Anthony Davis Hopes To Start In ASG

Dec 26, 2016 1:07 PM

Anthony Davis said he would like to start in the 2017 NBA All-Star Game as it will take place in New Orleans.

Davis lost approximately $25 million by not starting in last year's All-Star Game or being named to an All-NBA team as he missed out on qualifying for the Rose rule.

"If it happens, it happens. … I wish it happened last year," Davis said alluding to the lost money. "But the rest of that will take care of itself."

Anthony Davis Has Endured 'Learning Experience' As Pelicans' Franchise Player

Dec 23, 2016 1:25 PM

Anthony Davis has had to endure some criticism and the burden of responsibility as a franchise player as the New Orleans Pelicans have struggled to put a healthy team around him.

“It’s been a learning experience,” Davis told The Vertical. “And I learn from every experience. Any time something goes bad, I try to talk to people and just figure it out, see what I can do to help this team. There is nothing else to it. Try to go out here and be the leader and help this team as much as possible.”

Davis ranks second in Player Efficiency Rating behind Russell Westbrook. Like Westbrook, Alvin Gentry admits the Pelicans probably lean too heavily on Davis.

“Obviously, you’re going to go to your best player. I don’t see OKC going away from Westbrook. So we’re not going to go away from him,” Gentry told The Vertical. “What he’s done, he wants to be the best player, so he continues to work and try to add things to his game. I think you look at his stats and the way he’s played, he’s more than withstood the burden of what is asked of him, and what we’ve got to do now is fill those other spots where other guys do the same thing.”

David Stern: There Was Never A Chris Paul To Lakers Trade To 'Void'

Dec 8, 2016 5:55 PM

David Stern was asked about the proposed trade of Chris Paul to the Los Angeles Lakers that was canceled by him when the NBA were assuming control of the-then New Orleans Hornets.

Paul was to be traded to the Lakers with Pau Gasol going to the Houston Rockets in a blockbuster three-team trade.

The Los Angeles Clippers eventually traded for Paul and New Orleans won the lottery to draft Anthony Davis the next year.

"I'm going to correct your language: What 'cancellation'? The GM [Dell Demps] was not authorized to make that trade," said Stern when asked about the canceled trade. "And acting on behalf of owners, we decided not to make it. I was an owner rep. There was nothing to 'void.' It just never got made.

"When you're the commissioner and you have two teams that are ticked off at you, as in the Lakers and Houston, and the GMs without wanting to be attributed, spend their time trashing you, the wrong impression can be granted. It was one of the few times I decided to just go radio silent and let it play out, and I got killed. So, the answer is: there was never a trade. It was never approved by me as the owner rep."

When the decision was made in 2011, a league spokesman said: “League office declined to make the trade for basketball reasons.”

Anthony Davis: Pelicans Have To Work Hard Not Having Multiple Superstars

Dec 4, 2016 3:00 PM

Anthony Davis has consistently defended his supporting cast with the New Orleans Pelicans, which is comprised of journeymen and younger players.

“We don’t have a lot of guys that other teams have,” Davis said. “Three or four players on each team who are superstars. We’ve got to come out and play hard and coach [Alvin Gentry] tells us that all the time. All of us got to the NBA by working hard. So we’ve got to keep that in mind.”

Davis has been more of a quiet leader during the opening seasons of his career.

“I’m just out here playing and I’m doing whatever I can do to help the team,” Davis said. “It’s a long season. We’ve got a lot of games left. Keep the team spirit high and making sure we continue to have fun. [Leadership] is something I have to be comfortable with. I’ve got to make sure I lead these guys and make sure these guys always got their heads high and keep playing. No matter what the situation is and our record, we have to keep playing and continue to remain focused.”
