Love: Taylor Should Focus On How He 'Got A Lot For Me'

Aug 27, 2014 12:42 PM

As Kevin Love was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers, Minnesota Timberwolves' owner Glen Taylor told a local radio station that his issues on defense and staying healthy may be an issue for his new team.

"I think where maybe he got away with some stuff not playing defense on our team, I'm not sure that's how it's going to work in Cleveland," Taylor said on ESPN Radio 1500 AM in the Twin Cities on Tuesday. "I would guess they're going to ask him to play more defense, and he's foul-prone.

"I question Kevin if this is going to be the best deal for him, because I think he's going to be the third player on the team," Taylor added. "I don't think he's going to get a lot of credit if they do really well. I think he'll get blame if they don't do well. He's around a couple guys that are awful good."

Love responded to the comments on Wednesday, one day after saying he thought his relationship with Taylor was a positive one.

"I think emotions are definitely running high right now," Love told "Mike & Mike." "For Glen to say that, I just think that he should be focusing on the players that he just received. I mean, he has two of the No. 1 picks in the last two drafts: Andrew Wiggins and Anthony Bennett. He has another guy who can really play in Thaddeus Young."

"I think he got a lot for me. So I'd be focusing even more on that. More than anything, I'm just excited to start my time in Cleveland, get to work with my new teammates, and start with this new family here."

Kevin Love Immediately Wanted To Play For Cavs After Call From LeBron

Aug 26, 2014 7:20 PM

Kevin Love wanted to join the Cleveland Cavaliers immediately after he received a call from LeBron James about the possibility of playing together.

"LeBron signed to come back and a few hours later he called me and I said 'I'm in,' " Love said Tuesday at a news conference. "That had a lot to do with my decision. It means a lot to be a part of this organization ... everything in my entire life for the last six years had led me up to this opportunity."

Love said Tuesday he currently has no plans to sign an extension with the Cavs. Love signed a four-year, $61 million extension in 2012, but the 2016-17 season, worth $16.7 million, is a player option. Love is also not planning to pick up that option either and will play out the final year of his contract with the Cavs.

Love did say he plans to be with the team long-term.

"[An extension] hasn't been talked about," Love said. "I'm committed to this team and committed long term to the end goal, which is to win a championship."

The Cavaliers pursued Love even months before James re-signed.

"This is culmination of a year and a half of conversations to trade for [Love]," Cavs general manager David Griffin said. "This is a player that, quite frankly, fits us as well as any player could have. LeBron makes a great deal of these things possible by his presence alone. That piece had a great deal to do with Kevin's comfort with joining us. Hopefully we'll (have) him for a very long time."

Love withdrew from Team USA on July 26 while the team was training in Las Vegas.

Cavaliers Acquire Kevin Love, Send Andrew Wiggins, Anthony Bennett To Timberwolves In Three-Team Deal

Aug 24, 2014 12:45 PM

The Cleveland Cavaliers have acquired forward Kevin Love in a three-team trade that sends guard Andrew Wiggins and forward Anthony Bennett to the Minnesota Timberwolves and Miami's protected 2015 first round pick to the Philadelphia 76ers.

As part of the three-team trade, Minnesota will also acquire forward Thaddeus Young from the 76ers, while Philadelphia receives forward Luc Mbah a Moute and guard Alexey Shved from the Timberwolves.

“Kevin joining the Cavaliers represents a very special and unique opportunity for our team. At only 25, Kevin has already firmly established himself as one the NBA’s elite players and his talent, versatility and fit are major parts of our team’s vision for success," David Griffin said in a statement. “We want to also wish Andrew Wiggins and Anthony Bennett the best as they will continue the start of their careers in Minnesota. They are both outstanding young men that have great potential on the court and long, very successful careers ahead of them.”

Suns Made Last Ditch Bid For Love With Offer Of Eric Bledsoe

Aug 22, 2014 10:08 PM

The Phoenix Suns inquired with the Minnesota Timberwolves about a possible deal for Kevin Love just hours before an anticipated deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers is scheduled to become official.

The Suns are offering Eric Bledose in a sign-and-trade agreement.

The Cavaliers and Wolves have had an agreement in place on Love for weeks, and it remains intact, sources said.

Bledsoe has been seeking a five-year, $85 million max contract and would consider only a max deal in a sign-and-trade, which would be four years and $64 million.

Bledsoe is prepared to play for the Suns under the one-year, $3.7 million qualifying offer.

The Suns offered Bledsoe a four-year, $48 million contract similar to what Kyle Lowry received from the Toronto Raptors.

Wolves To Acquire Young From 76ers For Mbah a Moute, Shved, Miami's 1st Rounder

Aug 22, 2014 12:27 AM

The Minnesota Timberwolves will trade Luc Mbah a Moute, Alexey Shved and the first round pick in 2015 belonging to the Miami Heat to the Philadelphia 76ers for Thaddeus Young.

Mbah a Moute's value to the 76ers, at least in part, comes from his close relationship with Joel Embiid.

There had been speculation that Anthony Bennett would be traded to the 76ers, but he will stay with the Wolves following his trade from the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Wolves May Keep Anthony Bennett

Aug 21, 2014 11:58 AM

Anthony Bennett has been linked to the Philadelphia 76ers as part of the long-anticipated Kevin Love deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers, but he may be staying with the Minnesota Timberwolves after all.

The Wolves have reportedly been interested in flipping Bennett for Thaddeus Young from the 76ers.

Beat writer Jerry Zgoda reports that Bennett will stay with the Wolves.

"Just a reminder: if you keep reading Bennett is headed to Philly for Young in forthcoming trade...don't believe it," wrote Zgoda.

Bill Self: Cavs' Trade Will Really Motivate Andrew Wiggins

Aug 10, 2014 1:56 PM

Bill Self believes the pending move from the Cleveland Cavaliers to the Minnesota Timberwolves will be best for Andrew Wiggins.

“I know Andrew,” Self said, “and this is the type of thing that really motivates him, the fact that someone else -- even though it’s a business -- didn’t want him as badly as they should have.’’

“That’s the way he sees it. He’s happy. Don’t anybody feel sorry for him. I’m not saying he hasn’t been in limbo and that it hasn’t, at times, been frustrating. But he told me, ‘Coach, I’m good with this.’ He told me that two weeks ago.’’

Self coached Wiggins for his lone season at Kansas.

The Timberwolves will allow Wiggins to be the main cog instead of a role player on the contending Cavaliers.

“I would love to be at that first game they play against Cleveland,” Kansas assistant Kurtis Townsend said. “He’s going to put on a show.’’

Cavs Granted Permission To Speak To Love, No Deal In Place For New Contract

Aug 9, 2014 12:53 AM

The Cleveland Cavaliers were granted permission by the Minnesota Timberwolves to speak directly to Kevin Love last month in an introductory fashion, according to sources.

LeBron James has also been in contact with Love for several weeks about their long-term intentions of playing together.

The Cavaliers and Wolves have agreed upon a trade that will become official in late August when Andrew Wiggins is eligible to be traded.

Sources insist no agreement for Love to sign a new contract with the Cavaliers next summer is in place. An agreement would be illegal under CBA rules, so the NBA could block the trade while also handing down punishment to both the Cavaliers and Wolves.

Sources confirmed to ESPN.com that the Cavs and Love can make no such arrangements about the future, even verbally, without violating salary cap circumvention rules in the league's collective bargaining agreement.

Love has let it be known that he would like to play alongside James for as long as the latter is on the Cavaliers.

Love has an option in his current Wolves contract for the 2016-17 season for $16.7 million that he could permissibly pick up as part of the trade. But sources say Love has been adamant about becoming a free agent in July 2015.
