The Brooklyn Nets have agreed to sign Archie Goodwin to a second 10-day contract.

Goodwin was released by the Phoenix Suns before the start of the season. Goodwin also briefly played for the New Orleans Pelicans this season.

Goodwin has averaged 8.7 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 13.2 minutes per game since joining the Nets.

Goodwin was a late first round pick in 2013 after one season at Kentucky.

The Brooklyn Nets will make Kentavious Caldwell-Pope a top priority this offseason as he hits restricted free agency.

Caldwell-Pope has become the most important player on the Detroit Pistons over the past year.

“You can make the argument that he’s their most important player now. So I think that just shows you the impact that he’s had. He’s gone from defender to arguably their MVP,” said Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie, who was drafted by Detroit in 2014 and spent his first two seasons playing alongside Caldwell-Pope.

The Vertical reported Detroit doesn’t want to give him a max contract, but it may not have a choice. The Post has confirmed the Nets’ interest and ESPN intimated they would go that high to get him.

“I’m impressed,’’ Nets coach Kenny Atkinson said when asked about Caldwell-Pope. “I love how he competes, how he competes on the defensive end. That’s really the essence of what I see when I watch him play. He plays with force, he competes on the defensive end.

“On a given night he can get 35 on you easily. His speed off the ball, coming off those [dribble handoffs], flying off and somehow [you’re] going to have to find a way to stay attached, stay close to him.”

The Nets can offer Caldwell-Pope a four-year, $103 million offer, but Detroit can offer a five-year deal and still not hit the luxury tax. 

Now that Dwight Howard has had a quiet and productive existence with the Atlanta Hawks, he talked about the end of his time with the Orlando Magic.

Howard claims the Magic agreed to trade him after the 2011 lockout before he could opt out in 2012. Howard ended up opting in with the Magic in March, which took away his free agency option and led to his trade to the Los Angeles Lakers.

"After the situation in Orlando, I never really came out and said my side of the story about what was going on there while I was there and the reasons for me wanting to leave," said Howard. "After that, people just decided that, ‘He’s not going to talk about it, so we might as well come up with a narrative and what we think went on in L.A. and what went on with Kobe [Bryant] and what we think happened with James [Harden].’ I never had a personal vendetta with either one of those guys. People took it as me having a problem with them being on a team with another superstar.

"I’ve never been the one to say, ‘OK, I want to talk about this because it was an issue with me.’ But everyone else kind of made it a storyline. And here in Atlanta, there is no storyline."

Howard was asked about what really happened with Orlando.

"I really hate going back with it. There were a lot of different things that happened in Orlando that people never talked about. Before the season even started during the lockout, I asked them privately, I even talked to [teammate] Jameer [Nelson] and [then-general manager] Otis [Smith] and I said, ‘Hey, I just want a change in my life. It has nothing to do with [then-coach] Stan Van Gundy. This has nothing to do with the players here in Orlando. It has nothing to do with Orlando itself.’ I just felt I was too comfortable and I wanted more for myself and more for basketball.

"It had nothing to do with the team. They said they were going to try to move me. I thought it was going to happen. They came in and said, ‘We’re going to trade you.’ They shook my hand and said, ‘God bless you. You were here for eight years and you did a great job.’ They asked me to go shake my teammates’ hands. I went and shook their hands and told them that the team was going to trade me. I woke up the next day and they said, ‘We’re not going to trade you.’

"This was right after the [2011 NBA] lockout. I was supposed to get traded right before training camp. I had asked them to trade me to Brooklyn and I thought that was going to happen. They decided they weren’t going to trade me and that was when all hell broke loose. People said I was doing this in the locker room, doing that. But I’ve never been that kind of guy. I told my agent, ‘Listen, they want me here, so I will just stay here until the end of the season and I’ll make a decision after that. Let’s not fight it. Let’s not go back and forth. Let’s not talk about it.’

"And we did that. But every day in the media it was a different story. I was the type of person where I’m not going to focus on what is being said. I’m going to focus on winning and trying to win for this team while I’m here."

The Brooklyn Nets will sign Archie Goodwin to a 10-day contract.

Goodwin had been playing for Greensboro in the D-League. Goodwin averaged 17.0 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 32.7 minutes over 34 games with Greensboro.

Goodwin was released by the Phoenix Suns in October after three seasons with the team. Goodwin played three games earlier in the season with the New Orleans Pelicans.

Goodwin was the 29th overall pick out of Kentucky in 2013 after one season at Kentucky. Goodwin won't turn 23 until August.

After a brash approach to building a title contender that failed, Mikhail Prokhorov took a step back and hired Sean Marks to replace Billy King as general manager.

Marks outlined a vision for the Nets that included a high end analytics group, a performance staff that touches each player daily with designated individual sessions, regular interactions with mental health experts and revamping the family room to create a more welcoming environment for wives and children and parents,. At the core of Marks' vision, he explained, was a long-term plan of developing consistency and excellence that would require years, not months.

"I was clear in our meeting," Marks said. "I told them, 'If you are looking for a quick fix or similar to what you did before, I'm the wrong guy.'"

"There was a humility to the ownership group when I met them," Kenny Atkinson said. "They put up their hands and said, 'We did it this way, and it didn't work. We're going to do it another way.' That's got to be hard, especially for a billionaire who has been extremely successful."

Prokhorov declined a phone interview with ESPN, saying his English is not good. He instead emailed: "There is no shortcut to a championship." Initially, his approach was to run the Nets "in the same way I've approached my business, which, by the way, has brought considerable success. That is to say, throw everything you've got at a challenge, and you're bound to be the victor."

Yet Prokhorov acknowledges Brooklyn's current situation is different, and that winning "requires the patience to build, step by step."

Prokhorov was asked if he'll continue to be patient.

"I try to be zen about it," Prokhorov writes. "It's a process, as they say."
