Spike Lee Certain Anthony Will Be A Knick

Oct 31, 2010 9:18 AM

Acclaimed director and longtime Knicks fan Spike Lee is certain that Carmelo Anthony will play for his team in the near future.

"I have just one sentence for you," Lee told The New York Post on Saturday night. "Carmelo Anthony will be with the Knicks if God is willing and the creek don't rise."

Lee attended Anthony's wedding in July and The Post reported earlier this month that Anthony has told Lee the Knicks are far and away his top choice.

Gallinari Dealing With Pain In Wrist

Oct 30, 2010 4:23 PM

Danilo Gallinari has admitted to feeling some discomfort in his shooting wrist.

However, Gallinari doesn't think the issue is the reason he shot just 3-for-9 from the field against the Raptors on opening night.

"I don't think it was not going in, it wasn't going in 100 percent," said Gallinari. "It was going in a little bit. I just think we won the game and I was happy with that. I felt good because we won. We won the game. That's all that matters. I'm not worried about it, especially when we win."

He went on to score just two points on 0-for-6 shooting against the Celtics on Friday night.

"I feel a little bit of pain," Gallinari said. "I don't want to say it effects anything but I feel discomfort. I just have to play with it."

Sources: Carmelo Hesitant About Nets, Wants To Force Trade To Knicks

Oct 30, 2010 12:38 PM

Sources close to Carmelo Anthony tell Chris Broussard that he is reluctant to agree to a trade to the Nets, which he can essentially veto by refusing to sign a long-term contract extension with New Jersey.

Anthony, the sources say, is willing to hold out until the trade deadline in an attempt to force Denver to deal him to the Knicks. The thinking is that the Nuggets would accept New York's offer rather than risk losing Anthony for nothing in the summer.

A good start by the Nets, who are now 2-0 on the young season, might change Anthony's mind.

Nuggets Don't Want To Trade Carmelo To Knicks

Oct 29, 2010 3:56 PM

A source close to the situation tells ESPN that the Nuggets prefer not to trade Carmelo Anthony to the Knicks, who are presumed to be the superstar's preferred destination.

The Knicks continue to pursue Anthony and have tried to enlist the Blazers to facilitate a three-team trade.  So far Portland has made Nicolas Batum off limits in any scenario.

Denver feels that the Nets will keep their offer of Derrick Favors and draft picks on the table through the trade deadline in February.

The Nuggets remain likely to deal Anthony rather than face losing him to free agency in the off-season.

Amar'e Left Phoenix Because Window Was Closing

Oct 29, 2010 8:16 AM

Amar'e Stoudemire left the Suns as a free agent and decided to join the Knicks for fame, fortune and a better chance to win an NBA title.

New York doesn't have the core needed to contend now but even after signing Stoudemire to a $100 million contract, they have the future cap space to make a splash.

Stoudemire also left Phoenix because he felt the Suns were watching their window to contend close.

"From my standpoint it's longevity and being able to build a team for a championship-caliber team," Stoudemire said. "That was my goal in Phoenix."

"I wanted to make sure that we're looking forward to the future and being able to bring in other star players to help win a championship," Stoudemire added. "I felt that wasn't going to happen in that situation. I wanted to go to a team willing to build a championship quality team."

Fields Could Be Full-Time Starter For Knicks

Oct 29, 2010 8:11 AM

Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni says that rookie Landry Fields could remain in the team's starting lineup for the entire season.

"All year," D'Antoni said when asked how long Fields might last in the role as starting shooting guard. "I'd be surprised if he can't do it."

Fields had 11 points and four rebounds on 4-for-8 shooting in his debut on Wednesday night against the Raptors.

"The best part of his game is all the little stuff," D'Antoni said. "He'll do what the game plan is. It's the consistency of all the details of the game that makes him unique. Normally you look at inconsistency as a rookie but I don't see that. He didn't look nervous whatsoever."

Carmelo: 'It's A Time For Change'

Oct 28, 2010 8:54 AM

Carmelo Anthony made perhaps his most revealing public comments to date concerning the stalemate between him and the Denver Nuggets.

"They [Nuggets management] want to sit down and talk, but my thing is it?s way beyond this year.  It ain?t got nothing to do with the new GM, Josh [Kroenke], the players. For me, I feel it?s a time for change," Anthony said.

"If I do nothing now, I?m never going to do anything. I feel like my time is now to make a decision if I want to leave or if I want to stay," he continued.

Sources say Anthony is worried about joining a team that has gutted its roster to acquire him, and one source doesn't think he has warmed much to the idea of playing for the Nets.

Anthony has the Knicks and Bulls at the top of his wish list.  Sources say the Knicks don't have the assets to make a credible offer and the Nuggets didn't have a lot of interest in acquiring Luol Deng and his large contract.

Yet the Nuggets are still expected to deal Anthony before the trade deadline rather than risk losing him without compensation next summer.

Anthony continues to maintain that he is not as concerned about money as he is in controlling his destiny.  And he says that he does not dwell on the maximum-salary extension offer from Denver that remains on the table.

"I can?t go out there playing and thinking like that. I won?t be able to be as effective as I can be out there thinking like that," he said.

Anthony Randolph Out Two Weeks

Oct 27, 2010 4:38 PM

Knicks forward Anthony Randolph will miss two weeks of action with a sprained ankle.

He suffered the injury on Tuesday after landing on a teammate's foot in practice.

Anthony was originally expected to be out for only one week but an additional week of rest was prescribed after team doctors took another look at the injury.

Denver Still Hopes To Convince Carmelo To Stay

Oct 27, 2010 10:06 AM

Alan Hahn cites people with direct knowledge of the situation who insist that Denver still hopes to persuade Carmelo Anthony to sign a extension with the Nuggets.

Denver is reportedly not as high on the Nets' trade offer as some had believed.

"Despite the perceived value of the Nets' offer, I'm also told the Nuggets are not all that enamored with 19-year-old rookie Derrick Favors," writes Hahn.

Knicks Probed By NBA For Illegal Workouts

Oct 27, 2010 8:29 AM

The NBA is looking into allegations that the Knicks circumvented league rules by conducting secret workouts with college players.

Teams are not supposed to work out players before the annual predraft camp and can only conduct a certain number of workouts.

Knicks director of East Coast scouting Rodney Heard held workouts in gymnasiums in the Atlanta area in violation of league rules, according to a Yahoo! Sports rule.

"We will be investigating these allegations," NBA spokesman Tim Frank said Tuesday.

The Knicks said in a statement that they are cooperating with the NBA and "defer all comment to them."

One incident occurred in May 2007 when Kansas guard Brandon Rush suffered a serious knee injury. He later withdrew from the draft.
