Heat, Hornets, Cavs Lead In 14-15 Trade Score; Bucks, Mavs Rank Last

Mar 26, 2015 1:28 PM

J.R. Smith has had the biggest Box Plus-Minus improvement of all the players traded this season as he's become a critical part of the Cleveland Cavaliers success following his arrival from the New York Knicks.

Smith had a -4.3 BPM with the Knicks and +3.4 with the Cavaliers for a difference of +7.7.

Enes Kanter ranks second with a +5.9 difference since arriving to the Oklahoma City Thunder from the Utah Jazz. The Jazz have also benefitted from his absence as it has given more minutes to Rudy Gobert.

Will Barton, Mo Williams, Anthony Tolliver, Ramon Sessions, Timofey Mozgov, Iman Shumpert, Tarik Black and Goran Dragic round out the top-10.

Overall, the Heat have the best Trade Score at 6.10, ahead of the Charlotte Hornets at 5.90 and Cavaliers at 5.10. The

Brandon Knight has had the biggest drop since being traded, going from +2.3 with the Milwaukee Bucks to -4.0 with the Phoenix Suns. The Bucks replaced Knight's +2.3 with a -2.0 from Michael Carter-Williams and they have struggled since the trade.

The Dallas Mavericks are also one of the losers of in-season trades as Rajon Rondo has struggled and they also lost the production of Brandan Wright.

The Bucks have the worst Trade Score at -4.30 with the Mavericks ranking next to last at -3.70.

"I don't know if I'm going to be able to play," Whiteside said. "We're going to see how it feels day-to-day, just see how long the stitches are in."

The injury occurred when he was trying to block a dunk attempt by Miles Plumlee.

Whiteside received 10 stitches and wore a protective bandage over his hand after the game.

Michael Beasley Taking On Mentorship Role For Hassan Whiteside

Mar 20, 2015 1:27 PM

Michael Beasley has been attempting to take on the role of mentor to Hassan Whiteside.

Whiteside has emerged as a productive big man after bouncing around the basketball world since leaving Marshall in 2010.

Beasley returned to the NBA in the middle of the season after playing in China.

“It's funny because everybody looks at me or not even me, looks at a troublemaker, and really wouldn't want him to hinder the success of anyone else,” Beasley said. “Then they look at a Dwyane Wade and then a LeBron James, well, that's the perfect guy to listen to. Well not always. Sometimes you want to listen to the guy that's been through some things, the guy that fell off the mountain and climbed back and really that's what Hassan needed. That's what I needed. That's what I had in UD (Udonis Haslem) my first couple years, somebody that didn't have the high road to take his whole career.”

Heat Sign Michael Beasley For Remainder Of Season

Mar 18, 2015 8:41 PM

The Miami Heat have signed forward Michael Beasley for the remainder of the season.

Beasley has appeared in 10 games with the Heat this season averaging 9.5 points, 3.9 rebounds and 22.9 minutes while shooting 42.4 percent from the field. He has scored in double-figures five times, including a season-high 18 points vs. Sacramento on March 7, and grabbed a season-high nine rebounds at Toronto on March 13.

Beasley, who was signed to a 10-day contract by the Heat on February 26 and then re-signed to a second 10-day contract on March 8, was originally drafted by Miami in the first round (second overall) in the 2008 NBA Draft. The six-year NBA veteran has appeared in 419 career NBA games (199 starts) averaging 13.2 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 24.8 minutes while shooting 45 percent from the field.

Wade Thinks Goran Dragic Fits Heat Long-Term

Mar 16, 2015 12:13 PM

The Miami Heat project to have a starting five of Goran Dragic, Dwyane Wade, Luol Deng, Chris Bosh and Hassan Whiteside next season assuming Dragic re-signs.

“That five is pretty good, if everyone’s healthy, but you need a little bit more than that,” Wade said. “I feel that it gives us a better opportunity than we had coming into this season, then you continue to add certain pieces if you can. If we come back next season healthy and everybody’s going, we still need to add a few pieces. We could be pretty good.”

The Heat need to add depth to their roster, but they perhaps do not need another star due to their acquisition of Dragic at the deadline.

“I think he fits with what we want to build and what we want to do in the future,” Wade said. “Personality-wise, I think he fits. I believe so, but that’s not my call. But I know the front office did a great job doing their homework before they made the move and they wouldn’t have made it if they didn’t think he was a long-term fit for us. I think we all like him.”

Pat Riley Calls Building Through Lottery 'Life Of MIsery'

Mar 12, 2015 11:28 AM

Pat Riley has managed to work with some of the best players of their generations during his stops with the Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks and Miami Heat.

Riley is fully aware that superstar players are necessary to compete for NBA titles.

He called these "very coherent thoughts and decisions that you make about getting stars. You've got to get great players. I've been around it my whole life."

"It doesn't take a rocket scientist to be able to see what it takes," Riley said, running through his experience playing with West and Baylor and Wilt Chamberlain, coaching against Larry Bird and Kevin McHale and Robert Parish, and so on. "If you can get three of those kinds of players and fill it out with some other good guys, then you might be ahead of the curve....So there are a lot of ways to skin a cat.

"For me, it's not through the draft, because lottery picks are living a life of misery. That season is miserable. And if you do three or four years in a row to get lottery picks, then I'm in an insane asylum. And the fans will be, too. So who wants to do that?"

Riley: LeBron Could Have Had Something Historic Over Next 5-6 Years With Heat

Mar 12, 2015 11:27 AM

Pat Riley felt that the Miami Heat were in the position he wanted them to be in despite losing in the 2014 Finals to the San Antonio Spurs, but LeBron James decided to return to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

"That was almost shocking to me that the players would allow that to happen. And I'm not just saying LeBron. I mean, the players, themselves, would allow them to get to a state where a guy would want to go home or whatever it is.

"So maybe I'm dealing with a contemporary attitude today of, 'Well, I got four years here, and I think I'll go up there for whatever reason I went.' You know, the whole 'home' thing, I understand that. But what he had here, and what he had developed here, and what he could have developed over the next five or six years here, with the same team, could have been historic. And usually teams from inside…"

Riley continued by referencing the Lakers.

"It would be like Magic and Kareem and [James] Worthy, they weren't going to go anywhere," Riley said. "They had come at a time when there were free agents. They weren't going to go. You think Magic was going to leave Kareem? You think Kareem was going to leave Magic? You think Worthy was going to leave either one of those guys, or [Byron] Scott or [Michael] Cooper? No, they knew they had a chance to win every year. And this team had a chance every year. So that was shocking to me that it happened. Now, could we have done more? Could they have done more?"
