The Houston Rockets assigned second-year forward Tyler Honeycutt to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, the Rockets’ NBA Development League affiliate.

Honeycutt has played in 24 games over two seasons, averaging 1.2 points and 1.0 rebound in 5.0 minutes, all with Sacramento.

Robinson Likes Rockets' Up-And-Down Pace, Expects To Be Good Fit

Feb 24, 2013 12:23 AM

Thomas Robinson was traded by the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday to the Houston Rockets, a rare instance where a top lottery pick is dealt midway through his rookie season.

“I found out through Marcus Morris,” Robinson told RealGM. “He called me and then my agent let me know so it was pretty quick.”

After a frustrating start to his career with the Kings, Robinson is ready for his opportunity with the Rockets.

“I’m on a new team, new organization, so it’s definitely a new start for me,” Robinson told RealGM.

Robinson feels the Rockets style of play is a good fit for his skill set.

“It’s an up-and-down pace and I’m a young guy,” said Robinson. “I feel like I’ll fit right in with them.”

Robinson hopes to display the same skills that made him the fifth overall pick out of Kansas.

“As far as what I can bring is the same energy, effort, and trying to be a good teammate,” said Robinson.

Morey Comfortable With Move To Smaller Lineup

Feb 21, 2013 10:49 PM

Daryl Morey parted with three frontcourt players, including Patrick Patterson and Marcus Morris, in two separate trades that brought Thomas Robinson, Francisco Garcia, Tyler Honeycutt and a second-round draft pick to the Houston Rockets.

Morey is comfortable with the move to a smaller lineup.

“It’s sustainable,” he said. “Look across the league. Teams that play small play well. Your offense goes up and your defense goes down, but your offense goes up more than the defense goes down. A lot of teams are playing small. We’ve got the personnel to do it.”

Morey has high hopes for Robinson, who was the fifth overall pick in last June’s draft.

"Thomas is a guy people are going to love," Morey told Howard Chen of CSNHouston. "High energy, runs the floor, led the country in rebounding when he was at Kansas. He's a guy we really think has the potential to be our starting big man.

"When the coaches feel Thomas is ready to unleash him, I feel he's a guy who's really going to screen and roll, finish, very athletic, super high energy, runs the floor. I'm really excited with Thomas."

Rockets Pull Out Of Talks For Josh Smith

Feb 21, 2013 1:21 PM

The Houston Rockets have reportedly pulled out of their pursuit of Josh Smith.

The Rockets presumably could sign Smith outright in the summer with their cap space.

The Atlanta Hawks have been aggressively shopping Smith ahead of the deadline.

Rockets, Hawks Discuss Josh Smith Trade

Feb 21, 2013 9:47 AM

The Houston Rockets are involved in "high level" talks with the Atlanta Hawks on Josh Smith, according to a source.

The Rockets have enough cap space to sign Smith outright in the offseason.

The Hawks would want to acquire Omer Asik and Chandler Parsons in exchange for Smith, according to Adrian Wojnarowski. That level of trade package would be too for the Rockets to relinquish.

Report: Rockets Continue To Make Moves With Eye On Dwight Howard

Feb 21, 2013 1:28 AM

The Houston Rockets continue to make moves that improve their chances of acquiring Dwight Howard, according to a source.

The Rockets realize that the Lakers will not trade Howard ahead of the deadline, but his future with the franchise as a free agent is clearly uncertain.

The Rockets continue to clear cap room in hope of becoming an attractive alternative for Howard, especially given the success of James Harden.

Houston traded away Marcus Morris while also acquiring Thomas Robinson on Wednesday.

Robinson was the fifth overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft.

Rockets Expect Morey's Streak Of Deadline Deals To End

Feb 20, 2013 2:17 PM

The Houston Rockets have been highly active in trade talks throughout the tenure of Daryl Morey, but this deadline is expected to be different.

The Rockets completed a blockbuster trade for James Harden in October and remain high on their young players.

“We’re not doing anything,” Kevin McHale said. “I’d be shocked if we do anything.”

Morey has made at least one deadline move at each of his previous five seasons as Rockets general manager.
