Paul Pierce Likely To Retire If Clippers Win 2016 Title

Sep 26, 2015 3:21 PM

Paul Pierce will likely retire if the Los Angeles Clippers win the 2016 NBA championship.

Pierce signed a three-year, $10 million deal with the Clippers this past offseason to reunite with Doc Rivers in his hometown of Los Angeles.

"If we win this year -- win a championship -- I'll probably be done with basketball, just to be honest," Pierce said at Clippers media day Friday. "It would be a dream -- to be home, to be able to carry the championship trophy down Manchester Boulevard -- it would be a dream come true. I'm excited for this moment."

After 15 seasons with the Boston Celtics, Pierce is now with his third team in as many seasons.

Doc Rivers: Losing DeAndre Jordan Was My 'Front-Office Wake-Up Call'

Sep 24, 2015 1:20 PM

Doc Rivers admits losing DeAndre Jordan to the Dallas Mavericks was a "wake-up call" for how he approaches front office responsibilities.

"Losing him would've always gnawed at me," Rivers told Yahoo Sports. "But it wouldn't have stopped me. I would've said, 'F--- that, we're going to figure out a way to get this right.' But it also triggered something else for me. It might have been my front-office wake-up call. I was not a pleasant guy to me, or my staff, after I thought we lost him – and even after we got him back. We had a lot of 'come-to-Jesus' meetings.

"I told them, and told myself: 'We've got to get f------ better. I don't care if we don't like how this was done, or we thought there was some injustice. We didn't get him. We've got to be f------ better.'

"And we rolled up our sleeves, and we got better. Listen, maybe it's because when we got here, the team was pretty good and we didn't think we had to get that much better. I don't know why. At end of the day, even the way D.J. did it, it turned out to be a blessing for our franchise. For me, it made me understand fully, 'We've got to do this f------ right, and build this team. It's our responsibility.'

"For our team, it probably fast-forwarded something that would've had to start to happen next week in training camp. … The communication."

The Los Angeles Clippers ultimately re-signed Jordan after he rescinded his agreement with the Mavericks.

Mark Cuban: Doc Rivers' Professional Life Was Over If He Didn't Get DeAndre Jordan

Sep 23, 2015 11:33 AM

Mark Cuban was asked to respond to comments from Doc Rivers in which he expressed the sentiment that Cuban didn't handle the DeAndre Jordan situation very well.

“It shows you what someone will do when their entire future is vanishing in front of them," said Cuban. "His professional life was over if he didn’t get DJ. He did what he needed to do.”

Jordan backed out of his agreement in the offseason with the Dallas Mavericks to re-sign with the Los Angeles Clippers.

Sep 12, 2015 6:38 PM

Jamal Crawford's name has appeared in trade rumors throughout the offseason, but Doc Rivers said he intends to keep him.

"I've heard all the rumors about Jamal going other places," Rivers said. "Jamal's a Clipper and I would be very surprised if he's not a Clipper by the season's end."

Fred Roggin of The Beast 980 asked him again: "You're planning on keeping him right now?"

"Yeah," Rivers responded. "Yeah. Absolutely."

Gillian Zucker Reportedly Creating Divisions Within Clippers

Sep 8, 2015 2:47 PM

The Los Angeles Clippers have had issues of "dysfunction" within their franchise, according to a Tweet from Bill Simmons.

TMZ reported that the issues center around Gillian Zucker, the Clippers' president of business operations.

Zucker was the first major hire by Steve Ballmer and several players and key staffers believe she's infringing on Doc Rivers' area of the team and also creating a divide.

Zucker has become involved in areas like player development and playing time decisions.

"This is the first I've heard of this," said Zucker. "I think the lines between [basketball and business] are very clear."

Simmons also indicated that over 10 longtime employees were fired or quit because of Zucker, while she's also had issues with the Clippers' sponsors and the NBA itself.

The Los Angeles Clippers are in the planning stages of having a team mascot.

They are unlikely to have the mascot ready for opening night, but they hope to have it in place by the All-Star break.
