Pelicans, Bucks, Knicks Among Interested Teams For Robin Lopez

Jun 30, 2015 7:48 PM

The New Orleans Pelicans, Milwaukee Bucks and New York Knicks are so far among the interested suitors for Portland Trail Blazers free agent Robin Lopez, league sources told RealGM.

Beyond Portland, Lopez is expected to have a list of suitors on July 1, and his connection to Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry has been clear around the NBA. Gentry coached Lopez during the seven-foot center’s first four seasons with the Phoenix Suns.

The Pelicans also are likely to have an interest in Golden State Warriors free agent Leandro Barbosa, whom Gentry’s long coached as an assistant, sources said.

The Blazers will assuredly pursue re-signing Lopez, too. The 27-year-old big man stabilized Portland’s center position over the past two seasons alongside LaMarcus Aldridge, averaging 11.1 points and 8.5 rebounds in 2014-15, and there is believed to be an interest for Lopez to play with Aldridge again next season.

Lopez has spent seven years in the NBA with Phoenix, New Orleans and Portland. He has averaged 8.2 points and 5.1 rebounds for his career — including 11.3 points and 5.6 rebounds in his lone season with the Pelicans.

DeAndre Jordan Seeking 3+1 Contract, Bigger Role On Offense

Jun 30, 2015 1:34 PM

DeAndre Jordan is seeking a four-year deal in free agency that includes an opt out after three seasons.

Seeking a shorter deal takes away the Los Angeles Clippers' advantage of being able to offer a fifth season.

The Clippers could offer Jordan a deal that includes a fifth year worth $27 million.

Jordan also wants a bigger role on offense as he's grown tired of being third in their pecking order behind Chris Paul and Blake Griffin.

Jordan will meet with the Los Angeles Lakers, Dallas Mavericks, New York Knicks and the Clippers once free agency begins.

A source close to the situation told ESPN on Tuesday that it's "50/50" between the Clippers and Mavericks.

Porzingis Questionable For Summer League With Hip Injury, Receives Call From Carmelo

Jun 30, 2015 10:41 AM

Carmelo Anthony reached out directly to Kristaps Porzingis following reports of his disapproval of the pick by the New York Knicks on draft night.

"Carmelo reached out to Kris after all of that. It was beautiful that a player of that profile can do something like that. It's great," Porzingis' older brother, Janis, said Monday during an appearance on ESPN 98.7 FM's "The Hahn and Humpty Show."

On Friday night, Anthony wrote on Instagram that Porzingis was "a steal" and that he "can't wait" to see him play.

Janis Porzingis also said in Monday's interview that his brother has been dealing with a hip injury that has prohibited him from working out in recent days. Kristaps Porzingis' workout with the Knicks on June 22 was cut short because of the hip ailment, which Janis described as "tightness."

Porzingis could miss the beginning of Summer League.

The New York Knicks intend to aggressively pursue Arron Afflalo in addition to Greg Monroe.

The Knicks are significant frontrunners for both players.

With Monroe expecting to command a maximum contract on the market, Afflalo could earn a deal in the neighborhood of three years, $36 million-$38 million, league sources said.

Afflalo finished last season with the Portland Trail Blazers.

Greg Monroe Plans To Meet With Knicks, Celtics, Bucks, Lakers, Blazers

Jun 28, 2015 7:42 PM

Greg Monroe said five teams have shown strong interest as he enters free agency.

Monroe said he will meet this week with the Boston Celtics, New York Knicks, Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Lakers and Portland Trail Blazers.

“(He and agent David Falk) are definitely looking at all our options,” he said. “You can see the trend is everybody’s taking shorter deals right now. So, most likely, I might take that route, too, and when the new deal kicks in, get a longer-term contract.

“I’m looking at a two-year deal plus an option” to become a free agent.

Monroe admits he is out of the Detroit Pistons' plans.

“Stan had smaller teams in Orlando (Magic) years ago,” Monroe said. “Dre is like Dwight Howard. So Stan wants to put good players around him. The team has different plans, and I respect that. I don’t want to be anywhere I’m not wanted.”

Caron Butler Expected To Field Interest From Bulls, Clippers, Spurs, Lakers, Knicks

Jun 28, 2015 4:24 PM

After his release from the Milwaukee Bucks before July 1, Caron Butler has emerged as a candidate for the Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Clippers and San Antonio Spurs, a league source told RealGM.

The Lakers and New York Knicks also expect to make an inquiry on Butler, a 13-year NBA veteran who has averaged 14.3 points and 5.1 rebounds for his career.

Each of the contending teams -- Bulls, Clippers and Spurs -- interested in Butler will have a wing need this offseason, and the 35-year-old has either played for or considered each in the past.

Butler scored 5.9 points while shooting 37.9 percent from three-point range in 78 games last season with the Detroit Pistons.

The Bucks plan to waive Butler and Shawne Williams before their guarantee dates on June 30, barring an unexpected deal, sources told RealGM.

Butler has played for eight different teams over his 13 seasons.
