Monty Williams Takes Himself To Task As Pelicans Drop Below .500

Jan 13, 2015 10:18 AM

Monty Williams took himself to task after the New Orleans Pelicans' 108-100 loss to the Boston Celtics on Monday night.

“I am not doing a good job of getting our guys to play the same way every game,” he said. "That has plagued us all year long. We’ve got to — I’ve got to — figure out. We play selfish. We separate when things don’t go well, especially on the road. That’s something that falls on my lap and we’ve got to figure that out.”

The loss in Boston dropped the Pelicans to 18-19, more than two games back of the eighth seed in the Western Conference. They have been inconsistent this season, without a winning streak of more than two games.

“The guys we have on the floor aren’t doing it consistently,” Williams added. "We have done it before and that’s the coach’s responsibility.”

The Pelicans led the Celtics 76-72 after three quarters, but were outscored 36-24 over the final 12 minutes. Jrue Holiday didn’t play in the second half after suffering a right ankle injury, but Williams refused to make excuses.

“It doesn’t matter when San Antonio has guys out, they play the same way every night,” the coach said. "Until we do that, we’re going to be fighting ourselves for the rest of the season.

“That’s why we’re all frustrated. We’ve seen our team play at a high level.”

Jeff Green To Grizzlies Trade Finalized

Jan 11, 2015 6:29 PM

A Jeff Green trade that was first reported as being close to completion on Friday has finally been fully agreed upon.

The Memphis Grizzlies will acquire Jeff Green from the Boston Celtics, along with Russ Smith from the New Orleans Pelicans.

TayShaun Prince, Austin Rivers and a future first round pick from the Grizzlies will go to the Celtics.

Quincy Pondexter will be traded to the Pelicans from the Grizzlies, along with a 2015 second round pick.

Rivers is unlikely to play for the Celtics, sources said. The Los Angeles Clippers are in discussions with the Grizzlies to acquire Rivers.

The Celtics don’t want to take contract salary beyond this year, but the Clippers have been working to find a third team to help deliver Boston an expiring deal to go along with the second-round pick the Celtics want for Austin Rivers, sources said.
