Justise Winslow To Work With Heat Shooting Coach While Not With Team

Nov 30, 2016 4:13 PM

Justise Winslow will work with the shooting coach of the Miami Heat while he's left behind on their road trip to let his sore left wrist heal.

The Heat want Winslow to be ready in time for Monday's practice following an 11-game absence.

"It's going to be everything that we can to drill and do, a lot of conditioning, and hopefully get him ready for that Monday practice, when we come off this trip," Erik Spoelstra said before Wednesday night's game against the Denver Nuggets at the Pepsi Center. "Hopefully we'll have enough healthy bodies, where we can compete and go five-on-five that day."

Spoelstra said they're almost treating this time as a mini-training camp for Winslow.

Chris Bosh continues to pursue a return to the NBA despite his issues with blood clots.

Both and the Miami Heat remain at odds about his health and he is unlikely to play again for the franchise.

Pat Riley Regrets Not Signing Dwyane Wade To Max Contract In 2014

Nov 12, 2016 10:35 PM

Pat Riley said he regretted not signing Dwyane Wade to a maximum contract in 2014 when he was a free agent for the first time since 2010.

"Riley told me before the game that, if he had to do it over again, in the summer of 2014, after LeBron James left and went back to Cleveland, we should have given Wade a max deal as well as Chris Bosh, as the team did," David Aldridge said in a sideline report. "Riley told me, 'That was wrong. I should have, we should have given him that. That's a big second-guess, but that's on me.'"

Wade signed a two-year, $31.1 million deal with a player option for the second season after opting out of a more lucrative arrangement that would have paid him $42 million over two years.

Wade recouped some of that by opting out and signing a one-year, $20 million deal in 2015.

Wade left the Heat to sign with the Bulls this past offseason after they had a stalemate over his contract terms.

Goran Dragic Sprains Left Ankle, X-Rays Negative

Nov 11, 2016 10:39 AM

Goran Dragic was in a walking boot after a 98-95 Miami Heat loss to the Chicago Bulls on Thursday.

Dragic sprained his left ankle with 4:50 remaining in the third quarter while driving to the basket in transition.

The positive for Dragic and the Heat is the X-ray on his ankle came back negative.

“The X-ray is negative, so that’s a good sign,” Dragic said. “We’ll see how the ankle is going to be [Friday]. I twisted it, so it hurts right now. It’s just a precaution, that’s why I have a boot on.”

Dragic may have to miss some time with the injury.

Dragic injured his left ankle last season in March after tripping on referee Bill Kennedy, but he did not miss any time.

Ray Allen Didn't Expect To Retire After 2014 Finals

Nov 10, 2016 11:34 AM

Ray Allen officially announced his retirement two years after playing in his final game in June of 2014 with the Miami Heat.

Allen had interest in playing in 14-15, 15-16 and even this season if the right opportunity presented itself.

“After the 2014 Finals, I didn’t really think I was done and I thought there would be an opportunity,” Allen said. “Then, I was thinking I didn’t necessarily need or want to go to training camp. So I was going to wait and see if there was a team that made sense for me.

“That first year went by, and it didn’t make sense. There was nowhere I thought I could fit in. Coming into last year, I said, ‘Well, let’s see how it goes again. I started thinking, ‘Do I really want to do it? Do I want to be with my children? Or do I want to be away from my children?’ Then again, there wasn’t a situation that was worth it. Two years went by so quickly.”

Allen said the right situation would have been the opportunity to compete for a title, playing time and playing for a coach who doesn't wear players out with practices.

“If a team made me an offer I couldn’t refuse, then I would’ve looked at it more seriously,” Allen said. “The way that year shaped up, nobody was knocking on my door saying, ‘We would love to have you.’ If I’m going to play, I’m going to have to move. I would have to leave my family or move my family. I didn’t feel I want to do that.

“One of the biggest factors was for me not to go back was the simple fact that I won twice already. I believed going into the 14-15 season, if I hadn’t won a championship, then I would’ve been on somebody’s roster. I would’ve moved. I would’ve tried to make it work anyway possible.”

The Houston Rockets offered the full mid-level exception to Allen in 2014.

Dwyane Wade: If You're Not With Pat Riley, You're Against Him

Nov 9, 2016 2:06 PM

Dwyane Wade had a relatively simple perspective on his exit from the Miami Heat due to how well he's known Pat Riley.

“I know who Pat is. It’s no secret to me,” Wade said following Wednesday’s morning shootaround. “If you’re not with him, you’re against him. That’s just the way he is. You gotta understand that, man.

“I’m cool with it. I’m fine, 100 percent. I was there 13 years. I’ve seen a lot of video tributes. I’ve seen a lot of players come in and go out. And I’ve seen the way he has responded to them. And I know if you’re not with him, you’re against him.”

Wade will return to Miami for the first time on Thursday.

“I haven’t talked to him. Simple as that,” Wade said. “I think I’ve been very open and honest about my respect and love for Pat. But I’ve also been honest that I haven’t spoken to him since the season ended.”

Wade said he has communicated “with everyone else” in the organization.

Dwyane Wade Urges Heat Fans To 'Support The Future'

Nov 8, 2016 12:52 PM

Dwyane Wade realizes a lot of people may not understand why he left the Miami Heat in the offseason to sign with the Chicago Bulls.

Wade will play the Heat for the first time later this week.

"If you're not in this business, it's hard to understand," Wade said Monday. "But I don't even want them to understand -- I want them to appreciate what we accomplished together. I want them to cheer for their team that they have, support those players over there that's giving their all. Support the future of the organization and be thankful that we all was able to experience an unbelievable ride together. That's all you can do."

Wade signed a two-year, $47 million deal with the Bulls in the offseason after contract talks with the Heat stalled.

Wade said he doesn't know how he will be received in Miami by the fans.

"You never know," he said. "You never know how you're going to be received. But I did everything possibly right in my time there. So hopefully I'm received [for] what I've given to the franchise, organization. But at the same time you never know. You might hear a boo or something at some point. Everybody don't like you. You got to understand that. But I think overall it will be positive."
