David Blatt Meets With Phil Jackson About Knicks' Job

Apr 27, 2016 11:56 AM

David Blatt and Phil Jackson have met to discuss the New York Knicks' head coaching job.

Blatt and Kurt Rambis are the only known candidates so far, while Jackson is believed to have some degree of interest in Luke Walton.

Blatt was fired by the Cleveland Cavaliers shortly before the All-Star break.

Rambis finished the season as interim head coach of the Knicks, replacing Derek Fisher.

Knicks Have Trade Interest In Darren Collison

Apr 23, 2016 10:42 AM

The New York Knicks have interest in trading for Darren Collison.

Collison is scheduled to make $5.2 million next season with the Sacramento Kings.

It is unclear if the Knicks have the sufficient trade assets to make a deal with the Kings for Collison.

The Knicks previously had interest in trading for Jeff Teague.

Carmelo Anthony Skips Phil Jackson's Triangle Workshop

Apr 22, 2016 11:51 AM

Carmelo Anthony was not one of the 10 New York Knicks who attended Phil Jackson's triangle workshop held Tuesday and Wednesday.

The film and oncourt demonstration sessions were a season review of the same concepts that have already been taught and nothing new.

Attendees were rookies Kristaps Porzingis and Jerian Grant, second-year men Cleanthony Early and Langston Galloway and rehabbing newcomer point guard Tony Wroten.

Veterans Sasha Vujacic, Jose Calderon, free-agent-to-be Kevin Seraphin, Robin Lopez and Kyle O’Quinn.

Anthony is said to be getting therapy for his surgically repaired left knee and is already an astute practitioner of the offense. Anthony played against it while with the Denver Nuggets and also reviewed game films of the Bulls' teams that ran it.

Knicks Only Currently Considering Kurt Rambis, David Blatt

Apr 20, 2016 9:02 PM

The New York Knicks' head coaching search is currently focused on David Blatt and Kurt Rambis.

Phil Jackson did not reach out to Tom Thibodeau before he agreed to accept the Minnesota Timberwolves' job.

Jackson did talk to Luke Walton but it is believed to have been a broad conversation.

Rambis took over on an interim basis for the fired Derek Fisher on Feb. 8.

Blatt is a known quantity to Knicks general manager Steve Mills, who played with him at Princeton.

Phil Jackson, Kurt Rambis To Meet With Knicks' Players To Study Triangle Offense

Apr 19, 2016 11:54 AM

Phil Jackson will meet with a few players on the New York Knicks to go over the triangle offense. Kurt Rambis will also join him for the meetings.

Jackson remains as committed as ever to running the triangle and would like Rambis to remain as head coach.

Jackson has spoken with Luke Walton about the job and he also has interest in David Blatt. The next coach he hires will likely have to agree to run the system.

Derek Fisher was fired as head coach midseason and has subsequently received criticism for not developing the concepts of the triangle in the offseason.

Luke Walton: I'm Not Going To Rush Into Head Coaching Job

Apr 19, 2016 10:57 AM

Luke Walton confirmed he spoke with Phil Jackson but said it wasn't a job interview about the New York Knicks' head coaching vacancy.

The Golden State Warriors haven't given the Knicks permission for a formal interview of Walton.

"No. I talked to Phil, but I always talk to Phil. He’s a mentor of mine," said Walton.

"There was no job interview whatsoever. It was just a conversation which is not that rare for Phil and I to have."

Walton says his mindset is focused on the Warriors' playoff run.

"Honestly, my mindset is mainly with these playoffs that we’re in right now," said Walton.

"I know the way this works you can’t just tell everybody I’m not going to interview anywhere until the end of the playoffs, because most coaches have hired by then.

"So I’m very comfortable and I love where I’m at right now. I love coming to work every day.

"I also do want to be a head coach some day, whether that’s next year or the year after that. I’m going to pursue those opportunities. But knowing while I’m doing that, that I love my job here. So I’m not going to rush off into anything else."

Luke Walton Received Interest From Knicks, Nets

Apr 17, 2016 8:33 PM

Luke Walton has already interviewed with at least the New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets.

Walton withdrew his name from consideration from the Nets' job though they've now hired Kenny Atkinson.

Phil Jackson spoke with Walton in a phone interview.

The Golden State Warriors have granted permission for other teams to interview Walton provided it doesn't interfere with their playoff run.

Walton could decide to remain with the Warriors for at least another season.

“It’s going to be a long, deliberate process,’’ the source said.

Walton is considered a long shot to want to accept the Knicks' job, but he is considering it due to the "uniqueness" of working with Jackson.

Jackson insisted on Thursday he still wanted to run a triangle-based system offense next season.

Kurt Rambis remains a candidate for the job.

Frank Isola reports Walton told Jackson he's not currently interested in the Knicks' job.

Carmelo Anthony Questions Whether His Idea Of Success Aligns With Knicks' Regime

Apr 14, 2016 10:05 PM

During his exit interview, Carmelo Anthony was asked if he'll remain with the New York Knicks next season.

“As of right now, I’ll be here,’’ Anthony said. “No conversation has taken place as far as me leaving or wanting to leave. I think everybody knows how I feel about being here. Nobody should question that. It’s just a matter of how we get better and move forward and take advantage of this window that I have. That’s the main question. How can we take advantage of this window and situation we have in front of us."

Anthony was also asked if he's ever envision leaving the Knicks for a winner.

“I think about it,’’ Anthony said when asked if he’s ever envisioned leaving New York for a winner. “The only thing I think about is winning more — whether it’s here or somewhere else. That’s the only thing I think about. I haven’t thought about putting myself on another team. My thought process is how can I win and make this situation better. What can we all do to make this situation better?’’

Phil Jackson said there was no talk of Anthony wanting out during the exit meeting or during their March dinner in Denver.

“The fact is he wants to stay here,’’ Jackson said. “He wants to communicate and he wants to stay here.”

Anthony owns a complete no-trade clause.

Anthony has given enough hints that he could ask for a trade if the Knicks are unsuccessful in free agency.

“I haven’t put a timetable on any of that,’’ Anthony said.

For the first time, Anthony publicly raised the question whether the regime is more focused on making the playoffs than winning a title.

“What’s successful for us,’’ Anthony said. “That’s the question you have to ask ourselves as a whole organization. Not just winning another 15 games like we did this year and playing for the eighth seed. Is that success? Or is being a top seed in the Eastern Conference, a top team in the NBA? Winning a championship is always the ultimate success. We have to put things in perspective. What’s success mean to this organization? A championship for me is always the ultimate success — not us slotting in and barely getting into the eighth seed. That’s not success for me. Having prominence in the postseson. That’s success.’’

Tom Thibodeau Believed To Be Carmelo Anthony's Choice For Knicks' Coach

Apr 14, 2016 1:25 AM

Carmelo Anthony and James Dolan remain very close as the New York Knicks enter an offseason in which his future with the team is uncertain.

Anthony's influence over Dolan may help determine who becomes the Knicks' head coach.

Phil Jackson wants Kurt Rambis to return as head coach.

Anthony has yet to give Rambis an endorsement and he has said he'd like to have his voice heard in the offseason.

The preferred choice of Anthony is Tom Thibodeau, according to a source close to him. Jackson seems to have no interest in speaking to Thibodeau.
