Metta World Peace's brother, Daniel Artest, believes that the New York Knicks were missing a tough defensive element last season in the playoffs.
“They’ve got a good team but they never had that goon — that defensive goon last season,’’ Daniel Artest said. “Someone that’s not afraid. If Ron was on the team, they would have gotten past the Pacers.’’
World Peace was waived by the Los Angeles Lakers and subsequently signed with the Knicks.
“I’m not worried [he’s washed up],’’ Daniel said. “It’s all about heart. The way Ron plays, he will help the Knicks out the way he plays defense and take pressure off Carmelo [Anthony], [who] won’t have to guard the best forward guy anymore. [World Peace] can guard the power forward. He held a lot of power forwards like Zach Randolph, David West and LaMarcus [Aldridge] last season way below their scoring average. He’s still very strong and has a lot of game left.’’
The New York Knicks and Memphis Grizzlies have engaged in contract talks with Delonte West, according to a source.
The talks are “preliminary at this point” with no offers presented as of yet, said the source.
West has a career average of 9.7 points, 2.9 rebounds and 3.6 assists.
Metta World Peace, formerly known as Ron Artest, will change his name again this season.
"We are going to do do a name change, but I can't tell you what it is," World Peace told an interviewer with ClevverNews.
World Peace will not change his name legally, which means 'World Peace' will be on the back of his uniform with the New York Knicks.
The City Council of New York voted by a margin of 47 to 1 to limit the lease of Madison Square Garden to 10 years.
The arena is located above Penn Station and council members would prefer to see the arena moved to improve Penn Station.
The lease could be extended in the future.
Madison Square Garden is undergoing a billion-dollar renovation.
“Madison Square Garden will have to move, and I think this permit sends the message that that work needs to begin now,” City Council Speaker Christine Quinn said. “We need to make sure Penn Station becomes what we need it to be, a really 21st century grand entrance into the greatest city in the world, not ... what Sen. [Daniel] Moynihan or others historically described as a bunch of rat tunnels that lead people in and out of the city every day.”

Carmelo Anthony was asked by paparazzi in Hollywood about the possibility of signing with the Los Angeles Lakers next offseason.
Anthony has an early termination option on his contract with the New York Knicks in 2014 and was asked if he could see himself in a "purple and gold outfit."
"Uh, I doubt it," Anthony answered. "It's not a outfit, though."
"I'm reading between the lines, dude," said the paparazzi. "I think I'm going to see you in one soon."
"I don't think you should read between the lines," Anthony replied. "I don't think you should do that. It's not good to read between the lines."
