Westchester Fires Kevin Whitted As Head Coach

Mar 30, 2015 12:53 PM

The Westchester Knicks of the D-League have fired Kevin Whitted as head coach.

Craig Hodges will take over head coaching duties for the final games of the season.

The two coaches had tension throughout the season running the triangle offense with the second-worst record in the D-League.

Whitted, a first-year coach, was hired by Westchester general manager Allan Houston, his former Tennessee teammate.

Hodges is a Jackson disciple.

Andrea Bargnani, Knicks Have Mutual Interest On Return

Mar 18, 2015 1:08 PM

Andrea Bargnani has played much better of late for the New York Knicks and the team is interested in re-signing him in the offseason.

Bargnani’s agent, Leon Rose, confirmed on Tuesday that his client would welcome a second chance with the Knicks.

“Andrea is optimistic about what Phil is trying to accomplish and he certainly wants to be part of it,” Rose told the Daily News. “But he’s a free agent this summer so it’s too early to predict what may or may not happen.”

Ettore Messina believes that Bargnani is perfectly suited for Phil Jackson’s triangle offense, noting that he’s more effective in the high post.

Knicks Interested In Re-Signing Andrea Bargnani

Mar 9, 2015 1:35 PM

The New York Knicks are interested in re-signing Andrea Bargnani this offseason.

Phil Jackson is reportedly a believer in Bargnani's game due to his length, post defense and ability to score and pass in the triangle offense.

Jackson has no power forward or center under contract for next season and a one-year deal is not out of the question.

“He’s for sure going to get — at least — a one-year minimum deal,’’ one NBA executive told The Post.

Asked if he sees himself as a Knick next season, Bargnani, who lives in a nice apartment high-rise in White Plains, said: “I don’t think it is the place or time to talk about the future. The summer is in front. I’m very focused on finishing the season with the Knicks. I don’t know what’s going to happen.

“It’s just about the Knicks and this season and my teammates. It’s all about the team right now.’’

Derek Fisher Not Involved In Knicks' Decision To Fill 15th Roster Spot

Mar 9, 2015 8:30 AM

Derek Fisher was asked about whether the New York Knicks will fill their 15th roster spot, perhaps on Thanasis Antetokounmpo.

“Ask Phil [Jackson], Steve [Mills], Allan [Houston] in terms of the philosophy of leaving it open,’’ Fisher said. “I don’t factor into the equation if we should fill it or not. I’ve stated my opinion who it may or may not be. It hasn’t been brought to me that it’s being heavily considered.

“I’m not really involved in those daily discussions if we’ll stay at 14 or 15. It’s not on my radar as a priority. Obviously all our guys on the D-League team are being evaluated. Thanasis’ name has come up in different discussions.’’

Knicks Heavily Scouting Karl-Anthony Towns, Willie Cauley-Stein

Mar 7, 2015 4:35 PM

Phil Jackson and the New York Knicks' front office have traveled to scout several practices of the Kentucky basketball team.

The Knicks are expected to pick between No. 1 and No. 5 in the NBA Draft and could consider Karl-Anthony Towns or Willie Cauley-Stein.

“Honestly, I really wasn’t looking,” Karl-Anthony Towns said. “I was just focused on practice. I didn’t know.”

Mark Warkentien has attended nearly a dozen of Kentucky's practices this season.

"Karl isn’t a good kid, he’s a great kid,” says Kentucky assistant coach Barry Rohrssen, a New Yorker who is affectionately known as Slice. “He will be successful in anything he does.”
