Adelman Not Looking Back On Lakers' Interview

Jan 30, 2012 10:29 AM

Rick Adelman was a candidate for the Lakers' head coaching job this offseason, but they eventually went with Mike Brown and he is now coaching the Timberwolves.

"I don't think about it that much," Adelman said. "That was a long, long time ago and it was just a conversation we had. I never look back at something like that."

Adelman shared his insight into some of the reasons why the Lakers have struggled to start the season.

"I think they're just trying to adjust," he said. "They're not unlike a lot of other teams. Some teams kind of hit the skids sometimes when they go on the road and the schedule becomes real difficult.

"But if you ask around, you find out they're still considered one of the top four teams in the West. I don't care what their record is. I just know the players they have."

Gasol Wants To Get Closer To Bucket, Would Like To Discuss Situation With Brown

Jan 23, 2012 10:57 PM

Pau Gasol wants to get back to operating offensively close to the basket.

"I would like to get a little more inside, myself," Gasol said after scoring only eight points in a 98-96 loss to the Indiana Pacers. "I always like to have different looks and be able to attack from different angles, and in the second half I didn't have one chance to attack from the post."

Gasol has often positioned by Mike Brown outside the lane in his offense, occasionally requiring Gasol to drift near the three-point line.

Gasol was asked if he wanted to talk strategy with Brown.

"I would like to," Gasol said. "I think it's smart. Orlando did it to us, [Indiana] has done it to us, going inside. You pick teams apart when you have good inside players and we have two pretty good inside players on this team that can do a lot of damage."

Lakers Continue To Struggle With Offense

Jan 23, 2012 11:30 AM

The Lakers lost to the Pacers 98-96 on Sunday, which was the 11th consecutive game where they failed to score at least 100 points. It is their worst streak since doing it 12 times during the 03-04 season.

"We've had a loaded schedule here to start, so hopefully that had something to do with our poor shooting," said Kobe Bryant. "I think some of the guys just need time off just to get their legs back."

Pau Gasol only scored eight points, the second time he has done so in four games.

"I did notice that he's out on the floor ... a lot further away from the basket," said former Lakers assistant coach Brian Shaw, who returned as a member of the Indiana coaching staff.

"If you have the two big guys, that's always been the strength of this team. You want your biggest guys closest to the basket. Sometimes Pau is out around the three-point line, so I think maybe it's just going to take him a little time to get adjusted to the new places he is on the floor."

Source: Williams' Future With Nets Completely Tied To Howard

Jan 20, 2012 4:13 PM

Deron Williams' would prefer to remain with the Nets, but that appears to be predicated on the team's ability to acquire Dwight Howard, say sources.

Williams will sign a new deal with the Nets if Howard ends up joining him in Brooklyn.

The Mavericks, the Knicks and the Lakers would be his preferred options if he leaves the Nets, according to sources close to the situation.

If Howard is traded to another team that he plans on re-signing with, the Nets will begin to explore a trade of Williams, according to a source.

Bryant: Lakers Offense 'Under Construction'

Jan 20, 2012 10:46 AM

Kobe Bryant said the Lakers’ offense is more than just a work in progress.

"It's under construction. Still working on the blueprints actually," Bryant said after a 98-87 loss to Miami, adding that the process "feels strange."

"He (Mike Brown) has to see what he has. He knows what he has with me but he needs to see what some of the other guys can do and what they can't do.

"The only time he can see that is during a game," he added.

Brown agreed that there was plenty of work to do on offense.

"We still don't have a good feel in terms of second and third options," he said. "We are not quite there yet and against better defensive teams it really shows."

Lakers, Magic Haven't Recently Discussed Howard Trade

Jan 20, 2012 10:29 AM

The Lakers and Magic haven’t had any recent discussions about Dwight Howard, according to a person familiar with the teams' thinking.

However, one person in the Lakers' organization has been talking to Howard.

Kobe Bryant has had at least one in-depth phone conversation with Howard recently, even discussing how Howard might fit in with the Lakers' scheme.

One person with knowledge of the conversation said Howard came away feeling as if he wouldn't be the Lakers' top option, since it remains Bryant's team.
