The Thunder made a business decision when trading James Harden nine months ago. Now, they need to be just as cold-blooded with Scott Brooks. Brooks has consistently left points on the board in each of the last three seasons and has shown no ability to learn from his mistakes. Read More. Written by Jonathan Tjarks on May 17, 2013

The Los Angeles Lakers have extended qualifying offers to forward Devin Ebanks and guard Darius Morris, making them both restricted free agents.
A second year player out of West Virginia, Ebanks was selected by the Lakers in the second round (43rd overall) of the 2010 NBA Draft. The 6-9 forward appeared in 24 games (12 starts) with the Lakers last season, averaging 4.0 points, 2.3 rebounds and 0.5 assists in 16.5 minutes.
Selected by the Lakers in the second round (41st overall) of the 2011 NBA Draft, Morris appeared in 19 regular season games for the Lakers last season, averaging 2.4 points and 1.1 assists in 8.9 minutes.
Mitch Kupchak said he would continue to pursue trades during the offseason.
"We'll try to hit a home run,” he said. “The draft is the beginning of the offseason. You continue to pursue trade possibilities and then (Saturday), you pursue trades and free agency."
Kupchak believes the Lakers can still contend for the title.
"I think if this group is kept intact, and we've got some work to do with existing free agents, I don't see why we can't be in the hunt next year," he said. "All you want in this league is a chance to be in the hunt. If you're one of five or six teams at the end of the year that have that feeling, that, 'Yeah, we can do this. We're playing our best basketball.' That's all you can hope for."
Ramon Sessions opted out of his $4.55 million player option with the Lakers for the 12-13 season, but the two sides may still reach an agreement on a multi-year deal.
Mitch Kupchak said he plans on reaching out to Sessions' representatives Saturday at 9 p.m., which officially marks the beginning of free agency.
"That's important," Kupchak said. "Normally nothing is determined. But it's a sign you have some interest."
The Lakers made several attempts to move into the first round in Thursday's draft, targeting both Jared Sullinger and Perry Jones III.
Both players fell further than many anticipated and were selected by the Celtics and Thunder respectively.
"To get into the first round, it's not that easy to do without pledging substantial assets," Mitch Kupchak said. "To some degree, it was a challenge to look for something that was fair to do."
The Cavaliers owned the Lakers' first round pick, which was used on Jared Cunningham in a prearranged trade with Dallas. Jones would have been picked by the Lakers had they retained it.
The Lakers are not amongst the teams interested in signing Brandon Roy, according to a source.
Los Angeles is skeptical Roy will consistently stay healthy and using a slot on him would prove too risky when they have so many other depth issues already.
