J.B. Bickerstaff: Rockets Have Repeatedly Disrespected The Game

Dec 27, 2015 3:31 PM

J.B. Bickerstaff says the Houston Rockets have consistently “disrespected the game.”

The Rockets are .500 again after losing to the New Orleans Pelicans on Saturday.

“We played San Antonio last night (and) played a wonderful game, a beautiful game on both sides of the ball,” said Bickerstaff. “We come out here tonight, things aren’t easy, things don’t go our way and we turn into the ugly Rockets again. It’s frustrating for me, it’s frustrating for all of us I’m sure, but it’s not treating the game the right way. Over and over again we’ve disrespected the game.”

Bickerstaff said it’s on him to start sitting those who aren’t focused on team success.

“Our priorities need to be clear and I need to do a better job of playing the people whose priorities are clear,” said Bickerstaff. “Winning is the only priority. If they’re not playing with that priority in mind, then they’re doing other things. Winning is the only priority that matters. That’s the message that should be loud and clear. We haven’t played to that level enough this year.”

Rockets Finding Minimal Ty Lawson Trade Options

Dec 23, 2015 6:35 PM

The Houston Rockets have attempted to accommodate Ty Lawson with a trade but the market for him as been minimal so far.

The Rockets traded for Lawson in the offseason after several legal issues.

As part of the trade with the Denver Nuggets, Lawson agreed to make his $13.2 million salary for 16-17 fully non-guaranteed.

"The only team that makes sense already has [Rajon] Rondo," an Eastern Conference executive said in reference to the Sacramento Kings. "There's no market."

Lawson previously played for George Karl with the Nuggets.

Ty Lawson To Receive Two-Game Suspension, Rockets Looking For Trade

Dec 18, 2015 1:11 PM

The NBA will suspend Ty Lawson for two games as a result of his 2014 DUI charges.

Lawson recently reached a legal resolution in his cases.

The NBA typically waits until the legal system resolves an issue before issuing a suspension.

Lawson was traded by the Denver Nuggets to the Houston Rockets in the offseason.

The Rockets are looking to trade Lawson, cooperating with his representatives. Lawson has struggled to find a way to play off the ball with James Harden also on the floor.

Houston gave up four players and a future draft pick in the deal with Denver, although the Nuggets ultimately released all four players.

Dwight Howard: I Chose To Go To Houston

Dec 16, 2015 6:35 PM

Dwight Howard emphatically refuted a report he is unhappy with the Houston Rockets.

“I chose to go to Houston (via free agency in the summer of 2013), so why would I just say, 'I'm not happy' and leave,” Howard, who is widely expected to become a free agent again this summer, told USA TODAY Sports. “I chose this place, you know what I'm saying? And I want to make this thing work here. Obviously we haven't been playing great basketball, and personally for myself my numbers don't seem like I've been playing great, but the only thing on my mind is trying to grow as a man and grow as a teammate and a leader. All the BS that's around, sometimes it is frustrating to hear it, because I know who I am as a man and I know what I'm trying to do for this city.”

Howard has a player option for next season worth $23.2 million, but a person with knowledge of the Rockets situation said they are expecting him to opt out and become a free agent.

Dec 16, 2015 11:34 AM

Dwight Howard strongly dismissed reports that he is unhappy with his situation with the Houston Rockets.

“I haven’t said anything to anybody about anything,” Howard said. “People make up lies and rumors. That’s never been my focus. I’m trying to get these guys to play better and get myself to play better.

“People are going to say what they got to say to get a story out. People are always going to come up with some rumor and lies. That’s what it is. I can’t focus on that. And I don’t want my teammates to focus on that.”
