Alex Poythress has agreed to a partially guaranteed contract with the Indiana Pacers.

Poythress will likely spend the season with the Pacers’ NBA Development League affiliate in Fort Wayne.

An athletic small forward who can guard his position well, Poythress played for the Orlando Magic during summer league in July.

Larry Bird again wants the Indiana Pacers to play at a faster pace this season.

Bird and the Pacers hired Nate McMillan, who has historically coached slower paced teams.

"We want a style where we can score," Bird said. "I'd like to score 105 points a game or maybe 106, but still defend the way we have.

"Nate's got over 900 games that he's coached in the NBA and he's got a style...I think he’s going to do an excellent job for us."
