K-Mart Back To Jersey?

May 22, 2006 6:04 AM

According to a report published in the New York Daily News, two Nets sources said the team has and will continue to discuss whether obtaining Kenyon Martin this summer is realistic and feasible.

The Nets signed and traded Martin to Denver in July 2004 for three future first round picks after refusing to give him a maximum contract.  He is still owed $70 million over the next five seasons.

Nets president Rod Thorn says he does not want to trade Jason Kidd, Vince Carter, Richard Jefferson or Nenad Krstic unless a superstar comes back in return.

LeBron's Nike Deal To Double In New York, Chicago Or Los Angeles

May 20, 2006 8:39 AM

Rob Parker of the Detroit News reports that if LeBron James does not re-sign an extension with the Cavaliers this summer, he will leave the club and sign with the Nets after the 2008 season.

James' $100 million deal with Nike doubles if he plays in Chicago, L.A. or New York.

Cleveland papers reported earlier in the week that the chances of James signing an extension this summer have increased because of the Cavaliers' strong playoff performance.

Jeff McInnis, who likely will keep his option of $3.6 million for next season, is expected to be either bought out, waived or traded.

Jacque Vaughn, who could be re-signed, and Lamond Murray are free agents.

Carter And Jefferson Staying Together Unless KG Or Brand Are Available

May 18, 2006 11:57 PM

Rod Thorn's plan is to keep Vince Carter and Richard Jefferson together unless Kevin Garnett or Elton Brand become available, a situation that appears highly unlikely. Thorn also indicated that he believes that it is 'hilarious' that people believe Carter and Jefferson cannot co-exist.

Jason Kidd's focus is building on what they already have. "I think we can win if the bench gets stronger, that definitely helps.

"Rod and Bruce and Ed and Coach Frank, now they have to work. We trust in those guys to do the right thing."

Cliff Robinson Visits Nets

May 16, 2006 6:33 AM

According to the New York Daily News, suspended forward Cliff Robinson stopped by the team's practice facility Monday to see his team off as they try to starve off elimination in Game 5 at Miami.

It was the first time Robinson returned to the team since he was suspended hours before Game 3 for five games for violating the NBA's drug policy. Robinson can attend practices but he is banned from the arena for games.

"What goes on in that locker room stays in that locker room," Lawrence Frank said of Robinson. "But he was here. He was an active participant, what we were doing. All I can say is he has spoken to his teammates. That's it."

May 15, 2006 2:29 AM

Dwyane Wade had 31 points, eight assists and seven rebounds, and the Miami Heat beat the New Jersey Nets 102-92 on Sunday to take a 3-1 lead in their best-of-seven series.

"We're not surprised. When we play Miami Heat basketball on both ends of the floor, we're a tough team to beat, at home or on the road," Wade said. "We go home to Game 5 and try to close it out at home."

Wade Takes Elbow To Jaw From Carter

May 13, 2006 5:49 AM

Dwyane Wade was elbowed by Vince Carter while defending the Nets guard on a drive about three minutes into the second half. Wade drew blood when he bit his jaw and remained on the floor for a couple minutes before leaving with a towel over his face.

Wade went into the locker room for a few minutes before returning to the floor.

"He's a tough kid," Shaquille O'Neal said. "I think he got an inadvertent elbow in the face, messed up his pretty red lips a little bit."

"I knew he'd be back," Heat forward Udonis Haslem said. "He's been banged up all year, here or there. Head. Mouth. Hip. Back. Knee. Feet. Everything, and nothing has stopped him. I knew he'd be back. I wasn't worried."

Clifford Robinson, who was suspended for five games on Friday,  was also suspended last year for five games for failing to comply with the league's testing policy.

Robinson's agent, Brad Marshall, said Robinson was "completely clean" on previous tests this season. Robinson's camp may want to contest the matter, but Rod Thorn said, "I don't think you'll see an appeal."
