Jeanie Buss: Phil Jackson Won't Leave Knicks To Join Lakers

May 31, 2016 10:42 AM

Jeanie Buss confirmed Phil Jackson won't be leaving the New York Knicks to join the Los Angeles Lakers.

Jackson reportedly has an opt-out clause after the 16-17 season.

"No. To visit, yes ... but in terms of basketball, he's committed to New York for many years," Buss said Monday on ESPN Radio's Beadle and Shelburne Show. "He's building something there. He has a mission, he's on that journey to get the team back to where he believes it can be and it will be. He's a former Knick ... he loves New York, he loves the fans, he wants to make them proud.

"In terms of the Lakers, we have a front office. They're putting together a team ... they have a vision. I'm excited to see what the future holds for us. So, to answer your question ... no, there's no plans for Phil to come back here."

Knicks To Hire Jeff Hornacek As Head Coach

May 18, 2016 10:15 PM

Jeff Hornacek has been offered the New York Knicks' head coaching job and the two sides are working on a contract.

Hornacek emerged as a candidate late in the Knicks' search after Phil Jackson appeared to prefer to retain Kurt Rambis.

Hornacek was fired by the Phoenix Suns in February after the team underwent significant roster turnover. Hornacek was also a candidate to replace Luke Walton as an assistant coach with the Golden State Warriors.

Beyond Rambis, the Knicks also considered David Blatt and Frank Vogel. The Knicks hadn't contacted Hornacek about the opportunity until they were already three weeks into the process.

Mike Fratello Interested In Knicks' Job

May 13, 2016 1:15 PM

Mike Fratello said he would like the New York Knicks' head coaching job.

Fratello last was a head coach in 2006 with the Memphis Grizzlies and has since been in broadcasting.

“I just want one more big headache. How about that?” Fratello said, adding all the top teams used triangle principles, so he would, too. “San Antonio does it. Golden State has incorporated it. There’s a number of teams that have parts of the triangle that they use. They just don’t use the same wording as Phil and as his great assistant, Tex Winter, did over the years. So you can find a place for it in your offense.”
