Carmelo Rated Amongst NBA's Most Efficient On Drives, Touches At Elbow

Aug 30, 2012 1:15 PM

The New York Knicks became one of 10 team to purchase a multi-camera system from STATS, LLC that tracks every movement in an NBA game.

Carmelo Anthony was the most efficient player in the NBA of all players who drove the ball at least 40 times in camera-recorded games during the 11-12 season. New York scored 1.66 points per possession on those trips. Anthony shot the ball on 55 percent of those drives and drew fouls on 25 percent of them. Anthony shot just better than 50 percent.

But Anthony drove just 3.1 times per game, equivalent to the same rate as Chandler Parsons and Luol Deng.

Anthony also ranked No. 1 on points per possession on all of his elbow touches. Anthony shot 62 percent on shots taken after an elbow touch.

Carmelo: Felton To Play With Chip On Shoulder

Aug 24, 2012 11:12 PM

Carmelo Anthony has a sense of what to expect from Raymond Felton.

"This is a special year for him mentally, for him being traded from here and having the chance to come back and prove to people what his game is about," Anthony said. "When he was here in New York, they were rolling. He was having an All-Star year when he was here so to bring him back that was an extra incentive for him to want to do good.

"I know, for him, he has a chip on his shoulder. I've been playing against Raymond since I was 9 years old in AAU basketball so he's been the same since then. He wants to prove everybody wrong."

Felton struggled with his weight throughout the 2010-11 season.

Celtics, Spurs, Lakers, Warriors, Jazz Rated As Having Best Uniforms By Uni Watch

Aug 24, 2012 10:52 AM

Paul Lukas of Uni Watch ranks the uniforms of all 30 NBA teams, with the Celtics coming in first.

"The Rolling Stones, "Goodfellas," a Hershey's with almonds -- the classics are classic for a reason," writes Lukas about the Celtics. "That definitely applies to the Celtics' set. No goofy side panels, no extraneous bells or whistles -- just a perfect, vertically arched wordmark and a simple green-and-white color scheme. They rank atop this list despite sometimes wearing that black-trimmed alternate."

The Spurs, Lakers, Warriors and Jazz comprise the remainder of the top-five.

"The Raiders aren't the only team that knows how to wear silver and black," writes Lukas in regards to the Spurs. "In addition to the killer colors, the Spurs are also among the few NBA teams that have successfully incorporated a graphic image into their chest typography -- a small element that goes a long way."

Baron Davis To Help Mentor Young Knicks

Aug 24, 2012 10:47 AM

Baron Davis will help mentor some of the Knicks’ younger players this upcoming season, Davis’ agent Todd Ramasar said.

"He'll still be around the team and could kind of help some of the younger guys just through his experience," Ramasar said. "The Knicks have been wonderful in terms of just extending support to Baron, whether it be through obviously his physical therapy or just having him involved with the organization going forward. He really loves that team and that organization has done an excellent job with Baron, and Baron feels like that's home. He really, really enjoyed last season with the Knicks."

Davis plans to make a comeback after suffering a partial tear of the patella tendon in his right knee and complete tears of the right anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments.

"From what I'm observing, a lot of his therapy is just coming from walking and strengthening that leg again, and kind of adding some of those muscles that might have atrophied from the time down," Ramasar said. "He's starting to get those muscles to fire again."

Stoudemire Ready To Commit To Defense

Aug 21, 2012 10:47 AM

Amar’e Stoudemire is motivated to improve defensively.

“Defense is the key to win championships, that’s something I’m dedicated on also, to become a much, much better defensive player,” Stoudemire said. “It’s going to happen. It’s a matter of preparation and practice and getting that chemistry down on that end of the court.”

Stoudemire trained with Hakeem Olajuwon for two weeks in Houston.

“There’s so many moves that I picked up from Hakeem,” he said. “Just developing my post [game] has been phenomenal for me. When I came out of high school, I was thrown the ball and [told] do what you do best. I never got a chance to develop my game as far as [in the] post. Working with Hakeem is gonna be a great advantage for me.”

Knicks Interested In Tony Taylor Jr.

Aug 19, 2012 9:58 PM

The Knicks are interested in signing point guard Tony Taylor Jr.

Taylor played collegiately at George Washington, averaging 13.1 points and 4.3 assists as a senior.

New York brought in Taylor for a workout last week.

"There are a few NBA teams that have Tony on their short list for veteran's camp, including the Knicks, Magic, Celtics, Heat, Pacers, and Lakers," said agent B.J. Bass. "There are also about half a dozen D-League teams that want him as their starting point guard."

The Knicks already have Raymond Felton, Jason Kidd and Pablo Prigioni signed at point guard.

"The more I've watched Tony develop since GWU, the more he reminds me of Isiah Thomas. I'm not afraid to say it," Bass added. "Close your eyes and picture him in a pair of Pistons' blue shorts during his highlight reel and tell me I'm crazy."

Woodson Encouraged Stoudemire To Work With Olajuwon

Aug 14, 2012 12:32 PM

Mike Woodson encouraged Amar'e Stoudemire to work with Hakeem Olajuwon this offseason.

"He helped me a lot," Stoudemire said of Olajuwon. "A lot of moves that he has really, really translate to my game. To now develop a post game is going to be remarkable for me. It's going to catch a lot of my opponents off guard and it's going to be a great year for me.

"I have the IQ to implement this and learn fast, but it's not easy. There's a lot of detail that goes into it. He's very, very swift with his footwork, and he's very agile also, at (age) 50 still. It's great to learn from him. This is a great opportunity because you never how long he's going to be able to do this. So while I'm young and can still learn from one of the best, (I'm) very blessed to be a part of it."

Woodson and Olajuwon played together with the Rockets.

"Coach Woodson wanted to develop my post game and he knew I had it in me," Stoudemire said. "He called up a good friend Hakeem and Hakeem said, 'sure no problem.'

"We both play a similar position. He's an athletic center and I'm an athletic forward, but he's played as a four.  He's known as a basketball player. Same as myself being able to adapt to any environment and play to the best of my ability, so to learn from him is awesome."
