Love Trade Interest Coming From Same Teams As Garnett In 2007

May 19, 2014 2:08 PM

History is repeating itself in the form of the Minnesota Timberwolves trading away a perennial All-Star power forward named Kevin.

In 2007, the Wolves traded away Kevin Garnett to the Boston Celtics. The Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers, Phoenix Suns and Chicago Bulls were the teams to be closely rumored to discussing a trade with the Wolves.

In 2014, the Wolves appear likely to trade away Kevin Love. The parties likely to be involved are a virtual repeat of those 2007 trade discussions. The Celtics, Warriors, Lakers, Suns and Bulls have all been mentioned as interested parties. The Houston Rockets have also been added to the mix in these discussions.

The New York Knicks were also interested in Garnett back in 2007, but like their interest in Love this time around, they don't appear to have enough trade assets to become a realistic partner.

Rockets Fire Dean Cooper As Assistant Coach

May 11, 2014 8:35 PM

The Houston Rockets have dismissed Dean Cooper as assistant coach.

Cooper was one of the few members of the Rockets' organization dating back to the Rudy Tomjanovich era.

“I had two good stints with the Rockets,” Cooper said. “I’m very proud of the work that I did while I was here.”

Cooper began with the Rockets in 1999 as a video coordinator, eventually becoming an assistant coach on Tomjanovich’s staff.

Rockets Plan To Sign 'Terrific Free Agent' With Cap Space

May 7, 2014 1:51 PM

Leslie Alexander is planning on the Houston Rockets making a big improvement to their roster over the offseason.

The Rockets have acquired James Harden and Dwight Howard in the past two successive offseasons.

"We're going to have cap room to bring in a terrific free agent and I think next year we'll be a lot better than we were this year," Alexander said in an interview with FOX 26 Sports.

"I think the nucleus is great. I think we have two of the brightest stars in the league. We have players who are going to be much better next year, young guys. We have a very good nucleus."

Rockets Undecided On Exercising Parsons' Option

May 5, 2014 1:58 PM

The Houston Rockets are undecided on whether they will exercise or decline the team option on Chandler Parsons' contract.

By declining the option, the Rockets can work on a long-term deal with Parsons as a restricted free agent as opposed to dealing with him becoming an unrestricted free agent in 2015.

“We won’t know everything we need to know when we have to make a decision on on Chandler’s (contract) option," Daryl Morey said. "We have to make the best decision at the time we have to make it (June 29).”

Parsons averaged 16.6 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4 assists this season.

Morey Doesn't Anticipate Big Move To Trade Asik, Lin

May 4, 2014 10:57 PM

After the Houston Rockets' first round eliminating to the Portland Trail Blazers, Daryl Morey said the Rockets will remain aggressive on the trade and free agency market.

However, Morey does not anticipate a major move that could include Omer Asik and Jeremy Lin.

“I don’t expect something bigger like that to happen," Morey said when asked whether the Rockets need to involve Asik and Lin in offseason moves. "I could see where you would look to that if something bigger were to happen, but I don’t anticipate that.

“We’re always aggressive. We’ll always explore aggressive scenarios. But I feel confident if those don’t emerge, we’re not far off. We need to get (the record) into the high 50s if we’re going to be as good as we want to be. We need to improve our defense primarily. We were the youngest team in the league (in the post-season, fourth youngest and second least experienced in the regular season) and improving so an addition or two that are key, I feel confident we can make that step forward that we need to make."

Morey believes the Rockets must elevate their win total to the upper 50s and receive internal development.

“I would always take a third All-Star guy either from one of our guys improving or addition," Morey said. "There’s no negative to adding an All-Star level player. That said, I don’t feel it’s necessary. I do feel it’s my job to explore those things. I think our group playing more together after only a season together plus a lot of young players that can take a step forward and improve, plus we’ve got financial flexibility this year. We’re not limited to minimum player additions."

Rockets Expected To Check In On Rajon Rondo's Availability

May 4, 2014 11:23 AM

The Houston Rockets are expected to pursue a trade for Rajon Rondo again this offseason.

Daryl Morey checked in with the Celtics on Rondo at the February deadline.

Rondo seems like an odd fit for the Rockets since he operates with the ball in his hands and isn't a particularly skilled perimeter shooter.
