 assist and 2.33 blocks in 31.0 minutes over three games before being recalled on February 6.
Kyrylo Fesenko will sign with the Pacers for the remainder of the season, according to sources.
Fesenko and the Warriors mutually cancelled an agreement they reached in December on a one-year deal because he was still rehabbing from an offseason knee surgery.
Fesenko also received strong interest from the Mavericks and Celtics.
The Golden State Warriors have signed free agent center Mickell Gladness to a 10-day contract.
Gladness made his NBA debut this season as a member of the Miami Heat, appearing in eight games over two different stints with the club. The 6’11” center made the Heat’s opening night roster and appeared in three games before being waived on February 7. He subsequently signed the first of two 10-day contracts with the Heat on February 12 and signed the second 10-day contract on February 28.
