Kenyon Martin Would 'Love' To Remain With Knicks

Mar 31, 2013 6:30 PM

It took longer than expected for Kenyon Martin to find an NBA home this season, but the veteran forward is glad he landed with the New York Knicks.

"I would love to stay a Knick," he said. "I don't want to go nowhere. I am proving to this organization what I can be and who I am as a person on and off the court, and I think they see that. I'm here now and I'm going to make the best of this opportunity."

The Knicks are 13-6 since Martin first played for the team on Feb. 24.

Kerr Foresaw Stoudemire's Knee Troubles

Mar 30, 2013 11:57 AM

Steve Kerr agreed with the Phoenix Suns' decision not to extend a maximum contract offer to A’mare Stoudemire.

“Yeah, I was on board with it,” said Kerr, the former general manager of the Suns.

The Suns’ medical staff believed Stoudemire was a medical risk not worth taking.

“What I remember is our orthopedic surgeon Tom Carter saying that generally after six to eight years after a player has a microfracture there could be problems,” Kerr said. “We calculated he had a couple of good years left and that the back end of the contract could be a problem.

“You never know for sure but you go with your experts and in this case it was Dr. Carter.”

Carmelo Credits Boxing Regimen For Easing Position Change

Mar 29, 2013 1:25 PM

Carmelo Anthony uses boxing as part of his offseason conditioning program, and credits the training for easing his transition to the power forward position this season.

“Absolutely. I mean, with the whole boxing thing, I actually bumped my boxing workout up [last] offseason because I kind of had a feeling,” Anthony said of his eventual move to the Knicks’ frontcourt. “Me and my trainer talked about that. It was just a matter of taking what I was able to do in the boxing gym and really incorporate that into basketball, as far as extreme focus and going through the craziest workouts that you could possibly go through.”

Anthony believes boxing has helped improve his dexterity and reaction-time.

“A lot of eye-hand coordination, a lot of quickness, so that kind of helps me with my shot and with things that I'm able to do out there on the court,” Anthony said.

Amar'e Stoudemire Encouraged By Rehab From Knee Surgery

Mar 28, 2013 4:37 PM

Amar'e Stoudemire revealed that his rehab from knee surgery is “going well” but he did not indicate if he will return for the playoffs next month.

“It’s two weeks in now, so I’ve been able to really recover (and) feel the improvement daily, and I just hope that continues to be the case,” Stoudemire said.

Stoudemire was originally given a six-to-eight week timetable, which would make it unlikely that he could play in the first round.

Mike Woodson admitted that he can’t foresee Stoudemire playing significant minutes, especially after having been out of the lineup for more than a month.

“I can’t get him on the court and say ‘Stat, I’m going to play you 25, 30 minutes,’ ” Woodson added. “I can’t do that. It’s getting him back comfortable. If it’s 10 minutes, 12 minutes, we’ve got to get him comfortable to play those minutes at a high level and feel good about it. Those minutes have to generate something positive to help us win. That’s how I look at it.”

Celtics Nearly Signed Kenyon Martin

Mar 27, 2013 11:04 AM

The Boston Celtics nearly signed Kenyon Martin earlier this season.

"It was real close," Martin said. "Like, the deal was almost done. From what I understood, Doc [Rivers] wanted me and the players wanted me, but in the 11th hour …"

The Celtics reportedly prioritized backcourt depth over Martin.

"They didn't pull the trigger," Martin said. "And I'm not talking a few days ago or even a few weeks ago. This was a couple of months ago."

Martin signed with the Knicks last month after sitting out all season.

"So now I'm here and I'm going to make them pay -- I'm going to make all the teams that passed on me pay," Martin said.

Kenyon Martin 'Would Love' To Stay With Knicks

Mar 24, 2013 2:14 PM

Kenyon Martin has been a major factor for the Knicks over the past five games averaging 12.2 points and 7.8 rebounds, and he made it clear that he "would love" to stay in New York next season.

One game after posting 19 points and 11 rebounds, Martin dropped 18 points, seven rebounds and two blocks in Saturday's blowout win over the Toronto Raptors.

"I just want people to know that I still can play the game of basketball," Martin said. "I wasn't the No. 1 pick for nothing. I didn't stick around for 12 years for nothing. So just letting people know that I'm still here and hopefully I'm going to be around."

Surgeon Speculates Carmelo Anthony Has Torn Meniscus Or Arthritic Knee

Mar 17, 2013 12:50 AM

Carmelo Anthony has missed four of the past six games and is questionable to play Sunday, and one orthopedic surgeon who has not examined Anthony speculated that the New York Knicks' forward has either a partially torn meniscus or an arthritic knee.

Anthony had his knee drained in New York after the Knicks' loss to the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday. Having fluid in the back of the knee is rarely found in a patient "with a 100 percent normal knee," according to the surgeon.

“It means there is something going on with the knee,” the doctor added. “The question is, where did the fluid come from? What is the source of the fluid? Something inside the knee produces that fluid, so what is going to stop the fluid from coming back.”

The Knicks initially described Anthony's injury as just soreness.

Representatives from the New York Knicks will be on hand Saturday to scout Delonte West's debut with the Texas Legends.

New York currently has 15 players on its roster and would have to release a player to make room for West.
