Riley: Spoelstra Will Decide Whether To Play Up-Tempo Game Next Season

Jun 28, 2011 7:09 PM

Heat President Riley said moving toward a speed game is a philosophical decision left for organizational meetings with coach Erik Spoelstra.

"Erik and I have yet to really sit down and talk about the season and how everything went and where we can get better as a team," Riley said of reviewing the team's direction with LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. "I think the one thing that he and I have always had great rapport about is speed, quickness, athleticism, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera.

"And so, as we continue to move in that vein with LeBron and with Dwyane and with Chris, Mario (Chalmers), Joel Anthony and also Norris, there's a possibility that there'll be some thought about a change."

Eddy Curry Works Out For Heat

Jun 26, 2011 10:51 PM

A source familiar with the situation confirmed Sunday to the Sun Sentinel that veteran center Eddy Curry has been working with the Miami Heat in recent days, as the Heat look at free-agent options.

By league rules, teams cannot currently work out free agents who finished the season on an NBA roster.

Workouts of those types of free agents cannot begin until July 1, when a lockout is expected to be imposed, shutting down all league activity.

Doc Rivers: Criticism of LeBron Excessive

Jun 25, 2011 2:43 PM

LeBron James found an unlikely defender last week in Doc Rivers, the head coach of the Boston Celtics, long James' biggest rival.

When asked about the level of criticism LeBron received, Rivers was surprisingly sympathetic: "Some of it was self-inflicted, some of it inflicted by everyone else. After Game 3, someone asked LeBron, 'When are you going to step up'?. The problem is that he answered, when he should have said 'Go screw yourself'."

Miami Heat forward Mike Miller is recovering from surgery for a ruptured tendon in his left thumb.

Miller sustained a similar injury to his right thumb during the preseason, with the ensuing surgery sidelining him for two months and limiting his effectiveness for the balance of the season.

D'Antoni: Shumpert Capable Of Defending Rose, Wade, James

Jun 24, 2011 6:57 PM

Coach Mike D'Antoni raved about Iman Shumpert's shutdown skills, going so far as to say the New York Knicks' first-round pick could stay in front of three of the best players in the world.

"He has the athletic ability to guard a Derrick Rose or a Dwyane Wade or a LeBron James," D'Antoni said Friday.

"He had one of the best workouts that I've seen in a lot of years. He's a little bit of everything. He can play point, he can play the 2, he can guard some 3s. He's an exciting young man. His personality and his ability to work hard are big factors, and we're excited about having him."
