Aug 31, 2012 12:53 AM

The Nets are looking to build a new practice facility and are considering a waterfront site in the Red Hook section of Brooklyn, a real estate source said.

Real-estate developer Joseph Sitt has owned the 660,000-square-foot parcel since 2005, when he purchased it for about $24 million.

Barclays Center Rusted Exterior Looks Like Cross Between Richard Serra, UFO

Aug 27, 2012 7:31 PM

Barclays Center will have an intended layer of rust upon its finished facade. Traditional materials were rejected in favor of 12,000 separate pieces of what is called “weathering steel.”

The material gives the new home of the Nets an industrial, raw-looking material that is popular in and around New York City.

“When the material gets wet, there is a rusty wash that goes down onto adjacent areas of concrete,” said Michael Devonshire, a materials expert at Jan Hird Pokorny Associates, an architecture firm. “It can get really funky looking.”

The steel was weathered before it arrived in Brooklyn, as the components spent approximately four months at a plant in Indianapolis.

The arena looks like what would happen if “Richard Serra and Chanel created a U.F.O. together," said Gregg Pasquarelli, who is one of the principal architects of the firm that designed the arena.

Celtics, Spurs, Lakers, Warriors, Jazz Rated As Having Best Uniforms By Uni Watch

Aug 24, 2012 10:52 AM

Paul Lukas of Uni Watch ranks the uniforms of all 30 NBA teams, with the Celtics coming in first.

"The Rolling Stones, "Goodfellas," a Hershey's with almonds -- the classics are classic for a reason," writes Lukas about the Celtics. "That definitely applies to the Celtics' set. No goofy side panels, no extraneous bells or whistles -- just a perfect, vertically arched wordmark and a simple green-and-white color scheme. They rank atop this list despite sometimes wearing that black-trimmed alternate."

The Spurs, Lakers, Warriors and Jazz comprise the remainder of the top-five.

"The Raiders aren't the only team that knows how to wear silver and black," writes Lukas in regards to the Spurs. "In addition to the killer colors, the Spurs are also among the few NBA teams that have successfully incorporated a graphic image into their chest typography -- a small element that goes a long way."

Source: Magic Had 'Animosity' Dealing With Nets On Howard Trade

Aug 11, 2012 12:10 PM

The Nets attempted to trade for Dwight Howard in December, March and again in July, offering a package centered around Brook Lopez, Kris Humphries, MarShon Brooks and four unprotected first round picks.

Brooklyn also would have taken back the contracts of Jason Richardson, Chris Duhon and Earl Clark, who were ultimately included in the four-team trade.

A source says the Nets and Magic had animosity in their trade talks due to Orlando's contention that Brooklyn illegally contacted Howard in December without permission.

The Nets deny meeting with Howard and the Magic have never filed charges with the NBA.

Prokhorov Not Concerned About Luxury Tax, Believes Nets Investment Has Doubled In Value

Aug 5, 2012 12:12 PM

Mikhail Prokhorov is not concerned about paying an estimated $12 million luxury tax bill after approving the Nets’ trade for Joe Johnson and signing off on extensions for Deron Williams, Brook Lopez, Gerald Wallace and Kris Humphries.

"I am only interested in what will bring us a championship team," Prokhorov said. "That is the sole criterion."

The Nets are likely to pay the luxury tax until 2016 with about $290 million owed to Johnson, Williams, Lopez, Wallace and Humphries.

Prokhorov, who spent $260 million in May of 2010 for an 80 percent share of the team, 45 percent of the Barclays Center and an option to buy 20 percent of the overall Atlantic Yards project, believes his investment is "worth at least double already."
