Dwyane Wade Was Fine Missing Playoffs In 2015 Since Winning Title Was Unrealstic

Nov 27, 2015 2:04 PM

The Miami Heat didn't reach the playoffs last season, which Dwyane Wade doesn't see as being much different than going out in the first or second round.

“If you’re not going to win a championship, that whole run through June sucks anyway,” Wade said earlier this season. “We weren’t going to win a championship last year, so it wouldn’t matter if we went out in the first round or April 17, when our last game was. That’s kind of what I think at this point in my career. I don’t play to get into the first round of the playoffs. We’re still a young team, together trying to grow. We have a lot of potential and we see that.”

The Heat have reloaded with the trade for Goran Dragic and the draft selection of Justise Winslow.

Bosh wants the Heat to return to the top of the NBA landscape.

“[LeBron] is there and he's going to be trying to get to the mountaintop every year. Why not us?” Bosh said. “We might as well challenge him and see what we can dig out of ourselves before our careers are over.”

Amar'e Stoudemire Taking Classes To Possibly Become Agent

Nov 24, 2015 12:30 PM

Amar'e Stoudemire is taking classes in contract negotiations and sports business, perhaps as a precursor to becoming an agent.

Stoudemire has long been represented by Happy Walters.

Stoudemire has played sparingly this season with the Miami Heat.

“I had a pretty strong 14-year career so far,’’ Stoudemire said. “Right now I’m taking it one day at a time, one season at a time. I don’t know how much time left I have as a player. I’m just cherishing the moment and try to develop the young guys.’’

Gerald Green Apologizes For Incident, Doesn't Discuss Details

Nov 14, 2015 6:53 PM

Gerald Green rejoined the Miami Heat on Saturday following a two-game suspension and said he was "ashamed" of the incident that led him to be hospitalized for several days.

Green declined to discuss specifics of the incident.

"I'm just trying to just get over this situation," Green said. "I can't apologize enough to the residents that lived in my building, my fans who supported me and definitely my family.

"That was a situation that I'm not proud of. But I'm ready to move forward. I'm ready to continue with the team's goals. I'm ready to be with my brothers."

The episode involved Green throwing a punch and being handcuffed.

"First off," he said, "I want to go ahead and say I'm deeply sorry. I want to apologize to the Miami Heat organization. I want to apologize to my family. And most important, I want to apologize to my fans for not being available for the games that I missed.

"I'm deeply saddened for what happened. But I'm ready to move on from it. I'm glad that Miami Heat organization had my back and I'm ready to move on from it."

"It was good to have him back to the gym, back working, back around the guys," Erik Spoelstra said. "The matter was handled internally and we're really to move on. It was a good day of work."

Gerald Green Punched Man During Incident

Nov 11, 2015 10:29 PM

Gerald Green punched a man and then was combative with paramedics to the point of needing to be handcuffed so he could be transported to a trauma center last week, according to a police incident report.

The man who was punched by Green did not wish to press charges.

Green's hospitalization and suspension had remained unexplained for several days.

According to the report, Green asked the front desk staff at the building where he was staying to call Miami Fire Rescue around 10:20 a.m. on Nov. 4. Green had blood on his hands, for reasons not made clear in the report.

Green then collapsed on the valet parking ramp.

When returning to the lobby with the help of a man who was trying to keep him in the area while paramedics responded, Green punched the main in the right eye.

Pat Riley Asked LaMarcus Aldridge To Re-Sign With Blazers, Sign With Heat In 2016

Nov 11, 2015 6:54 PM

Pat Riley received a meeting with LaMarcus Aldridge last July during free agency, but the Miami Heat didn't have the necessary cap space to sign him.

Riley's wish was for Aldridge to sign a one-year deal with the Portland Trail Blazers and sign with the Heat in 2016.

Riley's words actually went a long way toward validating the San Antonio Spurs' case instead of the Phoenix Suns.

“He told me, ‘You’re a good player, but you can be great,’” Aldridge told Yahoo. “I’ve had good seasons on my own, but to win, you’ve got to have other big-time guys with you. When you have other guys who are willing to take that sacrifice with you – maybe you all go from averaging 23-24 points to 18-19 points – and you can all do it together.

“He was saying, ‘Hey, you might have to take a lesser role, but at the end of the day, you want to be known as a champion. Champions have to do different things.’ He brought up Chris Bosh, how he was averaging 21 in Toronto, and came to Miami, and people tried to say he wasn’t important. He told me, ‘We don’t win any of those championships rings without him,’ [and] that [Bosh] wouldn’t trade those rings for anything.

“Eventually, it becomes a road in your career, whether you have to decide whether you want to keep having these crazy stats, or do you want to win a championship?”

The Spurs soon closed the deal with Aldridge after the Riley meeting.

“Yeah, the things [Riley] said were definitely more positive for me coming to San Antonio,” Aldridge said.

Goran Dragic Didn't Consider Leaving Heat For Lakers

Nov 11, 2015 12:22 PM

The Los Angeles Lakers initially viewed Goran Dragic as a free agent target but changed their mind when they fell in love with D'Angelo Russell.

The Lakers thought they could sign a frontcourt player in free agency.

"I didn’t think about it," said Dragic. "The Miami Heat came first and they offered a good deal. This was the right place for me and my family. It’s a winning culture here and they are doing an amazing job.”

The Heat re-signed Dragic to a five-year, $90 million contract.
