Timberwolves Desire To Add Veteran Presence To Young Core

Apr 29, 2012 3:29 PM

Rick Adelman stressed the importance of adding veteran talent to the Timberwolves’ young core.

Adelman believes the lure of playing with Ricky Rubio and Kevin Love could be enough to attract top-level free agents to Minnesota.

"There's not a player I've talked to or any person around the league who was not impressed with Ricky," Adelman said. "It's the vibe he puts out. Players love to get the ball when they're supposed to, and he does that. And who would believe Kevin scores and rebounds the way he does? Because of those two guys, it makes us attractive. I don't see any reason anybody would not want to play with them."

The Wolves will be at least $11 million under the salary cap this summer.

"There are a couple of (player) contracts that have some flexibility built into them," general manager David Kahn said. "We have options. If we want to have cap room, we can have room. No question about it."

Darko Milicic, due $10.8 million over the final two years of his contract, is a likely amnesty candidate.

Rubio Unsure If He'll Be Ready For Training Camp

Apr 10, 2012 4:54 PM

Ricky Rubio is back in Minnesota after spending more than two weeks in Colorado following his knee surgery to repair two torn ligaments.

Rubio isn't sure if he'll be ready for the start of training camp.

"I don’t if it will be training camp, don’t know when I’ll come back," said Rubio. "The most important thing is to make sure when I come back it's 100 percent. I don’t know if it's training camp, I don’t know if it's first week, second week (of regular season). I don’t want to put a date. It depends how my knee feels."

Rubio was asked if he is worried about coming back a different player.

"Of course, you always think in my mind what can happen, especially the first couple days after surgery when you can't move your knee. You just think about it, think about if you can come back. You just have to be strong and do your best to come back even harder. I love basketball. I love playing basketball. I'm going to do my best.

Rubio anticipates a recovery timeline of six to nine months.

"The doctor said that he put nine months and everything that we take more is good. I don't know, it depends on the knee.  Everybody has knee injuries, not everybody answers the same surgery the same thing. I have four weeks now to take off these crutches that I start hating them. We will see."
