Hornets Encouraged By Trade Interest In Core Players

Feb 22, 2013 5:01 PM

The New Orleans Hornets didn't make a trade this week, but Dell Demps was encouraged by the interest rival teams expressed in his players.

“I usually don’t like to talk about actual trade details but what I will say is we got a call on a number of guys but we really like our core, we like our young group and we want to see them grow,” Demps said on Friday. “It’s a good sign when players call on your team, it means they have value but we like our young group right now. It will be interesting to see how we finish out the season.”

Eric Gordon was mentioned in several trade rumors leading up to the deadline.

Monty Williams Wants Anthony Davis To Focus On Fundamental Play

Feb 21, 2013 3:17 PM

Monty Williams wants Anthony Davis to focus on fundamentals, and forget about making highlight-reel plays.

“You remember thrilling and home runs,” Williams said. “I’m trying to push solid. I’m more concerned with him setting solid screens or making sure he’s in the right spot on the weak side. The home-run plays and the thrilling plays are a lot easier.
“We’re stressing solid, singles over home runs. The ability to do that for a young guy is tough.”

Davis played in the rookie-sophomore game during All-Star weekend in Houston.

“They watch All-Star weekend with a bunch of nonsense, and they you try to get these guys back to playing winning basketball instead of the oohs and aahs,” Williams said. “He’s been that kind of guy. When those plays present themselves, he’s capable of making them, and he makes it look easy. He’s going to be a great player someday.”

Hornets Interested In Klay Thompson Should Gordon Talks With Warriors Progress

Feb 20, 2013 2:37 AM

The New Orleans Hornets are interested in Klay Thompson should trade talks with the Golden State Warriors on Eric Gordon advance.

The Hornets matched Gordon's four-year, $58 million offer sheet with the Phoenix Suns last offseason.

Gordon remains on restriction in playing back-to-back games.

"I don’t really get caught up to it,’’ Gordon said Tuesday night about trade rumors. "But you just never know your situation. That’s part of the process but at the end of the day, you can’t worry about that as a player. If it happens, it happens. I’m definitely not worried about it.’’

Gordon Taking Relaxed Approach To Deadline Rumors

Feb 19, 2013 11:43 AM

Eric Gordon has been mentioned in several trade rumors, but he says he is comfortable staying with the New Orleans Hornets.

Gordon tried to leave the franchise in the offseason for the Phoenix Suns with a four-year, $58 million offer sheet that the Hornets matched.

"I'm not really worried about it," Gordon said of the deadline. "I've just got to go out and play my game and look forward to this week. Whatever happens, happens. It's happened to me before where I was traded. Business is business. I really don't worry about that. I'm just focused on this team.

"For any player that goes from team to team, whatever the situation is, it's all about playing basketball. And it's good to represent whatever organization you're in. I'm here. And I look forward to being here. That's that. Our team is building as one. And we'll see what goes on from here."

Mavericks, Warriors, Rockets Interested In Eric Gordon

Feb 14, 2013 3:11 PM

Eric Gordon has been mentioned in trade rumors, though a source says the odds of the New Orleans Hornets actually agreeing to a deal is less than 10 percent.

The Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets and Golden State Warriors are amongst the teams that have expressed interest in Gordon.

Both the Mavericks and Rockets are also saving their cap space for Dwight Howard.

Exec: Hornets Entertaining Trade Talks For Eric Gordon

Feb 9, 2013 10:45 AM

The New Orleans Hornets have shown a willingness to engage in talks for Eric Gordon, according to a rival executive.

Gordon's agent, Rob Pelinka, has been more than open to the idea of a trade for his client as well.

Gordon signed with the Phoenix Suns last summer and his comments after the Hornets matched the offer sheet suggested that he was upset about the situation.

"You never know what could happen," Gordon said by phone when asked if he now sees New Orleans as the long-term spot for him. "The main thing right now is to really focus on this team. After thinking about my injuries and everything, everything is year by year with me. I have to focus on this year. I don't know what's going to happen. You never know what's going to happen."

Jason Smith Could Need Surgery In Offseason

Feb 6, 2013 5:00 PM

New Orleans Hornets forward Jason Smith continues to play with a torn labrum in his right shoulder and could need surgery this offseason.

Smith acknowledges the injury -- which he suffered on Dec. 12 -- fluctuates in terms of pain, with some days being better than others. He also aggravates the shoulder often in games.

"I’m hanging in there, it’s always sore,’’ Smith said. "You can’t do anything about it until you get surgery. You just got to manage it as best as you can; get with the training staff and get your treatment day in and day out.  You have to use your feet more and try not to do so much arm activity and banging."
