Hudson Sought More Guaranteed Money From Cleveland's Contract Offer

Lester Hudson left the Cavaliers and signed with the Grizzlies this week following the expiration of his second 10-day contract.

Sources say Hudson didn't want to sign Cleveland's offer of a contract with a team option for 12-13 without more guaranteed money.

Teams are increasingly seeking two-year deals where the second-year is not fully guaranteed because it also becomes a trade chip.

Hudson To Sign With Grizzlies

The Grizzlies will sign Lester Hudson for the remainder of the season.

Hudson has a verbal agreement with Memphis.

Hudson will be eligible for the playoffs because he wasn't waived by the Cavaliers. Hudson's second 10-day contract with Cleveland expired on Wednesday.

Hudson was unable to come to terms with the Cavaliers on a contract for the rest of the season on Thursday.

Hudson averaged 12.7 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 24 minutes while shooting 39 percent from the field and 25 percent from 3-point range in 13 games for the Cavaliers.

Celtics Were Close To Trading Ray Allen To Grizzlies For Mayo

The Celtics had a deal with the Grizzlies at the deadline that would have centered around Ray Allen for O.J. Mayo and a draft pick.

Doc Rivers went so far as to tell Allen that he had been traded, but called again 20 minutes later to say the deal had fallen apart.

League sources say Danny Ainge was also working on a Paul Pierce to New Jersey trade for Mehmet Okur and a lottery pick.

Grizzlies Win 'Statement Game' Against Clippers

The Clippers and Grizzlies could meet in the first round of the playoffs, which made Monday's matchup an important test from the perspective of Rudy Gay.

Memphis hadn't defeated the Clippers this season before their 94-85 victory in which six players scored in double figures.

"We had no chance of winning the tiebreaker against them," said Gay. "We knew that, but we still wanted to beat them. It was a statement game. We know we can beat them. We knew that the first two games, we just didn't play well."
