Knicks Not Interested In Ryan Anderson For Carmelo Anthony Trade With Rockets

Jun 30, 2017 9:15 PM

The Houston Rockets approached the New York Knicks about a trade of Ryan Anderson for Carmelo Anthony.

Anthony has a no-trade clause but the presence of Chris Paul with the Rockets could compel him to waive it for that opportunity.

Teams were recently seeking two first round picks from the Rockets in exchange for Anderson, who is on one of the NBA's least attractive contracts.

Anthony has interest in a buyout from the Knicks though they have shown no interest in entertaining discussions.

Steve Mills Attempting To Become Knicks' President

Jun 30, 2017 7:17 PM

Steve Mills is trying to convince James Dolan to promote him to president of basketball operations of the New York Knicks.

With the exception of a four-year hiatus, Mills has worked for Madison Square Garden in a variety of roles since 1999.

Mills is part of Dolan's inner circle and he'd like the Knicks to hire a GM to work under him.

David Griffin has received interest from the Knicks and if he's hired, Mills would likely be elevated to president. Mills would be tasked with the business, budget and politics of the team while leaving Griffin to construct the Knicks' roster.

“A buffer between Dolan and the GM,” a source described the arrangement.

Knicks Unlikely To Re-Sign Derrick Rose

Jun 30, 2017 5:21 PM

The New York Knicks are unlikely to re-sign Derrick Rose in free agency.

Rose's season ended with another torn meniscus and that followed inconsistent play. The Knicks also drafted Frank Ntilikina to be their point guard of the future.

Asked Friday about re-signing Rose, Jeff Hornacek punted the subject.

“That’s management. I haven’t been in any of the discussions with free agency stuff,” he said. “So they kind of control that and look at the roster and figure it out.”

New York traded for Rose last June from the Chicago Bulls..

Knicks Waive Maurice Ndour

Jun 30, 2017 2:15 PM

The New York Knicks have waived Maurice Ndour.

Ndour averaged 3.1 points and 2.0 rebounds in 10.4 minutes per game for the Knicks during the 16-17 season.

Ndour went undrafted in 2015 out of Ohio and played for Real Madrid in 15-16.

The move creates more cap space for the Knicks.

Knicks Unlikely To Request Permission To Speak With Masai Ujiri

Jun 30, 2017 1:11 AM

The New York Knicks are not expected to request permission from the Toronto Raptors to speak with Masai Ujiri.

Ujiri recently signed an extension with the Raptors and the Knicks would likely need to send draft and cash compensation to Toronto.

Ujiri was reportedly a preferred candidate of the Knicks. Ujiri successfully negotiated trades against the Knicks involving Carmelo Anthony and Andrea Bargnani.

The Raptors hired Ujiri away from the Nuggets in 2013.

New York is searching for a replacement for Phil Jackson.

Knicks To Interview David Griffin

Jun 29, 2017 10:07 PM

The New York Knicks will interview David Griffin to run their front office.

Griffin and the Cleveland Cavaliers parted ways shortly after The Finals. Griffin was recommended by Jerry West, who remains close to Tim Leiweke. The expectation, however, is that Leiweke and Steve Mills are in no rush to fill the position.

Phil Jackson was let go as president of basketball operations of the Knicks this week.

Griffin began his career with the Phoenix Suns and then joined the Cavaliers in 2014. Griffin was elevated to general manager in 2014.

John Calipari Reached Out To Knicks About President Opening

Jun 29, 2017 7:16 PM

John Calipari reached out to the New York Knicks to express interest in their president of basketball operations job.

The Knicks, however, do not have interest in Calipari at this time. Calipari presumably would want the dual role of head coach and president.

Calipari has been at Kentucky since 2009. Calipari was briefly in the NBA in the 1990s with the Nets and has been connected to a number of openings in recent seasons. Calipari appears to have interest in returning to the NBA, at least at some point before he retires.

With more former players currently in the NBA than any other college coach, Calipari would seem to be a natural fit for a big market franchise like the Knicks in terms of free agent recruitment.

Phil Jackson Was Willing To Meet With Frank Isola If His 'Tweets And Stories Improve'

Jun 29, 2017 3:46 PM

When Phil Jackson was introduced as president of basketball operations for the New York Knicks in 2014, he promised to change MSG's culture towards the media.

But none of the New York Daily News' six media members in attendance were called upon to ask Jackson a question. Frank Isola has most notably had a contentious relationship with James Dolan and the Knicks.

"Within days Jackson apologized in an email to me for being "left out" and offered to meet privately," writes Isola. "He put that meeting off for several months and after I contacted Jackson midway through his first full season he replied that he'd be willing to meet with me but only when my 'tweets and stories improve.'"

Isola continued to be critical of the Knicks while Jackson only granted exclusive interviews to select media outlets.

Knicks Identify Sam Presti As Possible Candidate

Jun 29, 2017 12:43 PM

The New York Knicks are internally considering Sam Presti for their general manager vacancy.

The Oklahoma City Thunder would likely require compensation from the Knicks for allowing Presti out of his contract.

Presti became general manager of the Seattle SuperSonics in 2007.

While Presti has an excellent track record in the draft, the Thunder struggled to build out an adequate supporting cast around Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook.
