Phil Jackson Regrets Not Trading For Jae Crowder In Tyson Chandler Trade

Aug 26, 2016 11:34 AM

Phil Jackson said his biggest mistake since taking over the New York Knicks was not taking Jae Crowder in the Tyson Chandler trade with the Dallas Mavericks.

Crowder emerged as one of the NBA's best defensive players since his trade to the Boston Celtics.

"One of the first deals I engineered when I came back to New York was to trade Tyson Chandler and Raymond Felton to Dallas for Shane Larkin, Jose Calderon, Wayne Ellington, Samuel Dalembert, plus a second-round pick that the Mavs owed to the Celtics," said Jackson. "In talking with (Dallas), I was given the option of taking that pick or else taking Jae Crowder. I liked Crowder but I thought he wouldn’t get much of a chance to play behind Carmelo, so I took the pick which turned out to be Cleanthony Early. While Cleanthony has missed lots of time in the past two seasons with us, he still has the potential to be a valuable player. Even so, I should have taken Crowder.

“Anyway, for all of us, making mistakes are part of the learning process."

Derrick Rose: You'll See A More Mature Player This Season

Aug 23, 2016 11:41 AM

Derrick Rose averaged 19.9 points on 51.4 percent shooting after the All-Star break last season.

Rose was relatively healthy last season, playing in 66 games.

“Now, with the No. 25, I think you’ll see a more mature player,” Rose said. “You’ll see the player that you saw toward the end of last year. More under control type of game, and I got a lot more options now this year. That No. 1 will always be engraved in me, and it’s not going anywhere. Twenty-five is just a new step, and a new step in the right direction.”

Rose is excited for his fresh start with the New York Knicks.

“I feel like I’m not done,” Rose said. “It’s a new start. I feel rejuvenated, and when you put all that together, when I step on the floor, I really don’t know what to expect. What I’m doing right now is just preparing myself for something big. I think we have a chance to win every game, and in the league, that’s rare. ”

Derrick Rose Stands By Super Team Comment

Aug 18, 2016 1:26 PM

Derrick Rose expanded on his comments from a few weeks ago saying the New York Knicks were in the same "Super Team" class as the Golden State Warriors.

Many dismissed Rose's assertion as the Knicks will have to compete to make the playoffs in the Eastern Conference.

"I still believe that,” Rose said. “Like I said, with that Super Team term, you have to be very careful, I guess, if you’re in the United States. But I feel like if you’re in any team in the NBA -- it don’t have to be the NBA, it could be the college level, high school level -- you should believe in yourself and have the confidence in yourself that you’re playing on a super team anywhere. So I have a lot of confidence, and I’m not taking that back."

Rose is ready to share the ball with the Knicks.

“We have more options on this team. With the Bulls, we had more options too but the offense really went through me and Jimmy [Butler],” Rose said. “With the Knicks, we have [Kristaps Porzingis], we have [Carmelo Anthony], we have [Joakim Noah] rolling to the rim. We’ve got Courtney [Lee].”

Kristaps Porzingis Working On Improving Post Game

Aug 5, 2016 8:50 AM

Kristaps Porzingis has been working hard on his post game this summer.

“Everybody wants to see me play better in the post, that’s one thing that’s going to help us in the triangle so I’m adding moves to my post game,” said Porzingis.

“I’m really working on staying low [on drives]. I’m working on my strength, especially my legs. That’s going to help me defensively as well.”

Porzingis has worked out with Brandon Jennings, Derrick Rose and Sasha Vujacic in Los Angeles this offseason.

“As I grow as a player we’ll be better as a team,” he said. “And I realize that and I know how much better I have to get to help the team win.”
