Sonics Extend Qualifing Offers To Radmanovic, Murray, Evans, Wilkins

Jun 30, 2005 2:00 PM

The Seattle Supersonics extended qualifing offers to Vladimir Radmanovic, Ronald Murray, Reggie Evans and Damien Wilkins on Tuesday.

The small forward Radmanovic has put his Seattle house up for sale and there is much speculation he will go for a bigger contract elsewhere.

Ronald "Flip" Murray has seen very little time playing behind shooting guard Ray Allen, however, can be explosive in the few minutes he does play.

Reggie Evans had a breakthrough year as the Sonics power forward with tough defense and tenacious rebounding.

The youngster Damien Wilkins has shown much promise and had some very big games late in the season filling in for the injured Radmanovic and Rashard Lewis.

Former Sonic/Hornet Gill 1-0 With 1 KO

Jun 27, 2005 6:16 PM

Kendall Gill, 37, who spent many seasons in the NBA playing for teams like the Seattle Supersonics and the Charlotte Hornets won his debut boxing match with a knockout in 1-minute, 58-seconds at the Aragon Ballroom.

The 5-foot-10-inch Trevor Biley was no match for the 6-foot5-inch inch Gill.

"I feel great," the 37-year-old NBA veteran and former Illini star said. His trainers told him to take it easy early.

"But I couldn't resist," Gill said. "I saw him hurting."

"I want to fight one more time and then go back to the NBA," Gill said, adding that he'll return to boxing after his 15th season. "I'm a very young 37."

Jun 24, 2005 10:58 PM

On the top of Lebron?s list of Cavalier potential pick-ups are: Phoenix?s Joe Johnson, Milwaukee?s Michael Redd, Seattle?s Ray Allen, Washington?s Larry Hughes and Chicago's Eddy Curry, all shooting guards with the exception of the Bulls big man.  All big names in the 2005 free agent market, with each player demanding a max contract or close to it.

Johnson will not be available because the Suns are certain to resign the shooting guard with the departure of Quentin Richardson.

Sonics Sign GM Rick Sund To Multi-Year Extension

Jun 22, 2005 4:36 PM

The Seattle SuperSonics today signed General Manager Rick Sund to a multi-year contract extension, Sonics & Storm President and CEO Wally Walker announced.

?Rick has done excellent work as our general manager over the past four years, and we?re very pleased he?ll be continuing in his role,? said Walker. ?Rick does a superb job of managing our day-to-day basketball operations, a little-recognized, but critical component of his job.?

Sund, 54, possesses more than 30 years of front-office experience in the NBA. In the last four years that he?s served as Sonics general manager, the team has compiled a 174-154 (.530) record and has qualified for the postseason twice. During the 2004-05 season, the Sonics won the NBA?s inaugural Northwest Division Championship and advanced to the Western Conference Semifinals after eliminating Sacramento in the First Round, four games to one.

?I believe that with our mixture of veteran players and young talent, there is a very bright future for the Sonics,? said Sund. ?There are plenty of challenges ahead, but I greatly look forward to working with Wally, Nate and Howard Schultz to make this team better.?

Blazers May Offer McMillan Twice As Much As Seattle

Jun 21, 2005 1:45 PM

Sonic ownership is offering McMillan, who has been a player, assistant coach or head coach in Seattle the past 17 years, a multiyear deal at between $4 million and $4.5 million per year.

Blazer owner Paul Allen apparently is willing to go as high as $8 million to $9 million a year to get McMillan.

Allen, who is said to have recently balked at giving $8 million to Flip Saunders, may now want to pass on the chance to steal the coach of the rival Sonics.

The Blazers can have no contact with McMillan or his representative, Lonnie Cooper, until after June 30, when McMillan?s contract is up.

?Nate doesn?t want to leave Seattle, but he is insulted by the offer so far,? says an NBA insider close to the situation. ?It?s likely he will stay with Seattle, but he feels he?s getting low-balled. He?ll probably still sign with the Sonics (before June 30), but if he waits to talk to Portland, it?s not impossible he would wind up coaching there.?

If McMillan re-signs with Seattle, the likely scenario would be for the Blazers to hire Phoenix assistant coach Marc Iavaroni.
