Adelman Not Looking Back On Lakers' Interview

Jan 30, 2012 10:29 AM

Rick Adelman was a candidate for the Lakers' head coaching job this offseason, but they eventually went with Mike Brown and he is now coaching the Timberwolves.

"I don't think about it that much," Adelman said. "That was a long, long time ago and it was just a conversation we had. I never look back at something like that."

Adelman shared his insight into some of the reasons why the Lakers have struggled to start the season.

"I think they're just trying to adjust," he said. "They're not unlike a lot of other teams. Some teams kind of hit the skids sometimes when they go on the road and the schedule becomes real difficult.

"But if you ask around, you find out they're still considered one of the top four teams in the West. I don't care what their record is. I just know the players they have."

Wolves Visited Cryotherapy Clinic

Jan 28, 2012 1:41 PM

Several Timberwolves, including Kevin Love and Derrick Williams, visited a Dallas-area cryotherapy clinic to experience intense cold therapy, a procedure that subjects the body to four blasts of nitrous oxide followed by 3 minutes of temperatures as low as minus-166 degrees Fahrenheit.

Exposure to extreme cold has similar effects to that of an ice bath. Williams said he hopes the Wolves will get their own chamber within the next couple of weeks or month.

"The 3 minutes, that's all you've got to look forward to," Williams said. "An ice bath is 15 to 20 minutes. No one wants to sit in there that long."

Love also gives a nod to cryotherapy.

"You actually feel pretty refreshed when you get out of there," Love said.

Love Wants To See More Progress From Wolves

Jan 26, 2012 10:21 AM

Kevin Love said he will continue to play with a "chip on his shoulder" after not getting the five-year deal he wanted from the Wolves.

"The five years was something I felt very strongly about, but I can always extend on this deal when it's done," Love said. "I want to see where the organization is heading, and right now it's heading in the right direction. I just want to see how things improve."

Kevin Love has not not agreed to a contract extension with the Wolves and talks are ongoing, according to sources.

A report from the Pioneer Press earlier on Tuesday indicated that Love had agreed to a four-year, $62 million extension.

Beasley Expects To Become Restricted Free Agent

Jan 24, 2012 10:24 AM

Michael Beasley is eligible for an extension from the Wolves and shares the same agent with Kevin Love.

"It looks like it's going to go into summer," said Beasley, who will be a restricted free agent next summer if he doesn't sign an extension now. "I'm not worried about it. Everything will take care of itself. I just want to get back on the floor."

Beasley (sprained foot) isn't expected to play for another week.

Sources Differ On Minnesota's Offer To Love

Jan 24, 2012 10:09 AM

The Wolves are closing in on a five-year maximum contract deal that would pay Kevin Love more than $78 million, according to one source.

But another source said Minnesota hasn't moved from its four-year, $61 million offer.

The Star Tribune writes that even if a deal is reached, GM David Kahn "hasn't won any brownie points with Love in this negotiation."

Ainge: Cap Space More Valuable With New CBA

Jan 22, 2012 1:14 PM

The Celtics will be committed to just $34 million in salaries next season, which means they will have about $25 million to spend.

“I have always said cap space is a little overrated, but with the new collective bargaining agreement, cap space allows you more flexibility than it has in the past,’’ said Celtics general manager Danny Ainge.

The Celtics are believed to be monitoring contract negotiations with fourth-year free agents such as Kevin Love.

“Again, people look at cap space as an opportunity to go get a great player as a free agent," Ainge said. "But there really aren’t franchise-changing players in the free agent market - other than a couple of guys, and there will be a lot of teams vying for them.

“But it will be a different world than we’ve lived in the last four or five years, that’s for sure.’’

Adelman Wants Love's Contract Status Resolved

Jan 21, 2012 11:18 AM

Timberwolves coach Rick Adelman weighed in on Kevin Love’s desire for a maximum contract extension.

"From a coaching standpoint, it's really important," Adelman said. "He's crucial to us. I'm hoping that something is going to happen for his sake. He came out with a great start this season and, hopefully, they're going to come to some resolution. I don't know what would happen if it didn't come to fruition. That's something that we'd have to deal with at that time."

The Wolves have until Jan. 25 to sign Love to a four- or five-year deal expected to be worth $15 million a year or more.

"I'm hoping that between Glen and David and Kevin and his agent, they come to some resolution," Adelman said, referring to team owner Glen Taylor and president of basketball operations David Kahn. "It certainly would help him, which would help us."

Love Prefers Staying With Wolves, Enjoys Twin Cities

Jan 20, 2012 10:31 AM

The Wolves have until Jan. 25 to sign Kevin Love to an extension or he will become a restricted free agent after the season.

"We'll wait and see what happens," Love said. "But between now and the 25th something will happen. Either something will happen positive or something will happen negative."

Love was asked what would happen if no extension is signed.

"It wouldn't be ideal," Love said. "So it would be nice to work something out. I enjoy it here, I enjoy my teammates, I enjoy the coaching staff, I enjoy the Twin Cities, even when it's cold.

"I figure if I keep playing my game, playing hard-nosed basketball, playing the way I'm supposed to play, everything will take care of itself."
