May 31, 2013 7:45 PM

Chris Andersen has been suspended one game for his physical altercation with Tyler Hansbrough in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference finals between the Miami Heat and Indiana Pacers, the NBA announced on Friday.

Andersen will miss Game 6 on Saturday.

The incident -- in which Andersen shoved Hansbrough and escalated the altercation -- also was upgraded to a flagrant foul two.

Hansbrough was given a technical foul on the play but had it rescinded on Friday.

David West Wants To Re-Sign With Pacers

May 31, 2013 11:24 AM

David West wants to re-sign with the Indiana Pacers this summer as an unrestricted free agent.

“Yeah,’’ West said after the Pacers fell behind 3-2 in the Eastern Conference finals. “I love what we’ve been able to accomplish in the lockout season (of 2011-12) and this full season. And I just pretty much love how this group has grown together since I’ve been there.’’

West has not yet engaged in talks with Indiana officials about re-signing.

“I don’t think we can officially,’’ said West of the free agency period starting July 1. “But these guys know that I’m with them (for the future).’’

LeBron Believes He's Not A Flopper, Sees Advantages In It

May 28, 2013 1:29 PM

LeBron James has denied he is a flopper, but he believes that it is a useful strategy.

"Some guys have been doing it for years, just trying to get an advantage," James said on Monday. "Any way you can get an advantage over the opponent to help your team win, so be it."

The Miami Heat, especially James, and the Indiana Pacers appear to have opposite views on flopping.

"I think it's well documented. I'm not for flopping," Frank Vogel said.

"It happens," Dwyane Wade said. "We would have no NBA possibly if they got rid of all the flopping."

Vogel: Miami Has Toughest Offense To Prepare For In NBA

May 28, 2013 11:35 AM

The Indiana Pacers had one of the NBA's best defenses during the regular season, but struggled to contain the Miami Heat in Game 3 on that end of the floor.

“It’s probably the most difficult offense to prepare for in the NBA,” Frank Vogel said. “That’s the challenge we have ahead of us. I have great confidence in our ability to make up for the areas we were lacking in (Sunday).”

Udonis Haslem helped the Heat space the court by hitting from the mid-range.

“When they have us spread out, it’s a little harder to contain, especially when they go small (and) have five guys at the 3-point line,” David West said. “Basically it opens the free throw line all the way down to the baseline. For us, we have to stay the course, rely on our ability to make teams shoot contested 2-point shots. We have to contain the dribble a little bit better and we can’t overreact.”

Hibbert Credits MMA Training For Improved Conditioning

May 27, 2013 12:43 PM

Roy Hibbert has become a vastly improved player since coming into the NBA, at least partially due to his conditioning.

Hibbert has added MMA training into his offseason routine over the past few years.

"It pushed me to my limit sometimes," said Hibbert. "We used to break things up, where we'd have 30 minutes of mitts, just punching. And then we'd do like a Cross Fit workout, where I may have to run on the treadmill, do some Burpees, do some pushups, do some ropes, do some wall getups, stuff like that. Or, like, get on the ground, and have to get up with somebody on top of you. It's just mentally fatiguing, and it strengthens you a lot more. Last game [Game 2], I'm, at the free-throw line, and I'm obviously tired, and I hear fans in the Miami section saying, 'Hey, Roy, you're bending over, you're looking tired, looking tired.' I'm like, this is nothing compared to what I did during the summer. During Game 6 of the Knicks series, I'm exhausted. I'm bending down in the timeout, 20-second timeout, basically on the ground. I'm exhausted. And the next play out, I get that block. It's just trying to be resilient. We need to get further. So that's what was on my mind."

Raptors Request Permission To Interview Kevin Pritchard

May 24, 2013 5:34 PM

The Toronto Raptors have requested permission to interview Kevin Pritchard for their general manager opening, according to sources.

The Indiana Pacers do not want to allow interviews until the season ends. They are currently down 1-0 to the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals.

One of the possibilities that the Raptors have identified is teaming Pritchard with Oklahoma City assistant GM Troy Weaver.

Hibbert: I Need To Start Talking Up More

May 23, 2013 12:38 PM

Frank Vogel decided to leave Roy Hibbert on the bench in two key defensive plays late in the Indiana Pacers' overtime loss to the Miami Heat in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals.

Hibbert is one of the NBA's best rim protectors, but struggles to defend the perimeter. Vogel was concerned that guarding Chris Bosh on the perimeter would negate Hibbert's usefulness at the basket. Nevertheless, the Pacers would surely prefer to be beat on a jumper than a LeBron James' layup.

"I've grown as a player, this is my fifth year and maybe I need to start talking up more," Hibbert told Yahoo! Sports. "They pay me [max-contract money] for a reason.

"I didn't say anything, and I wish I did. From now on, I need to speak up."

Vogel admitted after the game that he will almost certainly not make the same mistake again in the series.

"I would say we'll probably have him in next time," Vogel said.

The Los Angeles Clippers are interested in signing David West this offseason.

The Clippers will have to entice West with the $5.15 million midlevel exception available to teams that are non-taxpayers.
