Matt Barnes: Doc Rivers Never Wanted Me

Oct 23, 2015 12:11 PM

Matt Barnes is looking forward to play against Doc Rivers and the Los Angeles Clippers.

"I can't wait to play against Doc Rivers," said Barnes.

Barnes had wanted to finish his career with the Clippers, but he realized it would be unlikely after they hired Doc Rivers.

"Doc never wanted me," he said. "He couldn't wait to get rid of me. Doc and I never saw eye to eye. He tried to get me out of there the second he got there, so it wasn't too surprising to me what happened when things went south."

Rivers felt like he needed an upgrade at small forward and he acquired Lance Stephenson while signing Paul Pierce.

"I was the first trade of the summer," said Barnes. "Like I said, he couldn't wait."

James is the pick at small forward by 89.3 percent of GMs, ahead of Kevin Durant at 8.9 percent and Kawhi Leonard at 1.8 percent.

James also received 7.1 percent of the vote at power forward, but it was Anthony Davis with the most at 82.1 percent. Blake Griffin also received 7.1 percent of the vote.

At shooting guard, James Harden was the choice of 79.3 percent of GMs, ahead of Klay Thompson with 10.3 percent.

Marc Gasol was voted best center in the NBA with 65.5 percent, ahead of DeMarcus Cousins at 13.8 percent.

Finally, Stephen Curry received 55.2 percent of the vote for the best point guard, ahead of Chris Paul at 24.1 percent and Russell Westbrook at 17.2 percent.

Curry, Harden, James, Davis and Gasol were also First Team All-NBA selections last season.

Matt Barnes Claims He Went To Check On Sons, Not Confront Derek Fisher

Oct 9, 2015 11:57 AM

Matt Barnes claims he went to his ex-wife's house to check on his six-year-old twin sons and not to confront Derek Fisher.

Barnes was at his home in Marina del Rey around 10 p.m. Saturday when he got a text from his son Carter that concerned him.

"I'm like, first of all, why are you still up? It's like 10 o'clock at night," Barnes said. "So I text back, 'I love you and I miss you too.' Then I FaceTimed him. I'm just like, 'Hey, what's up buddy?'

"Now, Carter is like the rambunctious one. He's always jumping off the walls. And when I saw his face, he was just sitting there, and I knew something was wrong. I was like, 'What's wrong, Carter?' and he shook his head, 'No.' Then he lays his head down on the couch, puts a pillow in front of his face and says, 'Mommy's friend Derek is here.'

"This wasn't a phone call. We were on FaceTime. I could see him and the look on his face."

The New York Post reported that Barnes texted a friend that he assaulted Fisher and took revenge on Govan.

“I kicked his ass from the back yard to the front room, and spit in her face,” the text read, according to the source.

"I can't believe people think I was some maniac driving 95 miles and listening to Tupac to go beat somebody up," Barnes said. "No. I live 15 minutes away, and I was going over to check on my kids because they seemed uncomfortable. That was my main reason for going over there."

Report: Matt Barnes Attacked Derek Fisher For Dating Ex-Wife

Oct 7, 2015 4:32 PM

Matt Barnes allegedly attacked Derek Fisher after he discovered the New York Knicks' coach is in a romantic relationship with his estranged wife.

Fisher has been dating Gloria Govan for "a few months." Fisher filed for divorce from his wife Candace in March.

When Barnes learned that Fisher was at his former home with Gloria, he drove 95 miles to LA to “beat the s–t” out of Fisher, according to sources.

“Derek was in Gloria’s backyard with about 10 people having a bonfire on Saturday,” said a source. “Derek’s separated from his wife and there’s a relationship with [Gloria].”

Barnes and Fisher were once teammates with the Los Angeles Lakers.

“Barnes was in Santa Barbara [at Memphis Grizzlies training camp] and heard that Fisher was in his house. He went crazy. He got in his car and went to the house and went after Fisher.”

A source close to Fisher confirmed the fight but said, “Matt came after Derek but he only had a few scratches … Derek’s not going to press charges, he’s going to let it go.”

The Knicks tweeted on Monday that Fisher was “not at practice due to personal reasons — expected back tomorrow.”
