The New Jersey Nets have signed free agent guard Mario West to a 10-day contract, Nets General Manager Billy King announced on Thursday. Per team policy, terms of the contract were not released.
West is a fourth-year NBA veteran with career averages of 0.8 points and 0.8 rebounds in 156 games with Atlanta. The Georgia Tech product went undrafted in 2007 and signed with Atlanta as a free agent on October 1, 2007.

The New Jersey Nets have requested waivers on guard/forward Quinton Ross, Nets General Manager Billy King announced today. Ross played in 36 games for the Nets this season, making four starts, and averaging 1.6 points and 0.8 rebounds in 9.8 minutes per game.
Ross missed a total of 24 games due to injury throughout the season, including 15 of the last 16 games with a lower back injury.
In seven NBA seasons, Ross holds career averages of 4.1 points, 2.1 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game.
The New Jersey Nets have begun selling their premium season tickets for their inaugural season in Brooklyn in 2012-13.
Current season tickets holders have been given the opportunity to buy its top ticket package, which is being called “All Access” season tickets.
The packages will cover 4,000 club and courtside seats in the area. Nets chief executive officer Brett Yormark said that all of the top-of-the-line All Access seats have already been sold. He did not say how much they cost.
The remaining premium seats range in price from $99 to $1,500 per seat.
An unprecedented group workout is being planned for the weekend of April 29 in New Jersey which could dramatically alter the landscape of this year's draft class, particularly in regard to how underclassmen are able to “test the waters” when deciding whether or not to turn pro.
The workout would occur between the deadline set by the NBA for underclassmen to declare for the draft (April 24) and the deadline set by the NCAA for underclassmen to withdraw from the draft without losing their college eligibility (May 8).
Still awaiting approval from the NBA League office, the workout is for draft-eligible prospects at which all 30 NBA teams can attend. The New Jersey Nets, in conjunction with the Houston Rockets and New York Knicks, are hoping to host this event at their practice facility in East Rutherford.
Ideally this workout will feature as many top draft prospects as are willing to attend—not just underclassmen who are “testing the waters,” but also seniors and international players. Measurements and athletic, combine-style testing will also likely be conducted.
The Utah Utes have received permission from the New Jersey Nets to interview Nets assistant coach Larry Krystowiak as they continue their search to fill their men's basketball coaching vacancy.
Krystowiak was hired to coach Montana in 2004, and went 42-20 over two seasons with two NCAA Tournament appearances.
Krystkowiak became an assistant with the Milwaukee Bucks in 2006 and was named the head coach in 2007. He lasted one season as the Bucks' head coach.
He joined the Nets’ coaching staff in July of 2010.
The NBA will investigate Jay-Z’s visit with the Kentucky basketball team after Sunday’s 76-69 win against North Carolina in the NCAA Tournament East Regional Final, reports CBSSports.com’s Ken Berger.
Jay-Z, rapper and part-owner of the New Jersey Nets, might have violated NBA rules because Kentucky has multiple potential first-round draft picks on its roster.
Berger equates the incident to Celtics GM Danny Ainge sitting with Kevin Durant's mother during the 2007 Big 12 tournament. Ainge and the Celtics were fined $30,000 for the infraction.
Anthony Morrow has become the Nets' best offseason acquisition this season, parlaying his excellent perimeter shooting into solid minutes.
“I’ve only played with one other shooter similar to him and that’s Kyle Korver, a guy that’s just a dead-eye 3-point shooter,” Nets point guard Deron Williams said. “Guys like that are a point guard’s dream, because you’re pretty much mad when they miss.”
Morrow signed a $12 million, three-year contract with the Nets last summer just two years after going undrafted.
“This is just tremendous, man, it’s a blessing,’’ Morrow said of the success and stability he has found in the NBA. “I thank God for it every day. It’s just one of those things where you see stuff like that in movies. You don’t see stuff like that every day. So I acknowledge that, give back to my neighborhood, give back to my community, tell people my story all the time.”
Kentucky forward Darius Miller and his Kentucky met Jay-Z in the locker room minutes after advancing to the Final Four with a 76-69 win against North Carolina in the NCAA Tournament East Regional final.
“That in itself was a pretty nice experience to add on to (the Final Four),” Miller said. “Going to the Final Four (is bigger) by far. But still, Jay-Z. It's crazy. This whole day has been crazy. I'm still taking it all in.”
Jay-Z, a Brooklyn, N.Y., native, is a partial owner of the NBA's New Jersey Nets. UK spokesman DeWayne Peevy said his visit to the UK locker room wasn't planned in advance.
Peevy wasn't certain if the rapper had been in the stands for the game. He was waiting in the hallway as UK players returned to the locker room after the game, and players were caught by surprise.
“I said, ‘Oh that's Jay-Z!' ” forward Terrence Jones said. “We all gave him a handshake and he came in the locker room, and we just kept screaming ‘Jay-Z in the locker room!' He congratulated us, just said he was proud of us.”
Calipari is believed to have met Jay-Z through NBA power broker William Wesley.
Nets' wing Quinton Ross is done for the season, having suffered a herniated disk Friday in Orlando.
"Unfortunately he has another disk situation," Johnson said. "We're going to confirm that when we get home, but based on preliminary discussions with Tim and our doctors, he's out."
Re-signing Kris Humphries is a Nets’ priority this season, and his chances of staying have improved.
The Nets reportedly were interested in the Hornets’ David West, but he tore his ACL on Thursday. It’s doubtful they will take a chance on West if he opts out of his contract.
The other big power forward who could be a free agent, Zach Randolph, is said to be close to signing an extension with Memphis.
All along, Humphries, who is averaging 10 points and 10.3 rebounds, has said he wants to stay, and Avery Johnson has said he wants the hard-working power forward to be a part of his "program." Of course, they will have to agree on a figure after the new collective bargaining agreement is reached.
