Gersson Rosas officially returned to work with the Houston Rockets on Thursday.

Rosas spent three months as general manager of the Dallas Mavericks before stepping down and now he says he has "some unfinished work to do" with the Rockets.

Rosas returns for his 10th season with the Rockets largely in the role he had before he left along with Gianluca Pascucci.

“At the end of the day, they know where my heart is and they know that I’m committed to this organization, so the opportunity to come back is special.

“Being a guy who’s grown up in Houston and being around in the championship years , that was my passion to bring a championship team back. It’s going to take time and it’s going to take a lot of effort, but being in a position to impact it at that level is very special to me.”

Rosas said that his tenure with Dallas proved that "it just was the right fit."

“The name of the game is talent. We have to finish what we started. We’ve got to complete the roster. This is a year of development and maturation or this team. I think there’s major championship expectations, but it takes time.

“To come back to Houston was a special opportunity. The opportunity in Dallas just didn’t work out. To get a chance to come back to your hometown team and get a chance to continue doing what you’ve always been doing through your career, which is to give them an opportunity to be successful and win at the highest level is an opportunity that I cherish.

“It’s good to be home.”

Rosas helped Daryl Morey assemble the Rockets' roster, including the recruitment of Dwight Howard.

The Houston Rockets remain without Omer Asik and are not sure why the center has been unable to make enough progress to return from his knee injury.

Asik has made progress in his knee injury and increase his workouts, but his knee reportedly swells up afterward. The Rockets have sent Asik for multiple MRI exams and another expert to get an idea of why the problem has remained persistent.

“He had some swelling again in his knee,” Kevin McHale said. “It seems like he amps it up to a certain level and it swells up again. They’re still trying to figure out what’s causing that swelling when he gets up to a certain level of activity. They MRI, they sent it out again for certain people to look at again. His symptoms are not going the way the doctors think they should be.”

Asik has reportedly requested multiple trades since the offseason.

Rosas spent nine seasons with the Rockets before becoming general manager of the Dallas Mavericks in July.

Rosas will share the executive VP title with Gianluca Pascucci and share in the oversight of the Rockets' player personnel and scouting.

The Brooklyn Nets and Houston Rockets discussed a trade of Jeremy Lin and Omer Asik for Deron Williams.

Sources also confirmed the report to Howard Beck of Bleacher Report.

"Nothing came of it. ... seems dead," said a source.

Dwight Howard was long tied to teaming up with Williams as a member of the Nets.

Patrick Beverley suffered a fractured right hand, the Houston Rockets announced.

Beverley is expected to miss four to six weeks, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Beverley is averaging 9.6 points and 3.9 rebounds this season.

The Houston Rockets will call up Isaiah Canaan from the D-League.

Canaan has averaged 21.7 points and 9.2 assists per game with the Rio Grande Valley Rapids.

Canaan was the 34th overall pick by the Rockets in the 2013 NBA Draft out of Murray State.

The Houston Rockets have called off trade talks involving Omer Asik ahead of their self-imposed deadline.

The Rockets had been discussing a trade of Asik with the Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers. Both front offices have ties to Daryl Morey in the form of Danny Ainge and Sam Hinkie.

The Celtics were offering Brandon Bass and Courtney Lee, along with a first round pick for Asik.

Many teams are leery of Asik's $15 million contract for next season, even though it counts as $8.3 million against the cap and luxury tax.

Morey has also informed Asik's agent, Arn Tellem, that he's ended trade talks at this point.

The Houston Rockets can trade Omer Asik on Friday and still re-trade anyone acquired before Feb. 20, but they will continue to operate under their self-imposed Thursday deadline.

If the Rockets are unable to agree to terms on a trade, they will reset trade talks entirely.

The Rockets' strong preference is to trade Asik by the end of Thursday, but appear willing to blow up negotiations.

The Rockets and Boston Celtics have moved closest to a deal.

The Lakers are encouraged by the turnaround in Pau Gasol's play and his wish to make amends with Mike D'Antoni.

The Rockets nearly acquired Gasol in a vetoed trade in 2011.

The Boston Celtics are making progress on a trade with the Houston Rockets for Omer Asik.

The Rockets would acquire Brandon Bass, Courtney Lee and a first round pick from the Celtics.

Lee, Bass and Dwight Howard played together with the Orlando Magic.

The Celtics and Rockets are not discussing any three-team scenarios.
