Dwyane Wade 'Closes Miami Chapter' With First Bulls' Win

Oct 28, 2016 1:36 PM

Dwyane Wade and the Chicago Bulls beat the Boston Celtics 105-99 in his debut with the franchise.

Wade hit his fourth three-pointer of the game to seal it for the Bulls.

“I closed the Miami chapter right there,” Wade told The Vertical inside an empty locker room late Thursday.

“I can’t focus over there anymore. I want those guys in Miami to be successful, but I’m motivated by greatness here. I’m motivated by doing what people think I can’t do, for sure. I had to make a decision, and I feel good about the decision I made.

“A lot of emotions hit me when I made that shot. I’m not here because I’m angry at [Pat Riley] or the Heat. There’s no anger. I’m happy because I got the freedom to look elsewhere. I got to look at home.”

Rodney McGruder Wins Final Miami Roster Spot, Beno Udrih Amongst Five Waived

Oct 22, 2016 8:17 PM

Rodney McGruder has beat out Briante Weber and Beno Udrih for the final spot on the regular season roster.

Weber and Udrih were waived along with Okaro White, Luis Montero and Vashil Fernandez. White Montero and Fernandez are expected to be assigned to Miami's D-League affiliate immediately if they're not claimed by another team.

Unless Udrih is claimed by another team by Monday at 5 p.m., the Heat will absorb a $980,000 cap hit, with Udrih to walk away with a guaranteed $1.6 million in salary. Udrih gave up $90,000 in salary last season when he was waived due to injury by the Heat, allowing the team to add Weber, Joe Johnson and Dorell Wright for the postseason roster.

According to Albert Nahmad, Udrih's $90,000 buyout last season wound up saving the Heat $1.8 million plus a year of tax avoided toward the repeater clock.

Weber received a $328,000 2016-17 guarantee from the Heat.

Goran Dragic Refutes Notion He's Unhappy With Heat

Oct 14, 2016 6:38 PM

Goran Dragic refuted the characterization that he's upset with his situation with the Miami Heat now that Dwyane Wade has left the team in free agency and Chris Bosh almost certainly won't play for the team again.

"You're right," was Dragic's reply for the David Aldridge story posted on NBA.com, continuing, "but the main thing is, I want to win games. Of course, I want to win the championship. But, how you say: you need to go one step back to go two steps forward."

Dragic cleared the air talking to the Miami media.

"That was miscommunicated," he said of how his words were taken by those other than Aldridge.

"He asked me that question: Didn't I sign to be part of a great team, championship team? I said, 'Yeah, of course.' Then I said sometimes your career, this is business, you cannot have every decision go the way you want it on your own. This is a team decision. Sometimes you need to do two steps back to go one step forward. I'm happy to be here. This is the team that I want to be here. But I understand this is business."

Wade: LeBron And I Liked Chicago Situation In 2010 Until Heat Could Also Fit Bosh

Oct 13, 2016 2:25 PM

Dwyane Wade said both he and LeBron James were interested in signing with the Chicago Bulls during the summer of 2010.

Wade said Chris Bosh changed the equation since the Miami Heat could accommodate the three of them.

"My eyes were here, LeBron's eyes were here," said Wade. "Miami put a monkey wrench in the plan when they could fit all 3 of us."

Wade said if the Bulls had traded away Luol Deng that summer, the trio could have joined a core of Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah.

LeBron James Wanted Cavs To Sign Dwyane Wade If Cap Space Were Available

Oct 13, 2016 10:48 AM

LeBron James confirmed he hoped the Cleveland Cavaliers would sign Dwyane Wade but that the team didn't have the means to sign him.

"We couldn't afford him," James said. "It's that simple."

James and Wade were teammates for four seasons with the Miami Heat and remain close friends.

Wade agreed upon a two-year, $47 million deal with the Chicago Bulls in the offseason. Cleveland could offer only the taxpayer midlevel exception, worth about $3.5 million.

"Who wouldn't be interested in a Hall of Famer?" Tyronn Lue said. "That don't even make sense. Yeah, we wanted him."
