Pacers Likely To Stick With Roy Hibbert As Starter But Considering Change

Apr 25, 2014 11:07 AM

Frank Vogel is reportedly thinking about bringing Roy Hibbert off the bench, but said Thursday night that the Indiana Pacers are probable to keep the center in the starting five.

"We'll see. Probably," Vogel said. "We'll look at everything. I can't say (he's starting in Game 4) for right now. But I do have confidence in Roy Hibbert. I do have that. He hasn't played well in this series to this point, but I do have great confidence in him.

"We're not going to quit on him. We're going to keep trying to figure it out.''

Hibbert has averaged 6 points and 4.7 rebounds in the first three games of the Pacers' first round series against the Atlanta Hawks.

Hibbert has a PER of -1.20 in the playoffs, compared to 25.0 in the Eastern Conference Finals against the Miami Heat last season.

Kevin Pritchard Tweets 'Vogel's Job Is Safe'

Apr 24, 2014 11:42 AM

Amid reports that Frank Vogel may be coaching for his job this postseason, the Indiana Pacers used a strange method to shoot down rumors.

Pacers general manager Kevin Pritchard tweeted the following on Thursday morning: "Larry Bird just told me his sources say Frank Vogel's job is safe."

Pritchard, of course, works under Bird and is Vogel's boss.

The Pacers will take on the Atlanta Hawks in Game 3 of their first round series on Thursday night in Atlanta.

Hibbert Was Referring To Stephenson In 'Selfish Dudes' Comment

Apr 23, 2014 12:37 PM

Roy Hibbert's comment in late March about "some selfish dudes in here" was a reference to Lance Stephenson, according to sources.

Stephenson has had a vastly improved season and is one of Larry Bird's favorite players on the roster, but he has also had confrontations with George Hill and Evan Turner.

Hill and Stephenson had to be separated on the Pacers' bench during a March 31 loss to the San Antonio Spurs.

Turner and Stephenson had a fightfight during practice on the eve of the playoffs.

Frank Vogel 'Coaching For His Job' In Playoffs

Apr 23, 2014 12:33 PM

Frank Vogel is "coaching for his job" despite a 56-win season, according to sources.

The Indiana Pacers began the season with a 40-11 record, but went just 16-15 during the rest of the season.

Larry Bird will ultimately make the decision about Vogel at season's end.

During the last week of the regular season, though, Bird told local ABC affiliate WRTV-6 that "I back Frank 100 percent."

Vogel received a two-year extension during the 12-13 season that keeps him under contract through 14-15.

Chris Broussard reports that the Pacers have missed the locker room presence of Brian Shaw, who often played the role of "bad cop" to keep the locker room from imploding.

Stephenson, Turner Had Fistfight At Practice Before Playoffs

May 13, 2014 5:59 PM

Lance Stephenson and Evan Turner allegedly had a practice-floor fistfight before the start of the playoffs.

Confrontations between teammates occur somewhat frequently in the NBA and it is not a surprising event for the Indiana Pacers given their second half struggles.

"This stuff happens, but the timing wasn't ideal," one witness told Yahoo Sports.

Stephenson and Turner have struggled on the floor since the deadline trade with the Philadelphia 76ers.

Andrew Bynum will sit out the Indiana Pacers' first round series against the Atlanta Hawks, which begins on Saturday.

Frank Vogel said the longer the Pacers last in the playoffs, the more odds increase for Bynum to rejoin the team on the court. Bynum has dealt with continued knee issues.

Bynum has played two games since signing with the Pacers, averaging 11.5 points and 9.5 rebounds in 18 minutes.
