Goran Dragic: Fifth Year Is 'Pretty Big' On Deal With Heat

Apr 22, 2015 2:54 PM

Goran Dragic has said he will give the Miami Heat an edge when he becomes a free agent in July.

Dragic will place value in the possible fifth season that the Heat can offer in a maximum contract.

"It's pretty big," Dragic said of securing such a fifth season. "Because every player wants to sign as long as he can. Of course, my goal is to stay in that spot that I'm going to sign."

While it is difficult to overlook an additional $30 million, Dragic said it also will be about more than money. The Los Angeles Lakers are expected to be among his suitors.

"I mean, of course every offer, we're going to go through," Dragic said. "But I think that the most important thing is the team, who is around me, what kind of style. Because, first of all, I want to be happy, happy to play that style of basketball that I want to play. And I think that's the main thing for now, not the money."

Dwyane Wade Undecided On $16M Option For 15-16

Apr 21, 2015 11:47 PM

Dwyane Wade said he is in no rush to decide on his player option for the 2015-16 season, worth about $16 million.

"I signed my deal the way I did for a reason ... and the organization did it for a reason," Wade said. "It's my option. I'll decide when the time is right. Everyone knows I always try to do what's best for the organization, but I also have to do what's best for Dwyane Wade as well."

Wade averaged 21.5 points on 47 percent shooting this season.

LeBron Never Told Heat To Draft Shabazz Napier

Apr 21, 2015 1:43 PM

LeBron James never told the Miami Heat directly he wanted them to draft Shabazz Napier last June.

Pat Riley made comments this week that the Heat are looking forward to having a different approach to the draft this year.

"No more smiling faces with hidden agendas," Riley said. "We'll be going in clean."

James never had a relationship with Napier, unlike many other college players he became friendly with from his annual Nike camps. James posted several Tweets admiring Napier's game.

Pat Riley On Draft: No More Smiling Faces With Hidden Agendas

Apr 20, 2015 12:08 PM

Pat Riley is looking forward to the 2015 NBA Draft one season after they picked Shabazz Napier with the hopes of re-signing LeBron James.

"No more smiling faces with hidden agendas, so we'll be going in clean," said Riley.

Riley was asked to clarify that comment.

"That could be anyone across the board," said Riley about who he was referencing.

Riley also insists, however, that the Miami Heat have moved on from the departure of James.

"We have all moved on from that standpoint."

Goran Dragic's Time With Heat Makes Free Agent Decision Easier

Apr 16, 2015 1:04 PM

Goran Dragic will be a free agent this summer after having the opportunity to see how he fits with the Miami Heat.

"The last two months, one month and a half, that I was here was beautiful for me," he said. "And I know we didn't make the playoffs, but that doesn't affect my decision. The teammates, they were great. I still think that the team has a bright future, the coaching staff, the organization."

Dragic said experiencing the Heat culture was beneficial in weighting his options.

"Of course it helps a little bit, because every team is different," he said. "The only team that I know how they're working is Phoenix, and that one year that when I was in Houston.

"And of course it's a great experience to see how the other teams are working, and, of course, in that case, with Miami Heat, I was here for two months, so of course that makes my decision easier."

The Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks were also on Dragic's list of preferred teams at the deadline.

Dwyane Wade Won't Get Involved In Heat Free Agency

Apr 16, 2015 1:00 PM

With the exception of the 2010 offseason, Dwyane Wade prefers not to be involved in the recruitment of players for the Miami Heat in free agency.

The Heat face free agent decisions this offseason with Goran Dragic and Luol Deng.

"If they want to be here, they'll be here," Wade said.

Wade leaves those decisions and that work to Pat Riley and the front office.

"I don't have a sense," Wade said of the path the Heat may take. "We don't talk about it. So I have no sense at all."

Luol Deng 'Loves' Heat Organization, Unsure About 15-16 Player Option

Apr 14, 2015 2:26 PM

Luol Deng has a $10.2 million player option with the Miami Heat next season.

Deng is unsure if he will exercise the option, but he has enjoyed his first season with the Heat.

“We’re talking about it early; I’m not thinking about it yet,” he said Monday. “We could go to Philly and win and the other teams lose and I’m here talking to you about opting in or opting out, then all of a sudden I’ve gotta get my mind right for the Atlanta series. I really don’t want to go there yet. When the season’s over and I sit down and relax, I can start thinking about that stuff.”

Deng has particularly been pleased with the medical staff of the Heat.

“I love this organization,” Deng said. “It’s been top-class and everything. I’ve had one of my healthiest years. It was never anything serious. I’ve felt great about the medical staff.

“When you’ve been in the league 11 years, as soon as you start putting mileage on your body, you want a group that knows your body and you’re comfortable with them. The organization has been great.”

Hassan Whiteside Eligible For Most Improved Player Of The Year

Apr 10, 2015 3:16 PM

Hassan Whiteside will be eligible for Most Improved Player of the Year consideration.

Whiteside was previously uncertain if he qualified for it.

The NBA clarified to the Sun Sentinel, "The only players who are not eligible are rookies and first-year players."

The ballot reads: "This award is designed to honor an up-and-coming player who has made a dramatic improvement from the previous season or seasons. It is not intended to be given to a player who has made a 'comeback.' Please vote for three players. Five points will be awarded for a first place vote, three for second and one for third."
